He never shys awy from controversial material and complained of being stifled in his homeland. He wanted to make his films, the way he wanted with political undercurrents and satire always surfacing.

A hit & miss director in the FLESH & BLOOD, ROBOCOP, BASIC INSTINCT, STARSHIP TROOPERS, SHOWGIRLS etc his Dutch films are interesting viewing as a precursor to these over the top gore fest that often go to far and let the style over take teh substance.

My faves of his Dutch work are:

THE 4th MAN- so entertaining
SOLDIER OF ORANGE
THE ROYAL DUTCH MARINES
THE WRESTLER
TURKISH DELIGHT

Love him or hate him, why?????

List and discuss his style and influences or whatever else stand out for you.......

See my thread here (http://www.joblo.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=57421) about SOLDIER OF ORANGE.

TURKISH DELIGHT was good but I had a very hard time sympathizing with Rutger Hauer's character.

I have mixed feelings about SPETTERS, considering all the explicit sexual content that it had, although the story did kept me engaged

I've only seen out of these The 4th Man, and it was pretty good although a bit cheesy and weird. Anyway, who am i to say something is too weird?:D It was an interesting thriller.
