I have become a Jeunet fan of recent. Amelie just blew me away with its sometimes unsettling images mixed with a really fun storyline. Jeunet may have done Alien4 (which I think was actually well shot but wasnt good) but at least he returned with a French gem. I am really interested in his earlier work. I just recently watched Delicatessin which was a really odd Sci-Fi flick that was pretty cool. City of the Lost Children is next for me.
What do you guys think about him? Please add comments on what you thought about Alien 4 and why you think he may have did that. I always like dicussing how he went from Alien 4 to Amelie.

He probably wanted to test the waters, so to speak, and try to make a name for himself in hollywood. It looked like it didn't work, so that is why i think he went back to france to make amelie (which i still haven't seen yet!).

DELICATESSEN and CITY OF LOST CHILDREN are nice flicks. Poetic, a bit odd, but inspiring. In my opinion, they're the best of Jeunet's work. AMELIE...overrated. Very overrated. Too boring, too mushy, too talky, too "little girl's dream of everyone happy".

I didn't like Amelie, either. Too cute. Delicatessen and The City of Lost Children I liked a little better, they are wonderful to look at, especially the latter. However I felt that they were too grim and misanthropic (quite a contrast to Amelie!), and their point rather unclear.
BTW, currently Jeunet is making a new movie with Audrey Tautou.

I thought Amelie was a beautiful film. I am actually surprised that I liked it because it was a fairly slow pace, but it was engaging non-the-less.
