it's the most awful crap i've ever seen

it's NOT scary
the gore is laughable, maybe cos i've got a good stomach but some of it is just sooo cheap, nasty and tacky.

one that you shouldn't buy but maybe watch if someone you know rents it

It's an amazing movie. Totally balls to the wall, could not give a fuck film-making courtesy of the genius that is Takashi Miike (Audition, Dead Or Alive, Fudoh etc). There's a thread in the Foreign Horror Movie forum that contains mucho info about this gem. The guys from the BBFC in the UK almost had a shitty fit when they saw this (they cut over three minutes out of it). I'm getting the uncut version in about a weeks time. The version I saw was the Hong Kong disc which is missing an amazing twenty+ minutes.

There is an intelligent movie beneath all the gore here. It's an incredible movie, and I guess that Blockbuster won't have it. If they do, well, go rent it.

And the Hongkong DVD misses 13 minutes of violence. Thankfully(?) the Finnish DVD is uncut. Too bad it doesn't have english subtitles...

I've seen the uncut version. I have to say I was more disturbed by another of Miikes films, fudoh: the new generation. The violence in Ichi is so over the top that it is more likely than not you will just laugh at it. Still can't see blockbuster in the usa stocking it though.

Actually...Fudoh didn't disturb me either. Both movies were fucking amazing but neither really disturbed. Now...Visitor Q and Audition...whole new ballpark. Very fucking disturbing both.

I am not a really big fan of Audition, I watched it on IFC and didn't really like it as much as others did.

Ah yes but the plot of Audition pulls a mulholland drive on you- moving from one plotline to another completely different one in the latter stages of the film. Audition is a film that you will either love or hate, but I think it is worth the price of the rental to find out which one you are.

I prefer the stylish simplicity of the UK cover over both of the others. It's very cool indeed.
