One of my favorite living directors; aside from Hero (6/10), I love just about all his films. My favs being Raise the Red Lantern (10/10, my favorite movie of his) and To Live (10/10). His films could always have a major effect on me and always make me think more; any of you guys a fan of his work?

I really liked Hero and have been wanting to check out many of Zhang Yimou's other movies for the longest time. I'm 100% certain they will blow me away. I've read enough about them to know without doubt that they will appeal to me. Soon...soon...soon...
I enjoyed Raise the Red Lantern a lot. It moved a bit slowly for my taste, but I ended up liking it quite a bit.

Zhang Yimou's awesome. I loved Hero, although I'll probably love the longer version even more. I've seen most of his movies and I love them all. Raise the Red Lantern should have easily won Best Picture (who remembers Mediterraneo?). My favorite is probably Ju Dou. You want a movie that your eyes will love, pick that one. I also have a great love for The Road Home. Same type of deal, gorgeous movie to watch.
Zhang Yimou is definitely one of the best out there making movies today.

I've seen all of Zhang Yimou's films. They are all major favorites of mine, they are all great. With the exception of the good Keep Cool (7/10) and the ok Not One Less (6/10) which I felt was just a rehash of the great The Story of Qiu Ju.
I even very much love his more overlooked films like Shanghai Triad and Happy Times. Those are just as good and notable as any of Zhang Yimou's filmsbut those ones got pissed on alot by critics.
My favorite of his, though it's hard for me to pick is Raise The Red Lantern.
He is my favorite director and the best one living today.

Since my foreign choice (Jules & Jim) was out tonight, I rented Happy Times. Its premise sounds really strange, but Roger Ebert's review for it piqued my interest.
