is any1 scared 2 see a horror movie, not because u think it will b 2 scary, but because your afraid it will be to graphic. here r the movies that im afraid 2 c because of gore reasons:
the 4 zombie movies (i think there are 4)
zombie holocaust
cannibal holocaust
although im afraid 2c these movies, i did c the unrated version of dead alive. what movies r u afraid 2 c.
Just Cannibal Holocaust. Knowing a movie like this exist, I find Jason, Freddy and Michael's movies "soft". If it wasn't for the real animal killings, I would watch this. I hope the director gets ram by a moose, stomp by an elphant, and finally tear apart and eaten by packs of lions.

Wait, they really killed animals to make this movie...?
I hate people like that.

I heard that the only thing they killed was a turtle or something. And these people were going to kill and eat it anyway, so they decided to film it. Still, that does disturb me a bit.
I'm afraid to watch I Spit On Your Grave. As much as I want to see it, and I might probably will anyways, the whole 40-minute rape scene and a nasty little revenge I heard about involving... well, I'll leave that to your imagination.
Plus, I don't think I'd ever be interesting in the Faces/Traces/ of Death movies, or anything like that. Not even curious enough.

1) anything with "real" violence in it ("faces of death," "cannibal holocaust," "men behind the sun," etc.)
2) "ringu"
in general, it seems like the movies i think are gonna freak me out, don't ("tell me something"), and the ones i have no opinion about scare the crapola out of me ("the ring").

"Glitter" starring Mariah Carey.
BTW, "Faces Of Death" is notoriously fake.
"TRACES Of Death" is real though, and in my book that isn`t entertainment it`s depravity akin to child pornography.

True, and I think that's why FoD, or at least the first one, is so entertaining, because of the obviousness of the fakery. Of course, I'm working from memory; I haven't seen it since I was 16 or so.

Oh buddy, the "fakery" is VERY VERY obvious! In fact I suggest you watch it again with some beer and some smartass buddies, you`ll have a BLAST I promise you.
It really is laughably fake (except for the animal/slaughterhouse stuff, which is just disgusting).
The "tourist attacked by bear" scene is laugh-out-loud funny IMO. Notice you never actually SEE anything happen (and it`s the same way in many of the clips).

I was kinda edgy about watching "Cannibal Holocaust" but curiosity got the better of me and I just HAD to watch it. :D Wasn't bad at ALL.
And "I Spit On Your Grave"...well, don't get me STARTED on how tame that is. ;)

I can watch just about anything, but only once have I been able to watch cannibal holocaust or anything really disturbing like that. Other than that I haven't been able to watch it again. Mainly cause those movies just make me cringe and shudder now. But I will say this, least they had that affect on me, nothing else could do that...

I was too, but ... erm, it's much different than I was expecting. There's some harsh stuff, but the whole movie is peppered with this goofy slapstick that completely sabotaged the rest of the movie for me. I was more baffled than disturbed.

LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT and THE HILLS HAVE EYES.
Up until a few years ago, I had always avoided THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE, but upon finally seeing it, the cult classic became pretty much the scariest/most disturbing film I have ever seen.

Never saw any of those movies (and I will NEVER). But from what I know, Cannibal Holocaust has REAL animal killings in it, and from what I read in the reviews, they killed a rat, and de-shelled (this part piss me off) a living turtle.
As for the Faces of Death series, it’s really just a documentary on different kinds of death (if you enjoy it, you’re sick). I don’t know rather if they’re simulated or real, but either way, I won’t watch it because I just can’t stand watching people die for an hour and a half.

Actually the rape scene is nearly 50min long and the best reason not to watch this movie is that you'll be asking yourself why you wasted your time. It's a horrible movie. Very un-realistic, moves at a snails pace and the acting is laughable.
I love Last House on the left The 70's vibe, the sappy-yet-cheesy music and the emotional rollercoaster thru-out the film...a perfect blend of terror and humor, oh and some pretty good gore.

I completely agree with you there! I've got this huge fear of the dentist and I saw those two movies in the store the other day and shuddered. No way in hell am I ever going to watch those two flicks.
I've seen the faces of death movies though...My ex was obsessed with em. Didn't think they were too bad. Although after the chicken slaughter house....well I had a little bit of a hard time eating chicken nuggets from McDonald's for a while.

Actually I have a question about the "Weekend At Bernies" movies:
Wouldn`t 'Bernie' be decomposing by the time Part 2 happened?
Now THAT would be a funny movie!
They should make "Weekend At Bernies III" where the two guys are trying to pass-off his rotting, decomposing body as alive!

I was thinking of re renting this after all these years, but I don't think I will now. It's not the fact that the 50 min rape scene would be incredibly disturbing for me to watch, it's just that it only leaves what.... 40 minutes of actual "movie"? Bleh, I think I'll take a pass.
As for the FACES/TRACES OF DEATH movies, I had a morbid curiosity to see them when I was a kid. That stuff just doesn't interest me anymore and I find it in bad taste, so I wont be seeing these either.
I'm with Erin though on the dentist thing. I also hate dentists, mine wanted to pull my wisdom teeth a few years ago. "Uh, yeah I'll get back to you." Yeah right!;) I haven't had nary a problem with them since, evil bastards! Just out to make a buck.:D As far as the movie goes, I'm undecided.
I think the word Xipe Totec was searching for was "drill". If I saw them pull an auger out, that would definately send me screaming from the room. Damn, that's what you take ice fishing to bore out your holes!

Alright, concerning the movie "I spit..." I watched it when I was 14 or 15. Yes, that young =) At my boyfriends. I didn't findanything that horrifying about it then; and if I didnt that long ago I most likely wouldn't now. I remember mainly being..well, bored. I don't recall the rape scene being 50 minutes, but who knows? It very well could be.
As for last house on the left it has been years. I remember enjoying it though. I need to buy it and refresh my memory (completely) on it. I only remember a select few images, and I dont even remember the parent's revenge everyone is speaking of.
Why the hell did I see all the controversial movies as a wee one and none now? =)
Cellar Door, yeah Strangeland. I did not dig this movie. It was...stupid. Not to mention just sick. No interest here whatsoever.
Glad to see other schmoes sharing my fear of dentists. I remember reading on Silence of the Lambs that the costume designer originally wanted Hopkins in Orange but he changed it to white, based on his fear of dentists, for a more clinical look. Works!!
Oh - I can't avoid them anymore. Once I get insurance again I need to get extensive work done  No way in hell would the dental torture movies help. I don't see how anyone who has ever had a bad toothache could watch that stuff.

I am curious to see I Spit on Your Grave but none of my local videostores carry it, I would be forced to buy it. Yes, it's very long, slow and drawn out, goes on for most of the film. Then the rest of the film is her having sex with them AGAIN just to kill them, oh, I mean get her revenge. Ah, what realism.

I own both Cannibal Holocaust and Salo - 120 of Sodom.
The first time you watch either you sit there thinking "oh my God! What the fuck did I just watch??".
I will say that I have never watched the animal killings in CH. I can't. But I've seen enough of what leads up to them to know that it is traumatizing. I love animals and the last thing I can take is to watch them hurt or killed.
Salo is beyond the point of shocking the first time you watch it. Then, upon a second viewing I guess I kind of got used to it because you knew what was coming.
I've watched both a couple of times since and while the violence and debauchery is still just as horrible, you don't really mind it as much and can enjoy the movie more.
I will probably get Man Behind the Sun one day. I'm really curious about that one. It's the one I'm most afraid of watching, which means it's a challenge and I can never back away from a challenge!!

The rape scene doesn't FEEL long. It IS long. Forty-five minutes, to be precise. It's a despicable, appalling movie in every single way.
I can't think of a single reason to watch I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE. It's probably the only movie I wish I could erase from my mind. It's not scary, it's just offensive, repulsive and badly-made.

Welll as I always say, different people are scared by different films; so of course it's different on what will disturb who. I found Henry disturbing but not everyone did. The bst thing to do is find the facts about these movies before watching them and see if it sounds like something you're dead set against. Or just watch them -- if you find it too bad for you turn it off. Or else watch the whole thing, and then shut it off and never see it again. You never know unless you find out more about the film because everyones so different on what sets them off.

Yet another horror fanatic mortified by the dentist here. Two good reasons why I hate them: 1) I am just paranoid about everything and my incompacitiation next to sharp objects is something that falls in that range. 2) I can't pay dentist bills! They are expensive and I do not have that kind of money!

"August Underground" sounds awfully similar to both the German film "Funny Games" and also "Man Bites Dog" (I think it`s called).

08-07-2003, 09:46 PM
I loved August Underground! What a sick and deranged movie! Anways I've seen the movies repeatedly mentioned here. The only real one I totally admit should be avoided if you are the slightest bit sensitive is Men Behind the Sun. That's one that will eat at your brain like a mutant earwig. Salo is pretty foul too but my wife laughed at parts.
I used to be easily freaked out at the mere mention of stuff like Faces of Death until I crossed the threshold. I guess I just got to a point where I didn't want a simple mere movie to have some kind of power over me. I was afraid of Faces of death for years and I'll tell ya, once I did it I realized most of the times our imaginations of what something might be like is usually far beyond the reality of it.
I do watch all the real death movies I can get my hands on but in my own defense I don't watch them for enjoyment. I don't snicker and laugh at people with crushed heads and such. I guess the main reason is to confront the extreme and come out of it unscathed. Just like the people that subject themselves to eating hot peppers. You get a little kick out of knowing you just did something (and handled it) that most people could never do.
And give Cannibal Holocaust a try. It's not the only cannibal movie with animal killings, or more appropriately, slaughters since they weren't killed for kicks. They were killed for food and actually eaten. I guess I don't find that sort of thing offensive.

So, "Men Behind the Sun" is worse than "August Underground"? Maybe I'll put that back at the top of my list. BTW, AU has a sequel called "August Underground's Mordum." It's apparently even more hellacious that the first.
Also, no one's mentioned "Irreversible" yet. So I will. It'll probably be the first out of all the others on my list I'll see. I have less trepidations about it, I guess, because it's an "art" movie, or at least, from what I can tell, a movie with some sort of legitimate point. I'm not going to see a movie just for the brutality. Hell, if that was the point, I'd just get those "rape videos." Yuck.
Nekroman
08-07-2003, 11:50 PM
Aw come on! You mean the videos Nick Cage watched in 8MM aren't your cup of tea? heh heh. Just kidding. I agree.
Honestly Men Behind the Sun is absolutely sickening. If you enjoy it you need to get your head examined since it's a true story and barbaric as hell. Plus if you heard about the cat scene.........*shiver*
August Underground while looking identical to what a genuine snuff movie would no doubt look like was a somewhat guilty pleasure though. Yes, it's unbelievably graphic and mean spirited, but at the same time I saw it for what it was. A movie. No more, no less. And since it wasn't real I could kick back, shake my head in disbelief, and have a good laugh (like the kind of laugh rollercoaster freaks do).
Irreversible, sorry, but I don't want to sound like a wet blanket, but *YAWN!*. Bored the friggin' B'jesus out of me. The rape scene is only shot from one angle and it pales in comparison to virtually any other movie rape. I honestly did not see what all the fuss was about. Sure it was sad (I guess) but I was expecting a little more on the violent side. Most of it is scenes of yuppies having social interactions.
See it anyways just to say you did and you might just like it. I just have odd tastes in flicks. Watch what you dig, man!

Any movie made by John Water's.

Well, I finally watched "Irreversible." Wow. The tunnel scene was one of the most unbearable eight minutes I've ever experienced in my movie-watching career. I nearly had to skip past it about halfway through. It was as tough as I had been dreading. (The fire extinguisher scene wasn't quite as bad, though it made me cringe. The setting is lighted exclusively with red light bulbs, rendering the blood invisible and the murder, ironically, bloodless. Still, very unpleasant.) On the other hand, I thought the movie as a whole was really good. I'll probably watch it again sometime soon, but I think I can skip the rape scene -- it's seared into my mind.
