View Full Version : Horror Movies that should be remade

We all know that remakes of popular film are terrible ideas: attempts to cash in on previous sucesses without adding anything new -- and sometimes not understanding what made the original film a success in the first place.

But, there are movies out there that do deserve to be remade. Movies that misunderstood the concept the first time; movies that didn't make money the first time because they 'missed the window,' and came out in a time when audience were not ready or were fatigued by the concept; or little seen movies that were very good, but suffered from a lack of budget.

My nominees:

1. "The Transformers" I'd like to see this as a "Godzilla vs. Mothra" city-block destroying monster film, not as an Optimus Prime-killing movie set in the future.

2. The Hulk -- Perhaps, in 20 years or so, the concept will be tried again. Next time, hopefully, it will be based on either the comic book or the TV show.

3. George Romero's "The Crazies" The lack of budget really shows here, espicially during really weak action set-pieces, but the concept is great, and the film manages to be poigniant and scary at the same time -- there aren't really any evil people in the movie.

Any other suggestions?

I would like no horror movies to be remade, please. Hollywood needs to come up with their own fucking ideas!

good luck! Hollywood isn't moving in that direction. Just about everything Hollywood makes today is some sort of license... Trying to appeal to a built-in audience to guarantee a minimum return on investment.

I'm usually against the idea of horror remakes, but Rawhead Rex needs one.

I wouldn't want to see a remake to a horror film, I too think Hollywood should come up with their own material. But that aint going to happen for a while, sadly.

Hollywood sucks

Any new horror gets shot down anymore by saying it's "too teen oriented". As if the seventies didn't have hippies in bellbottoms screaming while a chainsaw welding maniac ran after them...

I'd opt for a maximum overdrive re-make.

* Spoiler for Maximum Overdrive made Seventeen years ago...*

Too many non-chalant survivors, and it seemed too brief of an escape from the Dixie Boy to the boat. I'd also let Stephen King do the gore his way, then let him cut it down for the theater, but let us see his true gore that he had to have cut out, like in the original that got thrown away.

Strangeland - I liked pieces and parts, and the general concept/story but the execution sucked

Martin - please don't flame me, but not many people have seen this film and it just might be my favorite Romero film. I think with a budget this movie could be really great

Being bored at work, I thought about this topic further.

What came across my head, I feel most Romero fans/respecters may agree upon.

I feel that Day of the Dead should definately be re-made the way Romero WANTED it to be. His script and story got watered down and tattered away from what he had intended. Give him the funds, and let him do his project, rather than work on the next Dead project when some feel he never quite completed his third step.

Many view this as the "weakest" of the series, and I humbly agree. There's also something about a zombie in a full football player's uniform that just makes me want to slap someone.

Stanly is a spinoff of Willard about a guy who befriends snakes . The Willard remake was awsome.

I wouldn't mind seeing an updating of the Trilogy Of Terror, especially the final tale with Karen Black and the african doll.......
