Yup, a Glengarry Glen Ross thread. Back in 1992, a film came out, one of the best of the 90s. Well, Al Pacino got the nomination for Best Supporting Actor in that year. Am I the only one who feels like Jack Lemmon should have gotten at least the nomination? I thought he was alot better than Pacino in this flick.

Pacino was solid, but Lemmon owned that whole picture. His performance was the most convincing, sincere, emotional, and heartwrenching of the bunch.

I agree, young bankholdup, I agree. Lemmon gave probably the best supporting performance of that whole year. An amazing role, for a great film.

IMDB seems to register Lemmon as the MAIN actor of the flick...

I'm one of those people that think that there isn't really a main character in ensemble cast films: Magnolia, Glengarry Glen Ross, The Usual Suspects.

Jack Lemmon should've gotten a Best Actor Nomination. He was fantastic in GGR.

Whatever nom he should've gotten, Lemmon should ahve won. He was just amazing, his best performance of a long career. Christ, everyone in GGR was amazing.

I definitely think that Lemmon should have received a BEST ACTOR nomination (and win!) that year, despite the ensemble-equals-supporting rule.

I too think consider Lemmon's performance a lead one, and I too think it's the best leading actor performance of that year (better than Denzel in Malcolm X, which I consider his single best performance). Al Pacino, like all of the truly magnificant cast, is great and steals each and every scene he's in, but Jack Lemmon's performance is the far superior one. His lack of even a nomination is one of the Academy's bigger mistakes.

If only they could give one collectively to the whole cast of GGR.

I've seen this movie over 40 times and I just love it. Notice under my name to the left here ;-)

Lemmon was THE man in this movie, but what a performance by everyone. I've always been a fan of Ed Harris and IMHO, he just really kicked it up another notch in this one. Even though his screen time was short, Alec Baldwin also just blew me away.

I love Al Pacino. He's my favorite living actor, but I have to say that Lemmon should've won Best Supporting for the year. His character truly came allive, and I'm amazed that as scum-baggy as all the characters in this film were (and I own it), only Lemmon was able to make his sympathetic. I don't think he should've bee nominated for lead actor though, because he wasn't the lead actor. The film didn't revolve around him--this was an ensemble film of which he played a part.

Agreed. I was pretty dumbound too when he wasn't nominated that year. I couldn't understand the Academy's rationale too. Pacino won the Best Actor that year - the least they should have done is nominate Jack in place of Pacino as the Best Supporting Actor.
