View Full Version : Das Experiment - The Magical Melodious Mega Mass Schmoetastic Music Project!!!

Okay, here we go...an idea inspired by Bowieee.
We schmoes are going to simultaneously listen to a randomly selected CD (suggested by schmoes of course) and post our thoughts, feelings and favourite little nuggets as we go.
It'll be a bit nutty, that's for sure...but I'm pretty sure 'twill be a barrel of laughs.
We'll get busy with the specifics later on..but for NOW, two suggestions PER PERSON will suffice.
Don't try to be too obscure, that Hawkwind bootleg aint going to win you any friends smartarse!
Post away folks...

It'll never fly, but I want people to be exposed to the Chieftains' Down the Old Plank Road album, dammit!
The discerning schmoes will NOT be disappointed.

I'll go with:
Spiritualized - Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space
Royksopp - Melody AM

And howay we go...:)
Okay, keep 'em coming folks...I've got a novelty-sized sombrero by my bed, and I'm itching to jot down plenty of suggestions and dip in.
PLEASE do suggest ONLY if you're willing to participate. Otherwise the whole shebang will be a SHAMBLES from the get-go. We've all got to give and take with this one (oooh er).
Come on kids...work that noggin and lets get busy with some musical madness!!!

Ok...i'm game...i'm still not terribly certain that this will work though. Trying to get the schmoes to synchronise will be akin to a blind sheep dog trying to herd a group of blind sheep into a pen. Not that i'm calling BCV a sheep dog. Or the schmoes sheep for that matter. I'm digging a hole.
Here's my choices...
The Jesus & Mary Chain - Darklands
The Cardigans - Long Gone Before Daylight

£1.20 my eye!
You'll be getting a handfull of copper and a kick up the jacksie.
Oy Psycho...next time you call me a DOG I'll 'ave you!
Anyway,
(Old-skool) Pulp - His 'N' Hers
(Lovely Mr) Scott Walker - Scott 2
I never said I wasn't predictable folks.
Anybody wanting to participate, I have no problems UPLOADING and SENDING the full album via E-MAIL (leave it downloading a couple of hours and "Bob's Yer Uncle"!) Otherwise most of the tracks are available on Kazaa at certain times of the day and night.

I'm willing to help out with this. I'm on broadband and providing your ISP doesn't limit the size of the files you can receive via email then sending MP3s ain't a problem to me. I even know how to make damn good quality MP3s myself so if it's an album I own i'lll MP3 the fucker.

I don't think we can get through all 69 love songs JohN Dark but that is a mighty good box set.
As for my choices:
The Black Rider: Tom Waits
and
Berlin: Lou Reed
BadCoverVersion
07-10-2003, 05:58 AM
So far we have...
The Black Rider: Tom Waits
Berlin: Lou Reed (:( ;))
Pulp - His 'N' Hers
Scott Walker - Scott 2
The Magnetic Fields: 69 Love Songs (Pt. 1, 2 or 3? C'mon, we're not that ambitious!?)
Spoon: Girls Can Tell
Tool - Aenima
The Mars Volta - De-Loused In The Comatorium
Pavement - Slanted and Enchanted
Pixies - Doolittle
The Jesus & Mary Chain - Darklands (£1.20...*grumble*)
The Cardigans - Long Gone Before Daylight
Spiritualized - Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space
Royksopp - Melody AM (I have Royksopp badges on my jacket...don't know why!?)
Remember folks...this IS a joint effort...and I've got GREAT BIG WHOPPING plans for this experiment :), hopefully everybody else is just as excited as I am.
Please be thinking about HOW you plan to introduce YOUR selection...a new thread will be opened for each "experiment", so the floor will indeed be YOURS!
Do you fancy composing a short synopsis or tracking down some smashin' photo's? Howzabout some interesting gossip to kick off? Do you want to post lyrics, suggest mood lighting, suitable attire and finger food?
Let's be ambitious...it'll be bloody marvellous.

Havn't got the foggiest what im supposed to do, (must be the drugs kicking in). Anyhows I will suggest my two albums then im sure someone will no doubt enlighten me as to my duties.
Will Young.........From Now On
Rod Stewart......Night On The Town
Is that ok?
:p
Dont shout at me BCV im just joining in but getting confused in the process. (It doesn't take much to confuse me at the mo).
I think we are all a bit predictable though.;) Baaaaaahh.

Basically PrettyInPink.
One suggested album will be selected at random (scribblings on paper and a dip in the sombrero will suffice)...and we shall then set a time and a date in advance. D'you follow...!? So, schmoes will then be required to locate the selected album...whether it be via e-mail, Kazaa, a trip to HMV...or perhaps just a straightforward rifle through a friends collection...or even your OWN if you're mega-lucky.
The chosen SCHMOE (y'know, the one that suggested the album in the first place) will then be required to set up a lovely new thread, all SET for the night of The Magical Melodious Mega Mass Schmoetastic Music Project. They can post anything they like in preparation...an album review, some pictures, lyrics and the rest. Suggestions regarding nibbles and suitable beverages...the CHOICE is theirs.
Okay, so now we're on fire.
Say we set a date for 10pm (GMT), Sunday 13th July...
On Sunday night at 10pm, every participant in Schmoeville will press PLAY on their CD (wind up the gramaphone if yer Grebdron)...get busy with windows media player...whatever it is they plan to do, and we shall all just POST away.
Thoughts, opinions, favourite lyrics, moments, criticisms...all in lovely gorgeous unison...like a ladies synchronised swimming team (except without the wanky hats and nose clips)...it'll be F.U.N.
Hmmm, I hope that clears things up for ya'.
:)

Ok first obstacle is how are we all going to get our schmoey paws on the album thats picked. I think the uploading and email idea is fantastic my caveman ass just has to learn how to do it.
Second obstacle which was the major reason why my "Lets all watch a movie at the same time" thread burned a firey death was finding a time where all of us schmoes can do something in unity. Once those are cleared out of the way this is going to be fun times. I think we should make drinking large amounts of booze while listening a requirement :)

I think the suggestion of Sunday night at 10 pm GMT works well. That translates to 5 pm for the USA East Coasters among us (including me).
edit: and I think I'm sticking with 69 Love Songs, Vol. 1
edit2: Shit. Now I really want to use Les Savy Fav's 3/5. AHHHHHHH! I'm so torn.

It's on Sunday (7/27) at 7pm EST, or 4pm PST for the North American schmoes. That's midnight (12am GMT) in the night from Sunday to Monday (7/28) for all UK schmoes. I hope that makes it clearer :)

Thank the fucking lord, I already own this album and am very, very fond of it. I was praying for this one actually... dreams can come true people.

Shame on you folks who didn't turn up for the first round of our Music Project yesterday. ;) CLICK HERE (http://www.joblo.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=58432) to have a look at all the fun and action Ms. Cover Version, Paul Calf, Mr. Dark and I shared last night.
BCV asked me to choose the album for the next round of "The Project", so I'll make a completely RANDOM pick. Honestly, my eyes are closed and my forefinger is wandering blindly over the list of suggested albums. It's...
THE MARS VOLTA - De-loused in the Comatorium
Uh, well, I can't even comment on that. To be quite frank, I don't know anything about this band. Anyways, I'm most definitely looking forward to give it a collective listen :)
So, it seems like it is notch's turn to set up a suitable date and time, open a new thread, and maybe treat his fellow schmoes with some tidbits of information.
Notch? ;)

Yeah, that's fab stuff!
I don't own the album but I know a Johnny Cash fanatic who will hopefully be so generous to lend me his copy. Again, very cool (blind) pick... definitely looking forward to part 3 of "the project"...
