Dunno why I keep starting these threads as they seem to disappear faster than a shaved and greased monkey can slip through a deviants hands. I recently came to own two of Tanya Donnelly's solo albums. Namely 'Beautysleep' and 'Love Songs For Underdogs'. Wow. They are magnificent. I was/am a fan of both The Throwing Muses and Belly (The Real Ramona by the former is one of the finest albums of the nineties and likewise Star by the latter) but I thought that Belly's second album was a huge disappointment and pretty much wrote off Donnelly as a songwriter as a result. I take it all back. Both of the aforementioned solo albums are masterpieces full of too many moments of breathtaking beauty to list. I am sooo fucking glad I now count these albums among my collection. If you are a fan of either The Throwing Muses or Belly then I urge you to give them a shot if you haven't already.

Oh...and am I alone in thinking that Tanya Donnelly is stunningly pretty?

One N.

Also, while King gets a bad rap, it still contains a number of amazingly good songs. Not the least of which is "Now They'll Sleep" - one of the most brilliant pop/rock songs ever written. But also "Seal My Fate", "Super-Connected" "The Bees" and "Judas My Heart". Not to mention amazing King B-sides like "Thief" "Spaceman" and (*ahem*) "John Dark."

As for the solo albums, I like Lovesongs a little bit better, but they are both great. Especially awesome is Mark Sandman's last recorded vocal bit ever on "Moonbeam Monkey".

Lovesongs: 9.6
Beautysleep: 8.2
Star: 10.0
King: 8.4

I'm gonna have to give King another shot. It's been a long, long time since I last heard it (around the time of it's release). A reappraisal is warranted methinks.

A question. Are you also a Throwing Muses fan? Have you heard their recent album? How does it compare with The Real Ramona? I'll admit that The Real Ramona is the only Throwing Muses album i've listened to at length (it pretty much soundtracked an entire year of my life). I've heard their other albums but none of them stuck with me the way The Real Ramona did. I still listen to it frequently even today and recently had to buy a CD copy as I had finally worn out the cassette I bought way back in 1991.

Very much so.

Not as poppy. Harder, faster. The new album is odd - I can hear bits of every single previous Muses album in it, from the s/t to Limbo.
