In Honor of "Toby's" Thread on Spanish horror I thought id post my review....

Watched this bad boy on DVD and wow. Yet another great Spanish Horror Film (Thesis, Aftermath, Cronos etc)

Beautifully shot, the cinematography is well controlled and provides a real atmosphere of tension. The music is terrific with alot of brief piano notes that work perfectly with whats unfolding onscreen.

The acting all round is superb with the players providing memorable charecters that are distinct and individual. All the roles serve a purpose and balance out this melancholy, somber tale.

The script allows the audience to think and serves the facts in an intelligent way that entices us to truly question what we are seeing and kept me constantly engaged.

With more than a few genuinely creepy moments and a director that is not afraid to show us darker images than many would dare. Nameless delivers on all fronts story, cinematography and acting confidently directed to deliver a truly memorable piece of macarbe celluloid.

Highly recommended.

Well, i wouldn't rate it as high as you, but still was a breakthrough film in Spain. It was probably the first GOOD horror film we made, and it started in some way the path for other fantastic films to come, like Darkness (which is great), Second Name (which isn't), etc...

What i didn't like was the continous inserts of... nothing, just blur, to make you jump in the sit because of its sudden and loud sound. That was IMO a cheap trick, and it was used too often without motive. I'd liked it better without them, cause the movie itself is very good.

7/10

The film started VERY well, but I thought that the 3rd act didn't deliver as well as I hoped it would. Still, a good film and quite tense every once in a while. I absolutely loved the consept of the film.

7/10.

This movie had one of the most chilling, thought provoking endings i've seen in a long time. I found myself thinking about the ending and it's implications for days. The atmosphere throughout was full of creeping dread and succeeded in keeping me on edge pretty much constantly. A fantastic movie. Director Jaume Balaguero's next movie Darkness is also pretty interesting but it fails to induce anything like the same degree of anxiety as his feature debut. I'd give this 4/5 and recommend it to anyone who likes their horror with a cerebral edge.

The ending was terrible, and the daughter couldn't act. But overall, it was a good movie. Just a bad ending.

Specifically what was it you hated about the ending? I thought it was stunningly bleak and nasty and it had me thinking for days afterwards.

The ending felt too rushed. They built up to so much, and then bam, it's over in a second. Very anticlimatic. 2/3 of the movie was good; 1/3 (the end) was just bad (and disappointing).
