What remake became a fluke and turned out better than the original?

Night of the Living Dead remake (1990) IMO was a much better film than the 60's black and white version (though I still like it for its very creepy ending.)

...and let's stay in the horror genre: John Carpenter's The Thing remake wasn't too shabby either.

The IMDb says Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is a remake of The Three Outlaws. I dunno if this is true or not, but if it is I'd have to say that's the best remake ever.

Nosferatu: Phantom der Nacht is nearly as good as the original.

I was gong to mention all of those. Darn you guys! Darn you all to heck!

So I guess I could add on Little Shop of Horrors. Well, there was a musical based off of the movie, then the remake was based off of the musical, but it still counts.

INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS (1978) is slightly scarier than the original (1956). The recent WILLARD remake was also a lot better than the orginal (or BEN for that matter!).
