I just picked up this movie on dvd a few days ago and gave it a whirl with my mates and I was really really entertained the whole entire time. The filmmakers made a great light hearted movie that never took itself seriously yet managed to make me laugh, get teary, as well as a ton of oooooo's and ahhhhhhh's. The storyline is about a bunch of kung fu masters who form a soccer team yet there is much more than that... but I don't want to ruin it for yah. So if you find the prospect of supernatural type kung fu taking place while playing soccer neat-o then this movie is for you.
Oh disney is releasing this here in america in a few months but it's poorly dubbed as well as being cut by twenty minutes so I say fuck the Disney version check out the original.

I have an extended version on DVD. I read some cool things about how entertaining it was and proceeded to buy it along with about ten other movies during one of my frequent trawls of online Hong Kong DVD stores. I watched it with one of my friends on a Friday night over a few cold ones and the two of us busted some ribs we were laughing so hard. It's very, very funny and the special effects work is stunning. I keep meaning to check out some more Stephen Chow movies but haven't as yet managed to do so.

I saw it last year as well; a friend of mine had it on DVD. It really is a cool movie. Looking forward to seeing it in the theatre.

Fun movie, although a little too predictable in a 'happy ending' way.
I'm not sure what has been changed for the American release, although I have the feeling that it's not for the better.

I bought the DVD as a blind buy after reading several reviews and viewer's commentaries, all of which gave it good reviews. I wasn't disappointed at all and liked liked the soccer scenes, especially the scene at the end.
PS: I'm sure that the Americanized version will be so butchered and bastardized that hardly anything will remain of the original. Do yourself a favor and see the original.

I saw this one in the theaters and then bought the DVD. It's a little masterpiece if you ask me -- I've seen it three times and I've laughed through all of those viewings. It's comedy at its best if you ask me.

Miramax completely butchered the movie. I haven't seen that version (nor do I want to, mind you) but judging by their track record, I say avoid that version at all costs. Not that it's much of a consolation, but Mr. Chow did his own dubbing. I'm guessing all the scenes with him and Zhao Wei were cut. It's a shame Miramax had to get those rights. At least they'll never touch another Stephen Chow movie ever again.
I saw Shaolin Soccer back in January and I laughed my ass off. If you guys like that one, I really recommend seeing Stephen Chow's other movies. Start with From Beijing with Love or the Fight Back to School series. It's typical Stephen Chow. My favorite of his his The God of Cookery.
I really loved Shaolin Soccer, though. Very funny and very original. It's a sweet movie with a lot of heart.

I usually don't get excited about foreign films, but this one seems to be a hit. I will surely have to checl this one out. It looks funny.
