Hmmm....is it bad that I've heard of only 2 bands out of those 20? And even then I couldn't tell you any songs by them. What kind of music do those bands play (in general)?

Anyways, heres a few favs of mine so far this year:

NOFX - The War on Errorism
AFI - Sing the Sorrow
Seether - Disclaimer
Chevelle - Wonder What's Next
Evanescence - Fallen
Finger Eleven - Finger Eleven
Linkin Park - Meteora
gob - Foot in Mouth Disease
Marilyn Manson - Golden Age of Grotesque

i personally think its been a bit of a so so year so far ,not much has jumped out and grabbed me,three bands that i think have pretty much stood out so far are,the white stripes, electric six,and the flaming lips ,in terms of british music of which i am usually very keen to bum up,i think its been an awful year so far,the radiohead album did nothing for me i liked one track that was it,and that has probably been the years most hyped cd.

Whatever. I'll take music that I can rock out to over "Power pop" and "Eclectic experimentalism" (????) any day. The stuff you listed generally doesn't sound like stuff you can crowd surf and mosh to, which to me says its got no balls.

I will check out Mars Volta though, I've heard good things about em.

NOFX- THE WAR ON ERRORISM
Rise Against- Revolutions Per Minute

These two albums have jumped to the top of my favorites list.
In case anyones interested I'm going to give some recommendations:

NOFX-
The Separation of Church and Skate
The Irrationality of Rationality
Decom-posuer
Whoops I Od'd

Rise Against-
Black Masks and Gasoline
Heaven Knows
Blood-Red, White, and Blue
Amber Changing

I bought the new AFI album but wasn't impressed. They have no become too goth for my liking.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to find the new Motion City Soundtrack album. Haven't heard too much from them but I'm eager to hear more. In the next couple of months I still have the new Offspring and Pennywise albums to look forward to.

Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

Strider's Top 10 Albums of 2003... thus far

01. "Get Rich or Die Tryin" - 50 Cent
02. "Furious Angels" - Rob Dougan
03. "Meteora" - Linkin' Park
04. "Fallen" - Evanescence
05. "The Matrix Reloaded Soundtrack" - Various Artists
06. "13 Shades of Gray" - Staind
07. "Audioslave" - Audioslave
08. "Elephant" - The White Stripes
09. "Cradle 2 the Grave Soundtrack" - Various Artists
10. "Disclaimer" - Seether

Thus far, I've been disappointed with the albums 2003 has to offer. Nothing really has grabbed my attention or interest, and hardly any great albums have been released as well. Also, I'm pissed off with the way rap/hip-hop is going right now... there hasn't been one damn album that looks like it's worth the money. The only worthy rap album released this year, is 50 Cent's awesome debut "Get Rich or Die Tryin", which just happens to be my favorite album of 2003 so far. Hopefully, once it gets closer to the Fall and Holiday seasons, some good albums will hit the stores....

I fully acknowledge that a lot of people like shitty music. As a matter of fact, most of them seem to hang out here. It's even worse when they listen to shit and then turn around and bemoan the lack of good music, like Mr. Strider a few posts up.

And also, if you'd read my original post a little more carefully, you'd have noticed the part where I said:

Go buy these....

King Geedorah: Take Me to Your Leader
Prefuse 73: One Word Extinguisher
Dizzee Rascal: Boy in Da Corner

If at least one of these doesn't make your year end best-of list, I will personally refund your money.

So, how long until this John Dark character gets banned?

I can't say that I have near the same tastes as everyone here but I do repect what everyone listens to.

My best albums of the year:
AFI: Sing The Sorrow
Linkin' Park: Meteora
Blessed Be Thy Name: The Divine Blastphemy

These are actually the only CDs I have bought that have been released this year that I liked, most of my purchases have been from earlier years.

And the official worst release by a (formely?) good artist is Marilyn Manson: The Golden Age of Grotesque.

You obviously require a "refresher"...

Rules & Guidelines (http://www.joblo.com/rules.htm)

Take SPECIAL NOTE...

You do not disrespect, insult or put down your fellow movie fan on our board. Civil debates only.

Seriously, Sir Dark...you continue with the veiled insults and I'll have NO alternative but to slap a banning on yo' ass.

You don't see me ripping the piss when it comes to fans of Tori, The Floyd and Coldplay...I expect EVERY visitor of this forum to show the same amount of decorum and respect.

Thanks.

Don't be absurd. I am your newest, greatest resource for good music.

--

And BCV, please realize that making derogatory comments about music and bands does not equate to insulting board members or attacking them personally. If someone tells me I listen to shitty music, it is not the same as calling me a shithead (and as a result, I am not offended). The latter is an insult, the former is not.

People are not their tastes. I give them more credit and assume they have more depth than that.

No one has been disrespected, put down, or insulted by me on this board - I have not called anyone shithead, moron, simpleton, retard, etc.. Certain types of music, on the other hand..... But the guidelines clearly do not say "do not put down certain types of music." And thank god for that, because how boring would thread after thread of people just stating their preferences be?

Also, keep in mind that too much of insult is in the mind of the person allegedly insulted. I could contend that the anti-rap thread was insulting to me personally because of the latent racism that permeated a lot of the posts there. But I didn't see any public warnings issued there about insulting or disrespectful posts.

So let's all just try and not let things get to us so much.

I think the main problem is that many of your posts reek of sarcasm and disdain. This can be amusing in moderation but when it becomes your raison d'etre then it can become a little tiresome. Just my opinion.

i would hazard a guess and say that 90% of the people who post on the music board would be a little pissed off and insulted by that statement,so lets try and grow up a bit and have a little bit more respect for your fellow music lovers or you will find people will just ignore your post's when personally i think you may have some interesting veiw's if stated in the right way.

I "realise" completely Mr. Dark.

Like the rules say...

You do not disrespect, insult or put down your fellow movie fan on our board.

Condescension is incredibly disrespectful in my eyes...as is the suggestion that the majority of posters on these very boards are somehow beneath your humble self in the 'taste department'.

I don't wish to debate with you, so lets leave it at that eh!?

Though not released until August 26th, Arch Enemy- Anthems of Rebellion is my favorite of 2003, so far.

"Elephant" by The White Stripes is easily the best thing I've heard thus far this year. Although some other very good ones are "A Rush of Blood to the Head" from Coldplay, "Sumday" from Grandaddy, "Infiltrate.Destroy.Rebuild" by CKY(though that might have been from last year), "Audioslave" from Audioslave, "Songs for the Deaf" by QOTSA(would be #1 but I think it was actually from last year), "El Cielo" by Dredg(once again, might be last year), "One by One" from The Foo Fighters, "Stone Sour" from Stone Sour, and "The Used" by The Used.

There has actually been quite a few really good albums to come out this past year. Anyone who says that music sucks nowadays should check out any one of these aforementioned albums.
