Man, was this a good old-fashioned ghost story horror movie! No stupid braindead teenagers having sex and getting stabbed to death, no hip-hop or rap-metal soundtrack, no goofy computer special effects. Nope, just good old-fashioned suspense and terror!
I can probably say this movie was a little like The Haunting, minus all the special effects.
Anyways, everything about this movie, the excellent acting by both Nicole Kidman and the kids, the soundtrack, the atmosphere, everything, was just incredible.
And there was this one part in the movie that had everyone jumping out of their seats and SCREAMING their heads off, then laughing hysterically afterwards.
And the twist ending was very good also.
Overall, a very good movie, very creepy, very suspenseful, and well worth my $7.
This movie is for people who enjoy a thought-provoking suspenseful film, rather than lolly-pop sucking teenyboppers who flock to see American Pie 2 or Rush Hour 2. (Rush Hour 2 was pretty good though).
And this movie is for anyone who wants to see something you don't normally get during the summer season. If you want to see something that is intelligent, creepy, suspenseful, atmospheric, and edge-of-your seat, rather than another dumbass grossout comedy like American Pie 2, then I whole-heartedly reccomend this movie.
Joblo was spot on with this review. I too give his movie a 9/10.

I also agree with Joblo's mark. Definitely a 9.

Yah, it's quite a good movie. It's a mysterious, suspenseful, chilling thriller that will cool you down on a hot summer day /ubb/biggrin.gif This is one of the few movies I'm willing to see twice this year /ubb/smile.gif

y friend hated it because it was too long on suspense. What people don't know is that it's not supposed to be that kind of movie. If you walk in knowing that, you'll have a great time.

I viewed this flick after I had been wanting to see it for a while, even before Arrow and Joblo's great remarks which made me more anxious. It was just as delivered, a grown up ghost story with no FX, almost no score, just fear and paranoia. I thought Kidman and the two child actors outshone The Sixth Sense cast which this movie will be unfairly compared to. Although I have to bitch about a bunch of teens and other people sat and laughed through a couple scenes which upset us. Guess American Pie 2 was sold out. Anyhow this movie is highly recommended but don't go if you want non-stop action and FX.
I thought it was just ok. I much prefer THE SIXTH SENSE.

The Others was a really good old fashioned ghost story with a surprisingly very good performance from Nicole Kidman...the atmosphere and mood was very dark and sinister and aided by the large imposing house...a nice change of pace from the summer blockbusters...
8/10

Defitnetly one of Kidman's best performances.

What are you talking about Green? Of course the two films will be compared and rightfully so because they are both extremely similar. Even the twist ending of The Others was like The Sixth Sense.

I really enjoyed the Others, it had a great mood to it. And it was directed nicely too, the acting wasn't always "on" but when is it?

Anyone else give "the others" a 9/10? This is a little offtopic, but Ive noticed that everyone's review values are almost ALWAYS congruent with Jo's reviews. If you guys truely feel that way, thats cool...but com'on guys, form your own opinions of things...

Spoilers****************
Well Probably too little, too late but here goes
Why the angry face there Narst? I voiced my opinion, I thought they where very good performances and I thought it was Kidman's best since To Die For. I am no movie critic, in fact I probably know jackshit about movies. Would people have made a fuss over The Others if it was released before The Sixth Sense? I just think since TSS came first everyone would compare them. While they are similar they also have several differences. The Others was told from the main ghosts view with no interaction while in The Sixth Sense the living and the dead interacted through the whole film. They could also be compared to Jacob's Ladder and several other films. I guess I am wrong. I seem to have gotten bitched out for voicing my opinion.

I'll go on the record as saying I gave The Others a 6/10.
And I didn't mean anything personal Green. Sorry if I came across that way.

Lets let bygones be bygones, what do you say we bury the hatchet, the next round is on me.
SPOILERS
I felt that this movie surpassed the Sixth Sense because its greatest asset wasn't just its surprise twist ending. It dealt with the ideas of heaven, hell, and limbo. I was sitting there thinking....gosh....so are they in limbo? Are they trapped there forever? It was chilling to see Grace holding her shaking children saying that Anne was no wiser than her. There was no resolution for them--no gurantee they'd experience happily ever after in the next life. That is what makes "The Others" a cut above the Sixth Sense, which was excellent in its own right.
Also--wasn't Fionnula Flanagan just CREEPY AS HELL as Mrs. Mills?

I think that the movie was okay (7/10 in my opinion) but not that good. It's problem was that it was too slow, and I waited an waited for SOMETHING to happen and when it did, the movie was over. The Sixth Sense (9/10) was a really good movie and scared the shit out of me. Also, the twist was much cooler.
A good haunted house movie is The Haunting (9/10) and I'm not talking about the crappy new one, I mean the old one, which had no special effects whatsoever, except for sound effects, of course. This movie was so scary and suspenseful, and it doesn't have a shocking and unexpected twist at the end like The Sixth Sense and The Others, but it definitely has a pleasing and satisfying end to a great movie.
Go rent it if you're brave enough.

The only reason why I saw it, was because My brother and I wanted to hear the quote "I am you Daughter" Then I heard the reviews so we finally saw it. As a guy I actually screamed in the movie. That movie couldnt have been any scarier then it was. 10/10

Go watch the Exorcist in the dark if you want to see a man scream....
The Others, while the acting was great, took a little too long to get there.
I liked the ending and the concept. 7/10

GREEN, you just ruined the ending for me. Try to write *** SPOILERS *** when you do that.
