Any fans of this beautiful, romantic, scary, imaginative and very funny masterpiece? It was this movie that was almost solely responsible for awakening my interest in Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Hong Kong cinema (John Woo's The Killer also helped). The choreography of the fight scenes is astonishing with many moments that belie the movies low budget. The entire scene in the spooky haunted temple is one of the finest pieces of slapstick comedy i've ever seen (and manages to be very fucking creepy at the same time...no mean feat). I've yet to see either of the sequels. Hopefully one of you schmoes will have seen all three and can confirm whether they are worth tracking down.

This was a really neat movie, I saw this quite a while ago when I was REALLY young (like, 4 or 5), but my parents love this film. We have A Chinese Ghost Story 2 on vhs somewhere as well, I'll probably go back and watch a bit of it later, but don't watch it expecting the first because it isn't quite as good...but it's definitely not bad. I like the third one better than the second but still not as good as the original.

I'm a fan of these types of kung-fu movies (most of them having slapstick humor in them, even though I'd like them even more sometimes without that humor...probably why I liked Crouching Tiger and Hero so much -they're some of the few epic martial arts films that don't have any slapstick humor in them at all...much more serious, which is a problem i find with most martial arts movies, they aren't serious or else some of them could be even more amazing) and this first movie was an example of one of the better ones.

I'm sure I've seen one of the three movies. I'm having a hard time remembering which one. From what I can remember was a rather entertaining movie. I'm sure the other ones are similiar in quality.

If you are looking for serious martial arts movies then you should check out Fist Of Legend. That's a really fucking serious movie with some really fucking serious fighting. Iron Monkey ain't half bad either but there are a couple of lighthearted moments (no broad or slapstick humour though). Another really serious martial arts movie is The New Dragon Gate Inn. Very cool. Moon Warriors is another.

LOL, thanks for the choices, but being a huge huge Jet Li fan i've seen Fist of Legend (which was awesome btw, I did love it, probably my second or first favorite Jet Li movie)...Iron Monkey I've seen as well, but I haven't seen The New Dragon Gate Inn as far as I know, so I'll see if I can find a copy of it and watch it some time.

Thanks for the suggestions :D

Chinese Ghost Story was a surprisingly fun little flick, ive never really been a fan of slapstick humour and while a lot of it annoyed me was a lot funnier than i thought it would be. the martial arts were good and the fights were nicely done, there was also some gore which i wasnt expecting. the film also looked pretty good and was nicely filmed

7/10

i might have to chekck out the sequels
