Who should play Lara Croft in the next Tomb Raider movie(s)

The second Tomb Raider movie, Cradle of Life , will be out in a few days with Angelina Jolie heading for the second time into playing the role of adveturer Lara Croft. I read once that she signed the contract for playing Ms. Croft in the first three films. IF she doesn’t come back for the third film who you think would be the one to be Lara Croft?

IMO, and after watching the hugely enjoyable Italian Job I’d go for Charlize Theron. She physically fit, she’s sexy and she kicked major ass in various movies. Her lips fit for Lara’s too! ;) :p

One final note: please if you don't like the Tomb Raider movies or games try not to turn this thread into a bashing-field. This thread is about WHO you think should play the role. It is not about your thoughts -or mine- about the movie(s) or the game(s) :)

Jedi, I agree with you about Charlize Theron. She would be a great Lara Croft. Maybe Rebecca Romijn Stamos could work too.

I think if Jolie's out, they shouldn't do any more TR movies. There just isn't an adequate replacement. I know I wouldn't see it without her.

I'd see it if it was good, but I'd be disappointed. Angelina Jolie is the perfect Lara Croft. She's the only good thing in the TOMB RAIDER flicks, and she's great.

I loved the 1st TR but if Jolie doesn't want to return they should cancel the movie. The movies are suffering as they are, if Jolie left it would compltely fall apart.

Yeah I agree Stamos would make a good Lara but she isn't a good actress IMO. Though the part isn't Shakespeare but at least she doesn't have to look like "just" another beauty in shorts and boots jumping around.

What about Catherine Zeta-Jones? I heard she was one of the very earlier choices for the role.

Oooooohhh.... Charlize Theron is FAR MORE sexier than Angelina Jolie. Ditto with Rebecca Romijn Stamos. I think Angelina Jolie is overrated. Tomb Raider sucks. She sucks in them. This upcoming sequal looks ok but I'm not very excited about it. Jolie does seem from the trailer to be having for fun this time than in the last one where she was every bit as dull as the movie itself. So we'll see.

BTW, the only performances that Jolie has ever given that I thought she was really good was in Girl Interrupted, The Bone Collector and Life or Something Like It. Other than those three I think she sucked in everything else she's done.

Jolie was born for this role. I can't imagine any other actress instead of her.

Hey Trinity! You gave me a hard time checking for "curvaceous" in the dictionary :p but no she isn't! I believe she'd be a good choice: she's also physically fit, she's sexy and she can have this look of bitchness on her face which is exactly what Lara Croft is all about.

Of course, I meant curvaceous as a positive thing, but Jolie has a very lean figure so for Catherine to play her Lara now would be quite a departure. God knows there's nothing I love more than watching Zeta play a bitch, but I really woudn't want her to do it. Wouldn't do her career any good in the long run. And though TR is fun, I want Jolie to get get out of it asap, and get back to the kind of movies she made at the beginning of her career.

I agree that Angelina Jolie is a decent Tomb Raider, and if she was out I think the movies should stop. Catherine Zeta Jones would be good in the role, but she's too much of a big star now, and she doesn't feel really right for it now. Maybe back in her 'The Phantom' days. Other Brit actresses that come to mind are Keira Knightley and Rosamund Pike, but they are too young, or too elegant for the role, and a bit too thin. And are nowhere near as well endowed as Croft would have to be. I guess I would just like to see these actresses kick ass in somewhat sexy attire.

And I love Zeta, y'all know I do, but...Angelina IS Lara. It's her turf. It's her part. I couldn't imagine anyone else in it now -- so I really hope TR3, if it ever gets done, will be a fantastic movie, because Jolie deserves a great flick as Lara Croft.

I second that. Jolie is perfect as Lara. The whole Tomb Raider thing has great potential. The first film was "okay" fun and I hope the second will be better. The producers, having Angelina with them, are putting their hands on a mine of gold but apparently they are too lazy to trust the appeal of the franchise and give it all it needs.

Wasn't Rhona Mitra the original model for Lara Croft? Anyway, what about Kate Beckinsale? She's beautiful, sexy, British and, judging from the Underworld previews, can kick some serious arse. Sound familiar? Even though I love Angelina Jolie, I think that Kate would've been just as good.
