View Full Version : Your Best buddy wakes from a coma after 19yrs, what movie would you show him

So the true story about a man who woke up from a 19 year coma this week is alive again. Now he went down in 1984, right. So pretend that this is your best friend boy or girl, what movie would you show them to show the change and technology of today.

No sequels or continuations or second parts to movies. You need to show them the first if you do that.

Only 1 movie.

I would show that person Finding Nemo, he'll probably die afterwards, but thats alright. What would you show that person?

1984? I'd show him the Matrix. Total mindfuck.

I'd show him Resident Evil or Jaws 4. Movie-watching just doesn't get any better than that!!

Comedy- Oh, maybe something like, Scary Movie

Drama- Titanic

Horror- Wrong Turn.

It depends on what movies he likes.

Or While You Were Sleeping.

I'd choose Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. He'd be seeing a great movie with great advancements in filmmaking.

Pulp Fiction I'd tell him, "look, your gonna see a lot of movies that have snappy dialogue based on pop culture, scenes shown out of order, and starring John Travolta ...no really, John Travolta. Anyway, you're gonna see a lot of movies like this, but this one started them all. I want you to see this before any of them because it will blow you away the way it did me when I saw it in the theater."

Trainspotter

I'd show him Memento. Waking up after 19yrs in a coma and then watching the ultimate mind fcuk movie ever, ho ho.

I've just been reading about the poor chap...The Sun no less.

The bloke won't let people chat about the present day, and all that has happened in between..he's obviously overcome, and slightly delirious no doubt.

Christ, imagine how that must feel!?

His new-born baby girl is 19...

Anyway,

Trainspotting for me.

Sit him down, and watch a movie from the mid-80's, like Ghostbusters or Back to the Future, then show him a very good recent blockbuster like Spider-Man or Fellowship of the Ring.

Then introduce him to the wonders of things like Seinfeld, Simpsons, and the internet.

Don't show him "Glitter" or he will want to go back to coma again.

28 days later

he would then know what a lucky bugger he is waking up in a pleasant world where everyone loves one another, where there is no crime,no hatred and wham no longer exist.

My best friend from when i had 5 years? I had forgotten him! Who cares about him? I would make him see Requiem for a Dream so he could go back to his coma. He couldn't handle a world full of Big Brother, American Idols, Bjork, Ping, Michael Jackson, Bush, Macauley Culkin, Roseanne and other horrors...

I'd show him MINORITY REPORT and tell him that's the way the world is today. Then I'd set him loose in the nature and watch him fuck around until he understands I'm playing with his stupid little mind.

I would show him either Minority Report, Titanic, or Jurassic Park so he can see the amazing achievements that we have made in filmmaking.

I'm pretty sure showing him Jurassic Park would put him right back into the coma! Now..... THAT'S a mindfuck!

Nachokoolaid

Terminator 2 would be cool to show.

Also, I wouldn't show things like Scary Movie, or anything like that, as someone mentioned, because he wouldn't get the parodies because he was asleep for 19 years, so he's missed a lot.

I'd probably show Jurassic Park. That would be a pretty neat experience. The technology would blow him away. But I have to agree with some others. Why not go straight to the best and show Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring?

What if he doesn't like moives?

Dignan

I'd show him Braveheart, just to win the bet I made him in 83'

Hahaha! Good one Logan!

If my best girlfriend wakes up after 19 years, I's show her the recent installment of a Ron Jeremy flick.

I'd show him 1984.

Only joking, of course.

Perhaps a film like The Fellowship of the Ring, yes, because I'd love to be in the position of someone who wouldn't have the first clue of how any of it was made. You'd be completely oblivious to CGI, and therefor you'd be agast. It's an astonishing 3 hours...A great way to spend a few hours.

Hannibal 21 - Why Citizen Kane? That film would have been around for years before he fell into a coma.

When the real life guy woke up, he said "Mom," "Pepsi," and "Milk." Pepsi must love the free publicity.:)

Maybe we should show him a few remakes, instead. That would help him understand how stories he knew have been moderized.
It might possibly soften the shock of waking up 19 years later.

Id show him Legally Blonde, that would make him want to go back into a Coma.

But honestly depends, if he was a big fan of LotR show him that. Likewise with starwars.

Other than that, Fight Club probably tops the list. Tell him its an historical drama of the early 90's and the world is now run by a secret society entitled Fight Club.

When I read about this, I thought to myself, 'wow, I would freak out if I woke after a 19 years sleep'. I myself am 19 years old, so if it happened to me it'd be like I was just born. So much has happend in 19 years, with everything. First I'd have to learn what was going on in the world, and what had happened while I was gone, like Desert Storm, Waco, Oklahoma City, O.J., Monica/Bill, 911, the current 'war'. Then I'd have to try all the new products that had emerged while I was 'out', like cd players, microwaves, computers, internet, dvd players, everything. Then I'd have to find out what happened with my family and other important people in my life. Then I'd get down to films. I'd find out what came out the year I 'left', filter through it, and watch what interested me. Then do the same year after year until I was caught up with now. It would just be awesome and astounding to go through movies and watch them evolve from the awesome effects of Ghostbusters and Back to the Future to T2 Judgement Day and Jurassic Park to Matrix and many others. To be honest I dont think my mind would handle it that well.

If it were my friend though, I'd show all the movies I just mentioned. Forget choosing one, that wouldnt be possible. :P

I'd say Pulp Fiction. Possibly Goodfellas and Fight Club as well. Ooh, ooh, and The Matrix. That'd really fuck with em'!:D

If I were trying to show him what movies are visually capable of now, I'd show him T2 or Jurassic Park.

If I were to show him the best movie since he'd fallen asleep, I'd show him The Shawshank Redemption, no contest.

Annie Hall

I think I'd take Scarface's route and show him Say Anything... or High Fidelity.

I know if I was asleep for 19 years, as much as I love the film, I wouldn't want to wake up to Trainspotting. Ease him into the hardcore stuff, wait til he's adjusted to his new surroundings and bloody century before giving him Trainspotting or the like.

I'd have to leave him be with a porno first, because his balls'd be this big (I'm holding my arms out) and would be disracting, perhaps even obstructive for him.

Then I'd show him Twelve Monkeys.

Lol..seriously id hate to be that guy..

i would show him jurassic park telling him its based on a true story and doing the same for T2 and the best 3 animated movies aswell as 2 drama and 4 action. and then he would say to me "This cant be" id then say "be what? be real?" (lol dats off the matrix) and then tell him i tricked him telling JP was real but this movie up Next is the real truth, The MAtrix would then slide in :P.

And it wouldn't even work as anestesia, either, because it has a certain grim fascination to it. Like watching a guy gnaw his leg off to get free of a bear trap: it's horrible, but you just have to watch...
