sorry if this is a rant, but i think it's kinda gossip. i just want all the schmoes to know what this silver spoon fed twat has said

i was listening to Howard Stern this morning and he started talking about what a dumbass kate hudson is. i was perplexed as to why, but then he played a clip of her in an interview talking about anerica. i'll try to quote this exactly as she said it,but it was about 12 hours ago. so here it go

kate hudson- "i'm walking down the streets(in france) and i see these americans and i say of course they hate us. we are the most disgusting, boisterous creatures on the planet. of course they can't stand us. some american saying pass the catchup for my french fries and excuse me(laughs)."

i was f'n appalled(as was stern). he basically said how dare she say things about us during times like these. she has had such a frickin privelaged life here, only has an acting career cause she came out of goldie hawn's snatch, and she says "these americans"! the same people who pay to see her goddamn movies and keep her rich. she said the french are better. she hasn't seen france.staying in 5 star hotels, she has not seen france. w/frenchmen who would rape her ass if she was nine in the gutters.if she doesn't like it, go to france and stay there. but she loves american currency.

Stern and everybody else was even more pissed because of family who fought to liberate there ass and died to help the french. even Robin's horrible father fought for them.

the conversation started out with them talking abot johnny depp, as he said something about the govt. but they said that's okay because he said he just doesn't agree with the govt. and he left.he lives in france.but hudson is just a goddamn hypocrite. wow,i hate her ass now. and now shes pregnant and will have f'n demon spawn w/ that bitch from counting crows. put her ass in line goddamnit!

sorry for some of my verbage, but i was seriously pissed off listening to this thsi morning.

i'd probably still do her though, but angrily.

1- I could have done without the "the french would rape her ass..:" part. That's even more insulting that what Kate Hudson said; her comments were hipocritical, yours were just gratuitous

2-"times like these"? You mean times when America goes to war for oil and expects people not to be mad at them?

3-So you helped the French... so? Does Europe have to be grateful for ever because you helped us? It's not like France never helped you guys... Don't get me wrong, we are grateful for helping us in WW2, but that doesn't you have to bring it up everytime Europe and the US disagree on something.

But besides that, yeah she's an idiot

Granted, Kate Hudson's comments weren't the most intelligent or necessary, but you know what? I'm getting a bit tired of people jumping down the throats of everyone for being "unamerican" or "unpatriotic." People are allowed to say what they really think, and it shouldn't suddenly be unacceptable now that we're in a time of war. We are a democracy, which sets us apart from fascist nations. I wouldn't want it any other way.

Reality is, I am an american, and I disapprove of my government's actions ever since Bush came into office, and I also think our nation has a lot of excess pride and flaws. I love living here and I take the good with the bad, but these are still things I think. So if you want to hate me and slam me too, feel free.

I basically agree with most of what Charlie and FlowrChild said, but I can say, Kate's comments were a little unintelligent and didn't really come off to well on her, but she is speaking her mind and telling her opinion, something which is always important and everyone should do, no matter the time or the place... just as long as it has a point and isn't purposely offensive, which I don't think her comment was.

This is a free country, where people can have opinions and speak them proudly and a person not agreeing with that opinion makes this country ever greater than someone being able speak their mind on an issue. It's called respect and as long as it's being given to you, even though you don't agree with their opinion, then that same respect should be given back.

Again, that being said.. Kate Hudson is a one role wonder and sucks ass.

Well, if we wanna play that field, then you guys can't be pissed off at the French. I mean, without the help of Lafayette (a Frenchman, btw) and his troops, you boys would probably still be English by now. Makes you wonder, heh?
And I'm pissed off about the whole "we-saved-your-asses-in-WWII-you-owe-us-respect-our-fathers-were-such-great-heroes". Number one, WWII pretty much made the U.S.A what it is today -- the most powerful country in the world. And Roosevelt and Truman knew it at the time -- helping Europe out had as much to do with that than with big Superman saving the world shit. Number two, your fathers and grand-fathers fought in WWII and freed Europe and some of them died for it -- THEY earned my respect a thousand times. But the U.S. of today, they haven't proved shit to earn my respect -- rather the contrary, really. Nooffense because I am Canadian but here is the thing

Most Europeans do hate american tourists because they are loud and ignorant, unfortunaly that is the truth. You guys go to other countries(not you necessarily) and act like your shit dont stink.

Maybe if you got familiar with the countries your visiting beforehand and did not act so ignorant this would not happen

This is what I have heard from my fellow countryman who have traveled abroad, there isa reason we ar the Canadian flag when going to Europe, so we dont get confused with the US people

Personally I love US people but you ar inorant wen going to other countries sorry the truth hurts

Add to this the minor fact that the US let France languish under Nazi occupation for almost a year and a half w/o lifting a solitary finger or firing a shot.

Learn some history, folks. The French helped us get started (again, for their own selfish reasons, but when you're in the position we were in...you take the fucking help and don't ask questions).

We're EVEN already.

My point precisely. Not all American tourists are that way...the nicest are the elderly, retired couples who've saved up all their lives for a trip to Europe, and are just so thrilled to be there...but most are pretty bad. The 17 years I lived in London I was appalled by the behaviour of many visiting Americans. Like it or not, some of them really do have a "holier than thou" attitude about themselves. And why is everyone bringing Kate Hudson's patriotism into question? She's commenting on something she's observed overseas, not bashing Americans as a whole or giving her opinion on the current conflict.

Years ago I was working as a nightdesk clerk at a Kensington hotel that turned into a hostel for American students on 3-month study packages in the off-season. One night I received several complaints about a loud party going on in one of the rooms (all the kids went nuts on the booze when they learned our drinking age is 18, and they were legal). I went to check it out and ask them to keep the noise down; the host of the party got into an argument with me on the landing, told me to fuck off, jabbed his finger in my chest and basically told me that, if it weren't for his fellow countrymen coming to the UK and spending their dollars, my country would be "flushed down the toilet". (Btw, he was the only party-goer who wasn't drunk off their arse.)

Another time this girl got into a screaming - and I mean ear-splittingly screeching - fight with her father on the payphone by my desk, because she'd maxxed out her credit cards and he cancelled her accounts and wouldn't send her any money (she was buying her groceries from Harrod's Food Hall and Fortnum & Mason's, for chrissakes). She called him and her stepmother every name in the book. She slammed the phone down on him, stomped by my desk and told me to "Fuck off!" for no reason. (Incidentally, two days later she was back on the phone, thanking her father for paying off her credit cards and wiring her a hefty amount of cash. Sheesh...)

I'm sorry to say I've seen similar behaviour here in Oz from the Yanks, but not on as big a scale. I think it's because life here is so laid-back, Americans soon calm down and get into the Aussie groove. I guess it's hard to keep being obnoxious when the only answer you're going to get is "Good on ya, mate!"

I'm no great fan of Kate Hudson's, but I think this is a wrong call on Stern's part. And, btw sharkstank...hope you don't mind me saying, but that comment about the French raping 9-year-olds was out of line...

It's the politicians part I agree with.

Why hate French people if you don't agree with what their leaders decide for the country?
Why hate an American because of the decisions of the President and his team of monk-- and his politicians?
Why hate Iraqi people just because they were BORN there and might or might not agree with the support of Saddam Hussein?

I think it's silly to berate an entire RACE of people based on the decisions of the leaders from that country. It's not like I can just walk up to the President and say, "Hey! George! Stop this war nonsense. Stop trying to be the World Police! Just leave the rest of the world alone!"

Whether I agree with my country's leaders' decisions on a current event or not, it doesn't make ME someone to be hated. Hate me for being me, not for being American. Goes to anyone from anywhere else, too.;)

I tried to exercise some restraint when I first read this post, but I really have to reply.

First of all, I can't believe that anyone ever got mad at the French (and if someone remains mad at the French, that's even worse) for the war in Iraq especially since we are now finding out that many facts regarding this whole ordeal were fabricated. I still don't understand how you can support unjustified murder and destruction...

Second, Americans are absolutely the most disgusting and boisterous group of people on the planet. We wonder why other groups of people around the world hate us! We are overindulgent, overweight, and overly-materialistic. We also worship a group of cretins (including Kate Hudson) instead of those who make a difference in our lives.

Ask any high school freshmen to name the cast of Dawson's Creek and I'm pretty sure they'd do so without much difficulty. Ask them who is currently working on a cure for breast cancer, and I guarantee they'll scratch their heads.

I really hate Kate Hudson, don't think I'm writing this post as a fan defending her. She's a horrible and completely irritating actress and I want her to fade from the limelight as soon as possible.

I just can't hear anything patriotic any more when our country's leader in guiding us into war for embellished reasons and feeding us fear & false motives to keep us quiet and ignorant.

Sounds like I should move to Canada, huh?

I'll wait till 2004 and see who wins the next election

Not being American (Canadian, thank you very much, and damn proud eh), my two cents may not be of much importance to this thread, but I believe that although Hudson's comment may not be the most "thoughtful" thing ever said, it's not as though it wasn't within her rights to say it.

It was mentioned that Stern played this as an audio clip. Perhaps later on in this interview she explained her reasoning for saying what she did, or something along those lines. Celebrities are too often misquoted (except Fred Durst, I mean, "in agreance", what the hell is that?), so I personally try and take each comment with a grain of salt. I don't think she should be ostracized for thinking the way she does; it's a part of democracy, she's allowed to. There's been a lot of hate towards anti-patriotich beliefs as of late, and that goes against the whole ideal of freedom of speech. It's her right to say what she wants, much as it's our right to express it on these boards.

Although she's still only ever delivered one good performance, and I don't like her much (besides being quite attractive). I don't know if this little rant made sense, but I thought I would add it anyways.

I really don't get this post-modern patriotism that seems to have developed ever since 9/11. It appears as if the new credo is to wave the American Flag and champion the cause of Freedom of Speech----but only if you agree with us.

Kate Hudson doesn't appear to be saying anything that isn't the truth. Many American tourists are rude and arrogant when visiting other countries. Many aren't. My wife went to Paris many years ago and made a concerted effort to speak the language and adopt the culture. Parisians were greatly appreciative about it and polite. I'm sure that if she went there expecting all of the French people to speak English, they probably would've been rude as Hell.

We just need to leave the French the hell alone. There are plenty of other countries out there more worthy of our hatred.

In all of my travels I have always tried to be respectful of the host country and it's inhabitants (the respect was not always returned, but still I dont label an entire nation of people as rude just because of a few bad apples).

We are even. They helped us in the Revolution. That's why, when we landed on Normandy, one of the commanding officers (don't remember who) said "Laffayette, we are here". We owed them.

Also, my dad, who was in the air force during Vietnam (he never saw combat, thank God, he was in Thailand) told me once that he remembers that when the French were losing Vietnam, they warned us not to go in there, unless we wanted the Vietnamese to kick our asses. We didn't listen, and look what happened. They tried to help us.

Actually, after what many people in the country have been saying about them lately, I understand why the French don't necessarily like us. Why should they, when so many people in this country seem to hate them? People in this country get pissed off when people in other countries diss America, and then they turn around and do the exact same thing to France and other countries. If that's not hypocritical, I don't know what is.

Having said that, while I think what she said may have been a bit extreme, Kate Hudson has the right to say whatever the hell she wants, without having to worry about being called unpatriotic or unamerican.

If you ask me, no one owes anyone. And the epitome of bad taste is to remind people they owe you something...that's why I respect that commanding officers and folks like him, and folks like you, and Buck. Folks who realize everyone helped out everyone in the past, it's the rules of the game, people remember it without you having to remind them. That's how politics work.

I agree about the last part. About hating...well, I'm pissed at French people who hate Americans just as much as I'm pissed at Americans who hate French people. Generalizing your hatred and scorn to a whole country just because you disagree with some political leader or because you had a few bad experiences with foreigners is the stupidest thing one can do. Sure, all people have their goods and bads, which many of their citizens do have -- it's called culture. And the least of things is to respect other people's culture for what it is, agree with 'em or not.

As if Howard Stern can talk about being appalled. What about the time he disgustingly put gunshot sounds behind Mexican Tejano singer Selena just a day after her death(she was shot for those unfamiliar with her)then made disgusting remarks about how the Mexicans were so poor that they probably took her body and ate it(and went into detail about how they probably nibbled on the fingers). I was horrified for family and insulted as a fan for both her and Stern's show. That is what I call appalling. Stupid hypocrite. Guess it is only bad if it is about his country. As for what Kate Hudson said, to each their own. After seeing the backlash the Dixie Chicks got I would think she would at least have tried to tone down the comment. After all being a celebrity and having a country hate you can't do wonders for a career or if you are like me and don't take things to heart like that. I hear Americans bash Canada all the time(something about coming up here to take us over when they run out of trees*shrugs*) but I try not to hold it against you;).

Kate Hudson is blessed with the cute Goldie Hawn smile- her acting is mediocre at this point. I think her comments are insulting becasue I resent her saying that she understands why the French hate Americans (as if she doesn't belong to that American group!) You can't characterize all Americans as loud and obnoxious. There may be some, but there are some ignaorant people from all countries.

Goldie Hawn was very cute but she started to believe she was a higher life form- when I see her on interviews she has a very patronizing way of talking and she even speaks in a very put on voice these days as if she is some great intellectual. If she is appearing on Oprah with another co-star of her movie, she dominates the converstion. I hope this isn't what is happening to Hudson.

Hudson was completely out of line. I'd be willing to bet my flowered travel shirt, straw hat, camera, and big white shoes that bad American tourists are nonexistant ;)

Seriously, I think what she said was harmless, but although I think I stay respectful of other cultures (flowered shirt and slow, loud speech to people who don't speak English aside ), there are many examples of why American's are given bad reps as travellers. Unlike most civilizations, the US is not surrounded by a group of countries that speak many different languages. Only Mexico, and Canada which has two major languages, one is our own. We take it for granted that we don't have to learn any other languages, which is well publicized and known (since we can be a loud culture to begin with). But, the fact of the matter is, EVERY nationality has bad tourists. Loud tourists who don't bother to learn the language. Bothersome tourists who complain about everything.
