Well, that's quite the varied group who has received that award. And what exactly is it that Heston did that made him eligable for such an award? Because its not listed in the article...

Was it for being an actor? For being president of the NRA? For being 79? Or was there just no one else they could give it to?

I think I recall hearing that he did some work for civil rights during the 60s as well as some other political woek (not counting the NRA), but as everyone's already pointed out, the article is vague as to why he's receiving the award.
