For the longest time i was buying DVD's left & right, but the thing that is turning me off to buying DVD's that i love. Because the company's sit there and release a DVD with no fucking "Special Features", then a year later they will come out with Surprise! A SE edition of the same fucking movie with special features that should have been on the first edition. I don't know about most of you guys, but I am a simple middle class person that no matter how much i love movies i can't fucking afford to buy a move twice. How about you guys?
A good Example is T2 how many of thoughs fuckers have come out!

It's starting to get on my nerves, I had heard that news that 20th Century Fox will release a Five Star version of "SPEED" when I just got the bare bones DVD earlier this year!!! http://www.joblo.com/ubb/mad.gif why can't they just put all the extra's in the first release? do they want to make more money out of the consumers? what the hell is there problem???
You have to bear in mind that, as a format, DVD is very much in it's infancy. At this stage studios want to release many of their back catalogue titles, films forwhich there may not be a lot of extra material available.
This is why we get bare bones dvd's, these allow studios to test the water and see if it is worth spending the money to produce an SE. I only buy what I believe to be definitve editions of films and have only ever replaced one DVD (almost famous).
The bottom line; if you don't like bare bones dvd's don't buy them, most big films will get SE's at some point so it is worth waiting.

Just a complete guess: Since most fans get pissed when it takes so long to release a film on DVD, they release a shit version to hold them over, while they gather extras to add to a Special Edititon.

apparantly Criterion aren't anything to do with studios they simply buy the rights to films and then get loads of shit for them.
