I just read The Axe Grinder's "T&A" thread and got thinking about guy nudity in horror.

....one that porno thing that is.

Really, you do make a good point. Maybe you'll get some female horror fans in here to talk about it, or maybe some male fans who have something to say about it.

The only two movies, one horror and one not, that I can think of that feature a peek of cock are Def By Temptation, and Wild Things. If I had to venture a guess as to why women are featured naked more often than men is that our genetalia are hidden--bush and tits are what we have to offer. Men's stuff is less "neat" looking, plus a little earthier because there is nothing to hide.

To paraphrase a wise line from Miss Elaine Bennis:

A woman's body is a true work of art, a well crafted thing of sheer beauty, where as a man is a lot like a sports utility vehicle...
it's good for getting around... but not much else.
Like comparing a Jeep to the Mona Lisa.

But then again, thats my take on it, and I don't speak for the general public, just for myself.

It all seems rather cock and bull from here. Get it? Cock and bull? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA....
*sigh*

Well, I thought it was funny....:(

Males aren't the most attractive concerning their, er, package. However, I like a well-honed male body anyday. Especially the chest, nice legs, tight ass, and LOVE the line of hair creeping down the stomach. *shudders*

If we're speaking of privates only, I don't find the female OR male that attractive there up close.

Here are a few films with male nudity for the ladies:

Bleed

Nomads

Friday the 13th 4

Baise-Moi

Freeway 2 (not very pleasant but there's a long cock shot)

Caligula

Terminator

Titus

28 Days Later...

Ilsa series

Joy Ride

Basket Case

and of course...Boogie Nights (not horror and the dick isn't real but hey, it is a cock shot).

I know you ladies aren't treated fairly when it comes to horror but every now and again a film doesn't discriminate.

We'll women are a work of art. Their beautiful and well crafted while men are hairy. Well personally I'm a guy so I prefer female but you all make good points. Also this isn't horror related but in some cartoon shows like the simpsons and family guy they'll show male nudity but never female. But several men will bare their chests in movies so at least there's something to look at for you ladies.

I had once heard (don't know how true it is) that is has to do with MPAA ratings and external vs. internal genitalia. Ladies pardon my bluntness, it's easier to get away with a little bush shot than having Mr Winky bouncing about.......

A bit of trivia......

Return of the Living Dead - Linnea wore a cover over her nether regions.

Re-Animator - All the male corpses had there genitalia covered so they were not flapping around

I once heard someone say that they didn't show much male nudity in horror flicks because mostly men watch these movies and don't want to see another guys cock. They want T & A and by these directors/producers/actresses (sp?) giving in and doing that quick twat shot or that drawn out shower scene with lots of tit shots more men are going to see these movies.

But WTF it's as if only men watch horror flicks when thats not true...right NightHorrorChick?

I don't think mostly men, but I would definitely say that among hardcore horror fans (ie the Arrow Schmoes) you are going to find mostly men that are horror fans.

The genre itself was founded by overwhelmingly male directors, and has always had a "hetero-male" tone to it because many of it's roots lie in the exploitation phenomena of the early to mid 1900's.

And also, it is scientific fact that men are much more visual creatures (sexually) than females. We like some visual stimulation, whereas females prefer the touch and comfort. I know many females (straight ones) that would much rather see a naked chick on the screen than a naked guy with his kibbles and bits bouncing around...not pleasant.

I believe it was Blossom that once said, "a naked guy is like a half decorated christmas tree"

Kaos

The fact that a women's body is much more attractive than a man's could be a contributing factor. With a women's body you have peaks and valleys, and it's very graceful and beautiful. With a guy, it looks like he has a compass strapped to his waist(I'm not sure if it's pointing north, but you get the idea.)

I was listening to the RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD DVD commentary and the director said he put in the female naked dance for the"male" fans. But when he went to see the film in the theaters, we was surprised to find half of the audience was female. If he knew then what he knew now, he would of put "something" in for the female fans. If you know what I mean ;)

Come on ladies, you and I know that a male penis is not very attractive. I mean yeah, men take pride in their own dicks. They worry about how long it is, and if it looks nice to others around them.

But what I love is the male toosh. Oh baby I wanna get wit ya, and take your picture. My homeboy's trying to warn me but that butt you got makes me so horny...:)

In conclusion: Less tits and more male ass.

Hey, thanks for taking notice about my thread, NightHorrorChick! Anyways, you gals do get some nudity. Check out Re-Animator, which shows a quick peek at Arnold Swartzenegger's stunt double's pecker, or check out The Howling or An American Werewolf In London. The guys show their little wolfies in some instances. And hey, why are you gals looking for penises anyway? Girls are supposed to be more cerebral than guys. You gals don't go around wanting to check out our members, or do you ? If you want my opinion on this: horror movies have almost always been targeted at men, so they have more women show their stuff more than guys. What the industry needs to do is to have an equality talk about horror movies or something. Then this problem will hopefully be solved.

I can`t really agree on that horror is more of a guy genre.... As I look around me, I see that there are much more girls who are interested in horror than guys (or in Estonia atleast).....In cinemas, there are much more chicks whatching horror and when a horror movie trailer comes on I always hear girls talking stuff like..... "ohh, that looks cool" and "you gotta take me to see that".... And in my place. My sister used to gather her friends (about 10 people and all of them girls) and whatch Elm Street movies or something like that. And while girls are interested in horror, almost none of my friends can stand horror movies. They like cars and girls and stuff like that, but have no interest in horror. It`s actually kinda surreal to find out that in the internet, there seem to be more of the male horror fans.

On the cock point, I agree with most people on this thread (though I`m a guy and not a gey). I always hope that world gets more open minded on the nudity subject. Though I`m kinda between sides on the case of youngsters seeing horror movies, I totally, 100% think that there should be no age limit on porn and sex related stuff. And I think normal movies should start blending with porn..... It`s just weird how camera moves away, or how people hide their bodies in movies when they are nude or having sex, while at the same time show graphicly how some guy`s brains are blown out....It`s proved many times by scientists that when parents and other people try to hide all that sex stuff from children, they just get more interested in it and that`s where all the sexual perversions come from......

Wait, I started yambling on a totally different subject....never mind. Anywho, I don`t have anything against male genitalia in movies.

I see no problem with throwing more male nudity into any genre, horror or otherwise. The ladies should get something, just look at The Arrow's own reviews. He doesn't just mention what the fellas get, he also includes whatever the ladies might enjoy (which, if you notice, is usually just guys with their shirts off or something along those lines. Hardly seems adaquate compensation for the full-frontal female nudity that happens often.)

So yeah, I say more male nudity. If it's what the women want, then give it to 'em! But just don't forget about us men too ;) Keep it all good and equal.

Lady Summerisle

Last night I happened to watch NOMADS, and remarked how sexy the last shot of Pierce Brosnan on a motorcycle was paralleled to his excellent nude scene.

My theory: Filmmakers ignore the sexual desires to see nudity in lieu of ta-tas because horror as a genre is not female centered. However, John Dahl was kind enough to let us spy on Steve"Yummy" Zahn in JOYRIDE. They seem to be getting wise in the game to our need to see naked men.

While I appreciate a fine woman because I am bi-sexual, men are not ignored. Men should be proud of their bodies. Hell, Harvey Kietel can do it and he is butt ugly. Why not have Thom Mathews strip instead of Linnea?

, and LOVE the line of hair creeping down the stomach. *shudders*

"So yeah, I say more male nudity. If it's what the women want, then give it to 'em! But just don't forget about us men too Keep it all good and equal."

The only horror films that I can think that is EQUAL is:

Friday the 13Th part 4(both men and women swimming nude)
and the Puppet Master 2(A chest shot of a female before she is killed, a BUTT shot of lead male)

But as far as being EQUAL If this was a female run Business
it would be the other way around.

when I think about it in all movies, it's hard to think of any movie that has a male that has NO major part ,or even a Name in the film that has nudity here as it's a lot more common just have random parts with females that are nude.

the only one I can think of is in "Drop dead fred"where a male is wearing only a toga and pair of sandles serving wine at party and loses his Toga.

and it also seems like when there is male nudity it is only in a Embarassment scene
The type of movie that has the most nudity(other than pron) is comedy
often as a flashing part or other
One movie that I can think off the top of my head is "bachelor Party" were its has a female that goes topless and the "bad Guy" is hung out a hotel window nude.

Btw did some one say Return of the Living DEAD???

Well, I wasn't one of the guys who said that but I would like to comment on it. The reason a lot of guys say it is because they don't want others thinking they're gay. It's not like we'd point it out or make fun of them but many guys believe that unless it's said, we don't really know. It's more a psychological thing. I used to do it but I decided that it really doesn't matter what others think, I know I'm straight so who cares if others think I'm gay. It really doesn't bother me, the only thing that bothers me is when someone uses the term "gay" as an insult. Like it's some fucking crime to be a homosexual male. I support the gay/lesbian community and think it's completely disrespectful to use the term gay against someone.

i dunno...a penis usually looks pretty streamlined to me. unless there's something wrong, in which case it's a penis that i want nothing to do with. *teeheehee*

i know what you mean. even though the female body is usually more curvey than the male, that doesn't necessarily make it more appealing either. but i know where your opinion is coming from - if you were a straight guy who found the male body more appealing than the female, i'd think there was something wrong. it's a matter of preference and point of view is all.

seriously. when i saw "28 days later" and they first show the dude naked, a good portion of people in the theatre started giggling. granted, i saw the movie in burbank where the audiences are notoriously idiotic, but that kind of reaction is just dumb.

Movies are basiclly made by men, therefore you see more female body parts.

Interesting. When I watched it at Ottawa in a theater and his nude scene came along a heard a few awkward noises from maybe 5 people in the audience then dead silence in theater (of course the dead silence was because nobody talked during the movie and the scene had no sound).

Nudity be it Female or Male usually doesn't phase me during a horror movie. When I start watching a horror movie Im in "Killing" mode. All I want to see is lots of blood and violence. So usually when I see naked people I think "Well there goes her, or him". Now if Im watching a porno then seeing nudity will excite me, but usually not in horror movies.

However Male nudity makes me uncomfortable. Im very confident in my sexuality, but me and my roomates often watch horror movies together, and I feel weird watching scenes with male nudity. I guess its because you rarely see male nudity and it still seems forbidden, unlike female nudity which is so common that now it seem okay to watch it. Maybe the more male nudity there is the more comfortable we'll all seem with it. Im all for equal nudity because just because you see a naked guy and dont turn away or act grossed out doesnt mean your GAY.

I'm happy that you dont care what people think, and I wish other people would think that way. I am infact GAY but I still use the word "gay" as an insult. I'm so used to it. All my friends do to. I really don't mind. I find it kinda funny. I don't take anything seriously, its a shame that some people would. If using the word "gay" makes me a hypocrite, then I am. At least I admit it. But I dont wan't this discussion to turn into a "gay" themed convo, because it will get closed.

I personally have no problem with male nudity but it seems that alot of guys are uncomfortable with it because they feel that if people see them watching the screen when a naked guy is on it, the person will think they're gay or something. For example, I went to see 28 Days Later with 2 friends, one was a guy, one was a girl. My friend, the guy, decided that he would hide his eyes from the screen at the beginning in the hopital. Apparently he was embarrased seeing a guy's penis on screen with a girl and he didn't want to seem gay. I think that it's kind of wierd that people aren't comfortable with the human body, the thing that should be the most comfortable thing to people.

So bring on the male nudity, just keep it equal.

I saw 28 Days Later in Costa Mesa on the night it came out. On the second shot of "Mr. Happy" someone said "This movie IS scary".... the whole theater started laughing.

Let's face it when you get a theater full of people and some of them are 17 (and younger) any scene with with a crotch shot is gonna embarass some people. The right joke with the right timing is gonna be pretty funny

Thank God someone here can come out without feeling shy. Good for you bro, some of my friends are gay or lesbian and they're too afraid to walk through the closet door. I can understand why though, even though there are many who accept gay people there are still way too many that don't.

Using "gay" as an insult. It doesn't make YOU a hypocrite, it's like African Americans using the term "nigger" (don't mean to offend, just using as an example). Also, if you're cool with it than that's what counts. The reason I don't like it when others use it is because if there is a gay individual around they might get hurt. If the person doesn't care than that's cool with me. Oh and you're right, I guess we should stick to the topic at hand, lol.

uuhhhhh......one question. WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO THE ACTUAL TOPIC OF THIS THREAD?? all i know is that the idea of the post is that women get cheated in horror movies because there isn't alot of male nudity. which is true. i don't know why this thread turned into talk of gay/lesbian, not gay/lesbian, using gay as an insult, hairy blow jobs, happy trails....who knows. i'm not saying that's a bad thing....i actually find it kinda funny. which brings me to my points:

1) the female body (most of the time) is much more aesthetic and easier on the eyes. even my female friends (and heterosexuals as well) agree that they would rather see a nude female body on screen then some hairy guy with his schwanson hanging out. i guess most horror filmmakers agree as well. sorry, ladies. you wanna see cock.....rent "The Crying Game". Keep in mind as well...that if they started putting more male nudity in movies, i would be fine with that. after all....it's only fair. but like i said....the female body is much nicer to look at.

2) hairy blow jobs? jeez....i think that unless you were giving a blow job to bigfoot, hair in the mouth shouldn't be that big of a problem.

3) should this thread be turning me on? WHO SAID THAT!!

I spoke about this topic(the actual one, not the tangent it's gone off on) with a very good female friend of mine. She felt that while horror movies are known for large amounts of naked bodies in them, she has also felt that it favors the male over the female(to which I said "Duh!"). She felt this could be changed in one of two ways. 1. Since there's so much shown anyway, just show everything, this way no one gets cheated, of course this would lead to horror becomming more like a porno movie(this would NOT be a good thing, keep the genres seperate!) B. Show nothing, if the girls aren't getting good shots, then neither should the guys. I admit she felt the extremes were the best way to go and that I'll get a lot of interesting responses, I also wanted to get this thread back on topic.

Right, now that that has been settled we can get back to the topic at hand... ummm... does anyone remember the bloody topic? I got lost on a tangent...

Oh yes, now I remember. However this also begs the question: Is nudity needed? While any hot-blooded guy(or girl for that matter) would enjoy a peek(for the most part), I don't believe that, if the plot and acting are strong(a rarity in the horror genre) naked parts wondering around on the screen are necessary. Even Arrow has said in the T&A section of some of his reviews(ex. Frailty, Unbreakable, and The Vanishing) that no nudity was in the movie, nor was any needed. So, what about it, any thoughts?

Draven2277
07-25-2003, 01:30 AM
I think that nudity was put in these slasher movies (Friday the 13th movies are a perfect example) for a reason. That purpose was to persuade teens to not be sexually promiscuous. being sexually active and showing your breasts would attract hockey mask wearing machete wielding drowning victims who are on a killing spree. it's kinda like "Reefer Madness", that really old short that was a feeble attempt at "scaring" people into not smoking pot. instead it turned out to be more of a comedy because potheads didn't give a shit. Maybe Friday the 13th movies should change their names to "Titty Madness". that could work. remember schmoes...NO GETTING NAKED AT SUMMER CAMPS!!!

What is the ratio of guy to girl horror fans?
That will probably explain the nudity gap between male/female.

While, I'm not sure of the exact ratio, that have always been more male than female horror fans, however in recent years that margin has narrowed considerably. Many females have expressed an intrest in the horror genre than ever before, and not just because their boyfriends like the movies. I've met a number of females whose knowledge of the genre has equaled and in some cases surpassed my own. I fact a couple of them are regular posters on this board! Filmmakers might want to take this into account when producing their films. There is a large and vastly untapped female market in the horror genre, and the producers who realize this, and produce a good film, will likely see a huge increase in their profits.

I do think there are considerably more females that appreciate the horror genre than one might initially guess, but I would postulate that the number of male fans still far outweighs the females.

Sorry... but the horror genre is predominantly catered to males. The romantic comedy genre panders to females. Just the way it goes.

More male viewers = more female nudity = more profits

Simple formula. Sorry ladies... but there are more of us that like horror. Not saying it is right, wrong, or whatever. Just stating the obvious.

And besides... if you really want nudity... go rent/buy a porn. Nudity does not equal scary. And after all, isn't that what a horror movie is all about?
