Well, I thought 2000 was quite a bad year for movies, as the only movie it produced that I really liked was Requiem for a Dream. 2001 was a bit better, with Memento, Mulholland Dr., Amelie, and The Royal Tenenbaums, but still not a great year in my opinion. And I think 2003 just flat-out sucks so far, but then again most good movies come out in the last 3 months of the year.
So my pick for the best year so far this millennium is 2002. The Pianist, Adaptation, Minority Report, Bowling for Columbine, Spirited Away, Punch-Drunk Love, The Quiet American, Chicago, Far From Heaven, Gangs of New York, and About Schmidt are all terrific movies, in my opinion.

2000 by far. I know it's an unpopular choice, but I think it's the second best year of the past 10 (1997 being first). While 2001 produced no 10/10's, 2002 produced only one (GONY), and 2003 so far hasn't produced one, 2000 produced five, it is by far the best year IMO.

6.) Requiem For A Dream -9/10
7.) The Big Kahuna -9/10
8.) Wo Hu Cang Long (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) -9/10

10.) Jesus' Son -8/10
Best of 2001
1.) Vanilla Sky -9/10
2.) In The Bedroom -9/10

6.) The Royal Tenenbaums -9/10
7.) Der Krieger und Die Kaiserin (The Princess and The Warrior) -9/10
8.) A Beautiful Mind -8/10

4.) George Washington -10/10
5.) Wonder Boys -10/10

7.) Traffic -10/10

I'd go completely against the grain and rank the years as
1.) 2000
2.) 2002
3.) 2001
and 2003 would be last, but it's not really fair to judge it yet, most great movies come out in the last 3 months of a year.
