Dawn will be released sometime in feburary in 2004. It will be three discs long and include the three different versions of the film: Original theatrical cut, director's cut, argento cut. Also several extras including commentaries, behind the scenes making of and several more. hey speaking of day it's only like 40 more days till day comes out. Yippee!:D :D

Still speaking of Day, what's your opinion of the movie itself?

Day of the dead was awesome. It ties with Dawn of the Dead. Both 9/10's.

What's the deal with the 3 different cuts of Dawn Of The Dead, and why is it that Anchor Bay is releasing them all in the one package?

Actually axe grinder the dawn of the dead dvd will come in three seperate packages. One package just includes the original theatrical cut, one package just includes the director's cut, and the last package will contain the original, director's, and the argento cut. So it's optional. And as for my opinion of day... well I've never seen the whole film. I've seen bits and pieces but those bits and pieces were so great that I'm just gonna buy it straight out because I know I'm gonna love it. I feel ashamed because I haven't seen the whole thing but it's not my fault. It never comes on the channels I get and my video store doesn't contain it. But I know I'm gonna love the film and as soon as it comes out I'll post a review for it.

The original theatrical cut is 126 minutes. Director's is about two hours and twenty minutes and the argento cut is about an hour and forty something minutes.

Which one is the best?

You forgot too mention the 156 minute german cut of the film , that , from what i've heard combines elements from all the films , the Theatrical , Director's , and Argento's cut . It supposedly features even more gore ( more heashots of the various zombies ) , but i have not seen this version , so i cannot comment on any of these claims .

Now , which version would i choose , it sounds like the German cut , but since that one doesn't have an English language soundtrack , i would have to say the Director's Cut . It doesn't actually add too much to the story , and for some reason the music that plays during the opening credits has been changed ( to me the music that was utilized in the Theatrical version really set the perfect nervous out of control tone ) , but there are some scenes that make a bit more sense as a result of the restored scenes . The scene when they break down a boarded up apartment in the scene when the Sawt team assaults the quarantined apartment complex , and the scene at the heliport when Roger discovers the murdered dispatcher / air traffic controller and he's confronted by a band of rogue cops looting the place . I 'm not totally positive but i think there are more zombie headshots in the Argento version , or maybe it's just my imagine , but ultimately i don't like the choice of music in his version , although it moves at a relatively brisk pace , the music changes the whole feel of the proceedings .

Now , the Day disc will be terrific , no doubt , but i am disappointed by the fact that it looks like the commentary track will not feature Savini , Romero , or any of the cast . Why ? They had the right idea with all the featurettes and the decision to remaster the sound in DTS ES 6.1 , but why didn't they get some other people on the commentary track . I'm hesistant to buy this because of that one [i]Major{/i] detail , because i know they will probably release another version with different commentary tracks eventually .

By the way , Anchor Bay is the king of the horror dvd now , but i see a new , up and coming company giving them a bit of a run for their money , not long from now . That company is Media Blasters , they are releasing some quality horror DVD's with excellent extras , i'm starting to regard them as much as Anchor Bay .

Oh yeah , who thinks that the UFDC ( United Film Distribution Company ) intro in the beggining of Day of the Dead added to the appeal of the film . Or even the Thorn EMI intro in the beginning of Dawn ? I know it's a small touch , but for some reason , those intros are ingrained in memory , and i will always feel like their is something if they are not there . Of course the Thorn EMI intro cannot be on the Dawn dvd , but why wasn't the UFDC intro on the first version of Day ? To me , the film is incomplete without it . Or was it , i don't remember it being there .

Well actually there also even more versions of the film but I just wanted to list the three most well known ones. I've only seen the theatrical cut and I loved it. I'd like to see the other cuts though.

Jeez, does John Romero know how badly his classic is getting raped by these studios? Whatever happened to creative control?

Most of the other versions are foreign. There's also an "R" version out there which consists of over fifty cuts.

Go to http://www2.gol.com/users/noman/ and then go down to where it says versions and click on it. The page will tell about the several different versions of dawn.

Dude, if you're going to post links for the Night Of The Living Dead series, you can't do it without posting the Homepage of the Dead (http://www.homepageofthedead.com), which IMO is THE source for George Romero's trilogy. Thanks for that link, though.

Hmm, which version is the best? I have all three versions on DVD already and have to go with the 141 minute Directors Cut. I like the Argento cut, which is shorter and gorier, but ultimately sacrifices too much plot in favour of additional gore (and is only in fullscreen whereas the others are in widescreen), and the theatrical cut has slightly better music, but for me it's the 141 minute version that I watch when I want to see this movie.

DD - the Day DVD features a commentary by Romero and 'others', although the ad in Fango doesn't specify who these 'others' are, but the fact that George is doing it is good enough for me.

I'm looking forward to the 2-disc Day next month, and the 3-disc Dawn next year (I read January somewhere, but could be mistaken). :)

You can still find the long out-of-print DVD for the American Release cut of "Dawn of the Dead" (Selling on ebay for $30++ if you can find it), at Hkflix.com

Meh, I'll wait for Anchor Bay's release. I'm sure that they won't disappoint. With 3 different cuts of the movie, along with the extras, you can't lose.

Yep , you're right , i only said that because the link rt supplied didn't state that . Should have just went directly to Anchor Bay's website first to confirm . So , i'll definitely be snatching this up , it's going to be terrific , and i'd love to hear what the hot babe Lori Cardille has to say about the production . Not too mention Romero and Savini . This is a must buy , for sure , but most fans already know that .

Stop paying 50 bucks on Ebay for the out of print Day DVD , this looks like the ultimate version , i can't see how they could top it .

Fett , we agree that the director's cut of Dawn is the best version out there , and i agree about the music in Argento's version , it ruins the tension , and makes watching the film a whole different experience . It's aggressive and fast when it should be quiet and subtle , and vice versa . I'm surprised Argento didn't do something different with it , because he can tell a nice story when he wants to , i think he just wanted to focus more on the action appeal to European audience .

Has anyone seen the 156 minute german cut ? I'm way curious to see what extra scenes are in that one .

Is the Japanese Cut the worst? I heard that instead of showing the gore, the film stops at the frame before the actual gore while the sound continues (?!) and once the gory stuff is over, the film starts up at the point past the gore. Now if I'm not mistaken, these are the same people who came out with those Guinea Pig films, and yet they won't show zombies attacking and eating people? Get real. . .

Don't expect Dawn any time soon...

I just talked to ken foree at a convention yesterday and I asked him when the movie will be getting a dvd release. he says it's in litigation due to someone... but he isn't going to say any names... but that person is the main reason why the movie is taking so long to be released.
