Romero has been trying to get Dead Reckoning, now known as Land of the dead made since 1998.First it was rumored that Anchor bay was gonna put up 4 million in financing. But Romero has said that he needed 6-12 million to do this right.
Then Fox,offered Romero 10 million to make Dead 4,with Creative Freedom, and all the gore he wants,if he could give the flick an R-rating.With an unrated DVD to follow.
But in the past few months, rumors float that Romero walks out of meetings with Fox,and that negotiations had stoped.Gillermo Del Toro helped Romero get $$$ for the new Dead.
Now in what has to be the oddest news I have read of late is that Dimension and Fox have both offered Romero 17 million for it.
John Carpenter offered Romero the same amount to be a producer on it and score the film.It sounds great, but it could only be a rumor.Go to Homepage of the Dead to read it.
Thats All I know as of late.

That's a cool idea , but i can see a ton of litigation popping up all over the place if they did do something like that . You , hey i donated more than this putz , i should get a percentage of the DVD sales at least . Unless everyone just signed some sort of waver .
If Romero is talking to fox again , it's most likely because of the success of 28 days later ( Fox Searchlight ) , maybe they are realizing that there is a market for " zombie / horror " films and who better to make one than the master . Now John Carpenter's involvement " could " be a positive , but considering his latest run of pictures , it could be a hindrance also . I wouldn't mind him just raising some money and and doing the score , but staying out of any decisions with regards to the narrative and characters , and all the other stuff . Plus , you know Savini will be on board , there is no doubt . You know who i wish would really get involved , Argento of course , what a great team they made with Dawn .
Now , i wouldn't get my hopes up for an NC 17 theatrical release . There is no freakin' way any studio would agree to that . And unrated , your'e dreaming , but most likely the DVD will unrated , like has already been mentioned . I wish they would at least release an Unrated version in certain art house theaters , but i will be happy just to know , at this point , that it's official , Romero is making his Dead trilogy swan song . Hopefully , this project will be greenlighted not long from now , and then he can show O'l Danny Boy how it's really done .
I get giddy thinking about the fourth installment , he hasn't missed yet with the first three so far , and i'm curious to see what he does with the narrative , considering the current political and social climate .
