I don't own a DVD player yet but am getting there. I recently saw an article naming some extremely good DVDs. SO here's a list of the ones that I really want to get and that others should get. Unless they are actually bad DVD's:

1. Independence Day (90 min. of extra footage!!0
2. Braveheart
3. Blade
4. Dark City
5. The Matrix
6. 2001: A Space Odyssey
7. Gladiator (when it comes out)
8. Das Boot
9. Fight Club
10. Any Star Wars Episodes

Now ThAT's A LIST!!! Please add some onto the list. I heard that 2001 was good but i need some more backup. So just add the kick ass DVD's to the list.

TEN BEST:

1. Brazil Criterion Collection
2. Fight CLub
3. Spartacus Criterion (pirate copies only)
4. Perfect Blue (anime fans unite)
5. Pedator (For surround sound FUN)
6. The Nightmare Collection (digitally remas)
7. Nightmare Before Christmas (widescreen)
8. Leon (professional twenty minutes longer)
9. The Killer (digitally remastered)
10. Magnolia

These are mainly from a NOT available on video standpoint. These are not nescessarily the best movies ever.

DaN, None of the StarWars films are even on DVD (except terrible illigal Hong Kong bootleg copies).

On top of that, you list Gladiator which also isn't even released yet.

Did you fall on your head at birth? You jackass. So, no, that isn't exacly worth of saying "Now ThAT's A LIST!!!"

What do you mean by NOT available on video? I own these films on video and usually when i get pre-ordered copies, they come in letterbox...also I own them on DVD, because I had the video before the DVD came out...

- "Magnolia" pan & scan video
- "Fight Club" pan & scan video
- "Perfect Blue" Letterbox video
- "Nightmare On Elm Street Collection" remastered high definition video
- "Nightmare Before Christmas" Letterbox Video
- "Predator" Letterbox video
- "Leon: The Professional" Letterbox Video
- "The Killer" Letterbox video (John Woo Collection)
- "Spartacus" Letterbox Video
- "Brazil" Letterbox Video
also Criterion does release on video and a lot of their best stuff isn't on DVD yet...

You don't have to have a DVD player to enjoy films the way they were meant to be seen, it just helps...

I found Independence Day's to be not that good. The extra footage was stupid(there was only like 8 minutes of it) and the extra 90 minutes were just documentarys that I had already seen.

Top 5:
1. Mallrats(great movie, great DVD, great)
2. Fight Club
3. American History X(NC-17 version) (intense)
4. The Matrix
5. T2 Judgment Day: The Ultimate DVD

You'll probably be able to add Final Destination and Dogma: SE later this year.

I dinnae say you HAD to own a DVD player to enjoy them... But in most cases, the quality of film transer IS better, they are letterboxed and not hard to find... and they, like in the case of the killer, have better subtitles.
You can get these movies on VHS, but magnolia needs the widescreen to truly make the film art... the pan&scan makes it too jumpy, so on this one, you do need a DVD player to enjoy it the way it was MEANT to be seen...
On top of that, my list was meant for a guy asking for dvd's with cool extras, all of which, if you will note on my list, do have something not available on DVD, but since i Didn't list all the extras, I guess I should have said with EXTRAS not available on video... so go ahead and be Nit-picky, but I was just trying to help a guy out.

Don't wear your emotions on your sleeve, McFly...I just didn't understand what you meant by "not available on video"...I am in total agreement...DVD is better, that is why I own a DVD player and buy DVDs...you just didn't mention extras...hell, I could think of lots of DVDs with cool extras and shiity movies...personally, I would rather have a great film with no extras than a medocre film with lots of extras...besides...how many versions of the "Fight Club" trailer and internet trailer does a person need to see?...I mean I dig the DVD set and everything but man...talk about monotony after several hundred viewings...

my favorite is still the Brad Pitt Public Service Announcement where he says "Urine is sterile...you can drink it"...

Dude, stefanb. I've got one word for you. SHUTUP! I clearly said Gladiator (WHEN IT COMES OUT). And the Star Wars was just a guess. Damn. SO i made a mistake. Well, no I didn't I said i'd like to get the gladiator DVD when it comes out. Now now "you jackass."
You know, it sounds like you had something up your ass when you typed that. And no I didn't fall on my head at birth. It does sound like you fell on your head at birth, cracked your head open and had to have surgery by a pot smoking hobo. So just calm down. And learn how to read. It just pisses me off when someone thinks that if they begin to diss someone they are cool. They have to have some damn reason for doing that. You just typed what you said with your head up your ass. I don't mean this to be cruel (not) but just calm down and read the whole message. Don't take things so literally like when I typed now that's a list!. man...

DaN, jackass, whatever... This topic was best DVD's, not favorite films. How can you assume the DVD will be good if it doesn't even exist yet? Let's be open to the fact that it might just suck. If you wanted to state your top ten films, then call it "Top Tem Films". No, you called it "Top Ten DVD's" then proceeded to list off shit that doesn't even exist ya gonad.

hey, stefanb, when Star Wars the DVD Trilogy comes out, don't you think that with all the crazy technology George Lucas has pioneered, the DVD's will probably blow everyone's minds? I think it's safe to say that the Trilogy, regardless of when it comes out, will be on everyone's list.

As for other movies that don't exist, DaN mentioned Gladiator (december release), which preliminary details have already been confirmed. So techically, that does count as a release.

Dude, take it easy on the name calling, we're all entitled to our opinions. If someone says something that's clearly wrong, point it out to them, there's no need to get malicious. It's about discussion, not writing creative insults.

Jésus Christ stefanb. Don't you get it. These are all DVD's that I'm looking forward to. I read articles about them and they said they were really good. And i mentioned lots of action movies that anyone SHOULD assume as a good DVD. I mean, they would have good sound, picture, sound, sound... Those are not top ten films. If you wanted my top ten films look for my damn 100 list coming out sooner or later after i see Goodfellas (which may take a while). So just quit saying dumb shit and read. These are all DVD's that I heard were good and I wanted to post them in hopes people could add on or say that one isn't that good. You instead just jump the line and start saying crap that just popped into your head. If you need more intelligence I will post my new DVD list AND my top ten list. You'll see the difference.

DVD's NOT TOP MOVIES!! THIS IS FOR TOP DVD's that I am looking forward to:

1. Independence Day (90 min. of extra footage!!)
2. Braveheart
3. Edward Scissorhands
4. Dark City
5. Blade
6. 2001: A Space Odyssey
7. Gladiator (when it comes out)
8. Das Boot
9. Fight Club
10. The Matrix
11. Star Wars

TOP TEN MOVIES> MOVIES MOVIES MOVIES!!!!!

1. A Clockwork Orange
2. Braveheart
3. The Exorcist
4. The Last of the Mohicans
5. Young Frankenstien
6. 2001: A Space Odyssey
7. Schindler's List
8. The Shining
9. Pulp Fiction
10. Amadeus

There. See the difference?????

Top 10 countries I've visited:

- France
- Australia
- England
- Luxembourg
- Cluelessberg
- Japan
- HookeeStookee
and finally...
- Norway

Now, I 've never been to any of these countries. In fact, some of these countries don't even exist here in the real world. Some of these countries may exist some day (possibly). If they do exist one day, there are people who speculate they will be good countries to visit. Based on that, I've decided to post and say that these are "my personal favorite" countries to visit. I realize I may see rather stupid right now. I mean, I am creating a list of "my personal favorites" based on
1. Other people's opinions (not my own).
2. complete speculation without facts.
3. sheer stupidity because we all now that some of these countries may ~never~ exist. (or DEFINATLY not before 2006 anyway ahem - "Star Wars" according to Lucas himself)

So let's recap. This is a forum where we come to post "our own personal opinions" on things. I understand that I've besed my personal opinions on everything except "my own pesonal opinions", and I've pretty much just made a posting out of what other people tell me is good. I do this because I'm incapable of forming my own opinion on things, so I need others to do it for me. I don't know what I just don't let it go, but it just seemed like a good idea at the time.

Alright. Now that last statement was just meaningless, mindless babble. Lets just calm down and lets BOTH shut up about this. I just put stuff down that I was looking forward to. If the title bothered you...to bad. I cant change it. So lets just forget this dumbass argument. It's starting to get annoying and beyond meaningless.

DEAL! /ubb/smile.gif Just for the record, this is all just pure entertainment value for me. Well this may have been pissing you off, I've been laughing my testicles off since the first posting. Call it twisted therapy. It's really quite stress relieving, you know? /ubb/smile.gif

But just for shits n' giggles now, the best of the DVD's I've run across are (in no particular order)...

Fight Club (mainly for the THX home theatre setup stuff - super cool for freaks like me who've spent over $8 grand on an all the different pieces of their entertainment system. This disc is stacked.

The Matrix has the coolest sound effects od just about anything. the thirteenth floor gets honorable mention for the same thing. The mummy (for a cheesy flick) has some cool effects too.

I like Twister for one single reason. It has the english sound track in DTS, Dolby Digital 5.1, and regular Dolby Pro-logic. It makes it easy to compare the different sound setups. Really cool.

For good/Great movies, I found the DVD version to be a disappointment for The Sixth Sense, and The Shawshank Redemption. Neither really seemed to make any use of the surround sound channels.

If music DVD's count (and you're a Metallica fan), S&M is pretty cool, you can listen to the whole concert, or just the band, or just the symphony. It was really neat. Cunning Stunts (another Metallica DVD) is also super cool (especially the song "One").

Oh, and of all the strange things to add to this list.... Space Jam (yes, the looney toon and Michael Jordan movie) is probably one of the best movies every made in Digital Sound. the sounds in the movie are amazing on a good home theatre setup.

dat's it.
