Due to my location, I do not have the chance to see many independent films, but these are ones that seem to be getting a lot of buzz right now ---

Garage Days - "Acclaimed director Alex Proyas (DARK CITY, THE CROW) puts his visionary spin on the story of an Australian garage band that is willing to do just about anything to make it to the top - or at least a stage. Through a comic chain of events involving blackmail and brute force, the band begins to realize that real life sometimes has even more stomach-turning drops and g-force than the rock 'n' roll roller coaster they've been waiting to get on."

The Eye - "At the age of two, Mun went blind. Eighteen years later, a new and risky coreal transplant operation restores her vision; but a series of inexplicable events lead her to believe there is more than meets the eye to her new-found gift of sight. Mysterious black-clad figures seem to foreshadow sudden deaths, and horribly disfigured denizens haunt her everyday existence. Unable to define her own identity, she comes to understand that whenever she looks into a mirror she doesn't see herself but instead she sees another woman: Ling, the original owner of the corneas. These nightmarish visions are driving Mun insane. Desperate to uncover the truth, Mun visits Ling's old village in Northern Thailand. It seems that Mun has inherited Ling's fate and the misery that comes with the ability to see more than one wants to see. Is her fate predetermined or does she have the courage and the strength to change the future?"

Dirty Pretty Things - "From Stephen Frears, the Oscar®-nominated director of “The Grifters” and “Dangerous Liaisons”, comes a new film set in London’s secret underworld, where everything is for sale. It’s the story of a young man, Okwe (Chiwetel Ejiofor) and a Turkish chambermaid, Senay (Audrey Tautou), who work at the same West London hotel--a breeding ground for illegal activity. They are put to the test when Okwe makes a shocking discovery late one night."

This last one isn't quite out yet (August 1st), but is rumored to be very, very good....

The Magdalene Sisters - "Ireland in the sixties: Four women are given into the custody of the Madgalene sisterhoood asylum to correct their more or less sinful behaviour: Crispina and Rose have given birth to a pre-marriage child, Margaret got raped by her cousin and the orphan Bernadette had been repeatedly caught flirting with the boys. All have to work in a laundry under the strict supervision of the nuns, who break their wills through sadistic punishments. Some of the inmates develop countermeasures, while others perish under the treatment."

Not Fat Pizza...
That movie just plays on the australian wog stereotype for the whole film. Funny for a while, but then you realise it is the same jokes over and over

I agree. Instead, see..

Bad Eggs - Aussie film from debut writer/director. Spot the (repeated) technical mistake, but enjoy the dark comedy.
