I know what you did Last Summer is one of those flicks that came after scream so there for it copied it and it goes down with Valentine and Urban Legend but after viewing it again this past week I realized that it's reallly not that bad. Am I the only one who thinks this...I mean it had its flaws but the suspence was good and Gellar'sperformance as Helen Shivers was enough for me.....She did a great job, and Anne Heche did good too....Ryan plays a great asshole and well Jennifer and Freddie tried there best....It had a great chase scene with Gellar and some gore too.......I had bought this when it first came out but never watched it much and Im glad I popped it back into the vcr cause I found I know what you did last summer pretty enjoyable....what do you guys and gals think?

I'm a fan of IKWYDLS. It's never going to be on my favourite horror movies of all time list or anything, but it's solid. Unfortunately, a lot of people feel the need to bash it because it's a "teenybopper film". But really, it's not a bad film. It's not as good as Scream, but it has some good suspense/kill scenes, and decent performances (except Freddie Prinze...awful). It gets a little silly toward the end, but IMO the good outweighs the bad.

Furhtermore, IKWYDLS had some great atmosphere! I'm not one of these people who's inclined to bash a movie just because it's hip, but I will admit that "teen" movies usually lack in atmosphere. However, this isn't the case with IKWYDLS.

Some of these teen movies do suck. I Still Know and Urban Legend 2 are both crap. Unfortunately, a lot of people immediately despise any of Scream's imitators, without ever giving them the benefit of the doubt. Give this one a chance.

I Know... is decent. Scream is to I Know... as Halloween is to Friday the 13th. It's one of the better modern day slashers. For starters, it actually feels like a horror film. The sequel feels like wedding cake, water balloons, suntan lotion, party favors, and used tampons all rolled into one. Or something.

Put it this way: IKWYDLS should have been called IKWYROLS (I Know What You Ripped Off Last Summer). Jeez, every time I think of this movie, I think of Scream and Urban Legends. Could it possibly be that they are all from the same cookie cutter mold that Wes Craven happened upon?

I also think IKWYDLS is a nice, solid horror film. Of the "teeny-bopper" horror movies, I like to think that this is the least "teenybopper" of the bunch, because, yes, it has the then-star of the months, but honestly, who cares? They acted pretty well, I think. And as for it being a "rip-off" of scream, yes, Kevin Williamson did push for this based on the success of of "Scream," but very few people seem to know this, but "I Know What You Did Last Summer" is based on a book written before 1997 and before "Scream" and was written in the 70's, I think. I know, I've seen the book at my school. But, based on a book or not, "Scream" is the last thing I think of when I see the words "I Know What You Did Last Summer," because unlike "Scream," it doesn't have jokey, self-referencial feel to it (which is not a bad thing), but an atmospheric and more tense feel to it. I think the only reason people bash it is, because it followed "Scream" 's success, and of course, there's many people who don't like "Scream," but they should give "I Know What YOu Did Last Summer" a FAIR CHANCE and give another look while NOT thinking of "Scream" when they see Kevin Williamson's name in the credits. That's what I have to say.

I see IKWYDLS as a teeny bopper film but still remains to be impressive. While I loathed Scream I enjoyed this one. The actors were mainstream, but they were actually very good in horror. Sarah Michelle Gellar and Jennifer Love Hewitt, I thought, proved in this genre they were more than just pretty faces (or whatever the male schmoes here choose to concentrate on.) Some great suspense scenes, kills, stalking, and build-up. Overall they did a very good job.

IKWYDLS is an okay flick but i prefer the sequel, its more fun and doesn't take itself as seriously

I bought IKWYDLS as part of a sale at Woolworths ages ago and got Candyman 3 as well, I thought I would hate IKWYDLS and like Candyman 3 but it turned out it was the other way round. I hated Candyman 3 and liked IKWYDLS.

It was a decent enough slasher film, it made me jump out of my seat everynow and then (the model place where hes wrapped himself in the plastic and the shower). But it did get pretty crap towards the end, as soon as we found out who the killer was it just wasn't scary anymore and the tension was gone. Also, the gore only seemed to appear when Ben killed the "not-so-main-characters" when it came to killing Sarah Michelle and Ryan's characters there was very little-or no gore at all which was a bit of a bummer. And also, Freddie Prince's performance was, lack of a better word, crap.

But apart from those three nick picks I enjoyed the movie surprisingly and thought it had a pretty cool creepy setting. Although, I Still Know... topped that off with the most creepy setting I have ever seen in a horror movie with the Carribean. Pretty decent film.

i have a soft spot for the first IKWYDLS,, just for the fact it has Ryan Phillipe in it. He's a badass, and plays a likable asshole. Well photographed movie that is heavily flawed, but is likable due to its neat killer and Phillipe.

6/10, or 7/10 since I am such a Ryan fan. If your not then I would choose the 6/10 and avoid dissapointment.

YOU RULE MAN! RULE!

ISKWYDLS gets a 5.10, sucked all but for the cool setting and Jack Black baby. The D will never die!
ISKWYDLS is the cosmic shame in my eyes.

It's good to see that this post didn't immediately get bogged down with ten thousand posts about how shit this movie is and how those who like it are silly and not real horror fans etc etc. I actually thought the movie only so-so when I first saw it, but ended up really enjoying it the second time around. As far as I'm concerned, it's not that "teeny-bopper" at all. Ryan Phillippe and Freddie Prinze were completely unknown at the time, Sarah Michelle had only done 12 eps of Buffy, which was not yet the cult hit it became, there's not much "hip" dialogue and no more pop culture references than any horror flick before Scream. If this flick had been made in 1981, everybody would love it. I for one think it's a very good horror entry - good build-up, character development, and one hell of a good chase scene (Sarah Michelle's of course).

I loved IKWYDLS, i thought it was one of the good horror movies of the 90s, it wasn't scary but it was creepy, it had great stalk sequences (Sarah Michelle Gellars) and it has nice quick deaths. The ending was good, liked the chase scenes at the end as well, very well acted and written.

8/10

I've never really understood why this film gets bashed so much.I don't think it's great but it's a fun little slasher with decent acting and some suspenseful moments.I own this flick and watch it pretty often.

It's an okay film, carried by a few stellar moments that keeps it from joining the leagues of the forgettable Scream copycats like Stab and Lover's Lane. What bugs the hell out of me though is...
SPOILERS

how in the hell was the killer supposed to have removed all those crabs and a dead body, and apparently the smell too, out of the car trunk on a residential street in broad daylight without anybody seeing him? Don't just put in a scene for the "boo" shock factor unless you can back it up with logic.

Now, I don't like slashers. They're not my "style" so to speak.. but I dig this one. Probably one of the reasons I like it, is that I have seen it only 1 time - when it came to the cinemas. Though, I've been thinking about watching it again. Anyways, the movie itself was creepy, the atmosphere -especially Southport at night- was the best for this kind of .. action. The sequel was crap (sadly), but entertaining (it had its "moments").
As much as I remember from the movie, it deserves at least 7/10 in my opinion.

6/10.

I think it was above average, and not a bad rental. Am I the only one who found the opening with the fisherman WAY creepy?

The first time i saw this i really enjoyed it and thought it was very good but the second time i hated it, it was very slow to get going, nothing interesting really happens and the acting was alright but nothing special

one positive thing going for it though is some nice kills with that hook

I think this movie was terrible. It seemed really generic although the premise was original.

That pretty much how I felt about this movie... If I never saw it a second time, I would probably still think it was decent...

Actually though, this movie is not the worst of the mid-late 90's slasher genre.... It's somewhere in the middle... The problem is that The Fisherman is the most uninteresting and dullest slasher probably ever... Nothing about him sticks out... Jason has his groovy wild kills, Freddy has his personality and dream powers, Myers has his creepy presence... Even slashers such as Cropsy (The Burning) and Pinhead (Hellraiser) had something about them the set them apart... Hell, even Ghostface was more interesting than The Fisherman and Ghostface wasnt even a real Ghost...

None of the above are probably that scary anymore, but they all scared people at their first appearances throughout the years... Even though the sequels tainted their images, they still got the job done early on during their respective times...

The Fisherman just doesnt have anything to go on... He was never scary in his tacky Gortons Fisherman outfit... I want fear, not a bag of fish sticks... He ranks up there with the fear of the Eskimo from Urban Legend...

Still, it's miles better than the sequel, but the sequel is absolutely putrid, so it's not too hard...

The worst spots are reserved for true to blue crappers sush as I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, Urban Legends: Final Cut (What exactly did this movie have to do with Urban Legends?), and Valentine...

I Know What You Did Last Summer is a movie that I always want to love. It has the gore, it has the gorgeous women and it has a fresh plot. But when I listen to the awful dialogue, I can't help but think how poor the film really is when you get right down to it. I enjoy it but it isn't a good film. It certainly has it's moments and it did carry itself fairly well but I just don't think of it as a "good" film.

I am a huge SMG fan and I thought she was excellent in the movie. The only thing that I really dont like about the film is Julie (Jennifer Love Hewitts) inability to scream for more than 2 seconds at things that would have people running to change their shorts. Other than that, I thought it was a pretty cool idea for a movie.
