Well, this movie actually has SOME promise of being a rather entertaining movie.
We have Bill Murray as the voice of Garfield.
Breckin Meyer as Jon, Garfield's owner(the main dude in Road Trip)
THe lovely Jennifer Love Hugetits as Garfield's vet.
And get this, we got Stephen Tobolowsky (played Lenny in Memento) as the mean dog catcher.
Now, the cast seems pretty solid. Hopefully, it will be better than the embarrassing Scobby Doo.
I have always liked Garfield as a kid. I like how he is just a fat, lazy, smart ass cat. I think Bill Murray should have some funny lines in this movie.
I can see that they are going with a young cast. Since in the cartoon/comic strips Jon, was a middle aged man. I bet Jon will be like a college kid in this one since breckin meyer is playing the role.
Also, Garfield will be done in CGI and I think Odie will too.
I believe the summary consists of Odie getting taken away to the pound by the dog catcher and Garfield feels guilty and goes off to save him...and hopefully hilarity insues.

Here is the offical "premise" from upcomingmovies.com:
Premise: This film depicts the comic adventures of an overweight orange tabby cat, Garfield (voiced by Bill Murray), who competes with a dog named Odie for the affection and attention of their human master, Jon Arbuckle (Meyer), when Odie is introduced into their home much to Garfield's disgust. When Odie is kidnapped by a mean dog trainer, however, Garfield feels responsible, so he gets off his favorite spot and gets into action to rescue his fellow pet... (Jennifer Love Hewitt plays Liz, Garfield's veterinarian and romantic interest; Cannon plays a "city mouse" who helps Garfield in his search)
Here's how 20th Century Fox puts it:
"He's cynical, lazy and, literally, a fat cat. Now, Garfield, America's favorite feline, is about to become a major motion picture star, in a film with broad-audience appeal. The live action / CGI picture is adapted from the syndicated cartoon strip read in 2600 newspapers by 260 million readers around the globe. In his film debut, Garfield's owner, Jon, takes in sweet but dimwitted pooch Odie, turning Garfield's perfect world upside down. Now, Garfield wants only one thing: Odie out of his home and life! But when the hapless pup disappears and is kidnapped by a nasty dog trainer, Garfield, maybe for the first time in his life, feels responsible. Pulling himself away from the TV, Garfield springs into action."
I believe this has a May 14th, 2004 release date set.

The movie seems like it'll be good, but I just can't help but feel Meyer is miscast. Jon's always been an older guy, and having been raised by the cartoon, can't help but think someone like Kevin Spacey or Jeff Daniels would be better

Holy shit! Kevin Spacey would be classic! Man, what a great idea.
I can just picture it...Spacey coming home from a hard days work complaining about his job, while the CGI Garfield is making wise cracks at him. That would be too funny.
Yeah, I definitely know what you mean. I hope Meyer doesnt fuck things up. Oh well, at least they didnt cast Freddie Prince Jr.

this could turn out to be an okay fun family film, breckin meyer is a good actor and i dig him, billy murray is awesome of course, hewitt being cast isnt good however, hate her bigtime, she can't act and even her looks are overrated.
Breckin Meyer is a huge bore, but the casting of Bill Murray has guaranteed them I'll watch it.

I love cheetos
Anyways, yea, a Garfield movie would be pretty good. Maybe we can see that damn Yody dog finally get what's comin to him, and get split up into little puppy chunks.

They should just take a real cat as Garfield, and just have his thoughts being heard. Bill Murray is also a great choice for the fiesty feline!
MEOWZA!
That's right I said it.

Maybe I'm the only one around here who absolutely hates the idea of a GARFIELD movie. Breckin Meyer is miscast as the nerdy Jon, I loathe Ms Jennifer "Anorexia" Hewitt, and Peter Hewitt's filmography is pretty horrible. I loved GARFIELD as a kid (and still do!) but I don't wanna see my childhood memories raped by a bunch of untalented filmmakers.

RenHoek, I definitely hear where you are coming from. There is SOME promise though, I believe that Jim Davis(the creator and writer of the original series/cartoon) is overlooking the movie...so hopefully things work out.
I will most likely see it though. Gotta love Murray!

Garfield is something that should have never been made into a live-action movie.
And if it did...well, the cast is miscast. It's been said before, Breckin Meyer and Jennifer Love Hewitt are too young.
I've always pictured Linda Fiorentino playing Liz, the Vet.
And Bill Murray voicing Garfield..the cartoon was so much better. When I'll be watching this movie, I will just be thinking about that cartoon. Remember "Garfield and Friends."
That was a good cartoon.

And NOT, as you said, HIM? (http://us.imdb.com/Name?Tobolowsky,+Stephen)

;)
Stephen played Sammy Jenkins in Memento.
This being said, I'd LOVE to see an animantion movie of Garfield, as i'm a big fan of it, but I LOATHE the idea of a real action movie, even more with that horrendous cast: Breckin Meyer? JLH?
