This was a REALLY good follow-up to the original. I was really impressed. Too bad part 3 created several plot holes... PSYCHO IV is good, but that also had a lot of plot holes. Didn't they have a technical advisor at all?

This belated sequel was better than I thought it would be. And I agree; the twist ending thumped my psyche. The Fulci-esque gore sticks out like a sore thumb, though. A knife protruding out of the mouth? Well, at least it looked cool. I even dug Psycho III in spite of Jeff Fahey’s bizarre sex scene.

The enjoyed the entire Psycho series. Psycho 2 actually is my favorite movie in the series with the original a close second. I enjoyed the ending of part 2 best of all. I know part 3 is weak at points but I was able to find some redeeming qualities in the movie. Part 4 was good as closer to the series. I read on another site that part 5 was in the "serious talk stage"with a new slightly younger actor set to play Norman. I really hope that it isn't going to be done. I found the remake of Psycho bad enough:(

Uhhhhhhh... Count Chocula?
You got parts of PSYCHO II and PSYCHO III mixed up. PSYCHO III had Jeff Fahey in it, my friend.

I didn't like this one all that much
Yeah, I guess I have to say the ending isn't at all bad, but all in all, it didn't make an impression on me

Ain't that what he said?
Anywho, yeah, "Psycho II" is a surprisingly good sequel, though far from the quality of the Hitch's original. I agree with the Count that the explicit grue was a bit distracting. Still, nicely ghoulish ending, as gamecube mentioned.

OOPS! Sorry, Count! I misread it!

This is the first horror movie I ever saw in the theaters, so I do have a soft spot for it. Non-jaded by anything at this point, this movie scared the 15 year old shit out of me and I had to sleep with the lights on. Having seen lots more gore and scares since, I kind of miss the freaked out feeling that you get during your first exposure to non editted for t.v. horror.

What surprised me even more was that part III was quite cool as well but treads more into the slasher zone than the first two. The original is arguably the first slasher film but I see it more as a psychological thriller. The second one has some slasher moments but is also more a psychological thriller. Haven't seen part II in ages, I'll go rent the series soon.

Okay, this post will contain spoilers for the uninitiated vieewers of "Psycho 2"
--------------------------------------WARNING! SPOILERS AHEAD!!-----------------
In the movie, it is revealed that the snotty woman who wante Norman back in Jail was hiding out in his house and trying to freak him out. Yet, it is suggested that someone else may be do so to and actually killing people (and, of course people die, as well as the snotty woman, who's murderer I had suspected before was Norman (dressed up as his mother) finally getting fed up and doing something about it. At the end, it is hinted that his real, natural mother who finally catches up with Norman, was the "other person" trying to freak out Norman and actually killing people while at it. Was she really the killer?

Spoilers....
I think she was really the killer of Psycho II, because Lila Crane (the snotty woman) was only bent on making Norman look crazy again to get him locked up. Also, there were times when Lila and/or her daughter had Norman "detained" (locked in the attic, I believe once) when murders were committed, showing that someone else was actually doing the killing.

PSYCHO II (1983) Directed by Richard Franklin (ROAD GAMES). 23 years after Norman Bates (the great Anthony Perkins) was committed to a psychiatric hospital for murdering several people (including bloodbath victim Janet Leigh), he is released, and returns to his old stomping grounds: the Bates Motel and creepy ancestral estate. Several murders ensue, as Part One survivor Lila Crane Loomis (again played by Vera Miles) and her daughter Mary (Meg Tilly, who also serves as Norman's reluctant love interest) scheme to drive the poor guy insane via several gaslighting incidents. Dennis Franz and Robert Loggia shine in supporting roles as a drunken motel manager and Norman's psychiatrist, respectively. There are twists and turns abound, as well as unintentional humor. A great whodunit, with a slam-bang twist ending. My grade: B+

PSYCHO 2 is, in my opinion, one of the best horror sequels of all time. It's got a clever script, great performances and it's very suspenseful. I didn't like PSYCHO 3 much - but I intend to watch it again soon and see if I enjoy it more this time. PSYCHO 4 was pretty good - a nice view into Norman's younger life.
I'm not as opposed to a PSYCHO 5 as most people are - the book PSYCHO has never been faithfully adapted into a movie (the Hitchock movie was fantastic - but it wasn't much like the book), so there is still a wealth of material to put into a new movie. I wouldn't mind seeing a younger actor play a younger Norman - it could be interesting.

Looks like I need to be renting both Psycho 2 and 3 soon. Interestingly enough I read the book Psycho 2 (or most of it anyway) and the plot was completely different. Isn't there a psycho 4? Thoughts on that one?

Yes, Block's "Psycho 2" is completely different. Norman is just sort of a serial killer in that book, the whole mother thing is left on the periphery. I love Block's short fiction, but I didn't really care for either of his "Psycho" books. I haven't read "Psycho House" yet.

I havent read his short stories but I do recommend Lori and The Kidnapper. both pretty good flicks. Didnt he also write some sort of Jack the ripper story? For some reason Im thinking I read something called the Ripper by him.

He wrote a book called NIGHT OF THE RIPPER. It's on my shelf but I haven't read it yet.
I loved his book PSYCHO, but I find his prose a little annoying in his other books and stories. He plays around with words in a way that distracts from the story.

I've read that one. It's a good story. A short, sharp shock with a good ending.

Yes. He can be very witty.
But sometimes he plays around with words too much. When I read a story I want to feel what's happening, I don't want to be constantly reminded that it's made up of words on a page.
Using too many tricky sentences makes it very hard for the reader to forget he's reading a book.

Ah yes, the name of the book sounds familar - I HAVE read it; I just can't remember details unless someone refreshes this dried out, mummified memory of mine.

SPOILERS FOR PSYCHO II
THE DREAM WARRIORS, 28 Weeks Later... Psycho II. These are sequels that just fucking nail it. Entries that you shouldn't be ashamed to have in your franchise.
I absolutely loved this movie. I rated it even higher than I did the original, which I also spoke very highly of. I mean you think Hitchcock's version can't be touched and that a sequel released 23 years later after the originator had already been deceased would devoid this effort of any suspense or innovation. At least that's what I thought. I'm glad I was wrong. It's evident that there was actual care in the making of Psycho II and NOT just a quick cash in on the sudden slasher explosion that had taken the 80's by storm.
The story was truly gripping. Of course I had just assumed that Norman was up to his old ways again but halfway through I was left confused. You know what? I'm glad it kept me guessing. Just like the original... would have had not everyone and their mother already known the ending by the time I saw it.
One of my favorite parts is when Norman fires Warren from the motel. That's what I like about Norman. He's not a bad man. At least he doesn't want to be and might not even be aware he is. I love the way Perkins portrays the character as just the good ole boy, and he won't have any kind of smut in his establishment.
Then there is Meg Tilly as Mary Samuels. I fell in love with her. Seriously. I didn't even know she was Jeniffer Tilly's sister. She plays the little devil who realizes the error of her ways and attempts to rectify the situation superbly.
The idea of Lila Loomis trying to make Norman appear mad was an interesting arch revealed halfway through the film. However, remembering the way she acted the last time we saw her makes me crack up. At the end of the original Psycho when she was told of her sister's murder she didn't even seem to bat an eye. Now we have to believe that she concocted this elaborate scheme for revenge. Heh heh.
Things really start getting good near the finale and one scene which will probably stick out in my mind for a while is when Norman tries to take the knife away from Mary. As he grabs it from her with by the blade with both hands she quickly yanks it away. Ole Normie doesn't even flinch! Cool.
This film was very respectful to the original and gave us something new while not going too overboard and I respect if for that. One thing that I didn't like, which the third entry rectified was when it was announced that the woman Norman thought was his mother all these years was really his aunt. Norma NEEDS to be Norman's mother. That should not have been mettled with, but I'm glad Psycho III established that was false.
Psycho II - 10/10
Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

Also very good. Gotta admire how the Psycho franchise with Perkins was really one of the best and most underrated horror series...:D

I enjoyed Pyscho 2. Its a good mystery/horror flick. I really dont like the other Pyscho films at all though.
This one was written by Tom Holland. He had a decent run in the 80's.
