I loved the first TCM. If you haven't seen any of the sequels you should watch them out of curiosities sake, but don't expect too much. I wasn't impressed with any of sequels. It is hard to live up to the standards of the original, but the rest are very poor.

I don`t like "Leatherface" at all.

The 1st is a classic piece of art.
The 2nd is certainly strange. I used to like it, then I didn't. I am going to watch it again to give it a fair chance as its been a looong time.
The 3rd is underrated. I really dug the first half. Some genuinely creepy moments. At the end of the movie it was like another director stepped in. The family scenes were terrible.
The 4th - ONE OF THE WORST MOVIES OF ALL TIME; Seriously, it is on my first top 5 worst movies made list. I couldnt even watch it the whole way through.

TCM is a horror classic...a definitely work of art, and an overwhelming horror film experience. one of the finest and most terrifying horror movies ever made.
i didn't like the others nearly as much, and the 4th is just garbage. i guess Zellweger needed to pay her rent and McConaughey needed to pay alimony or something.
let's hope the new one redeems it.

TCM is one of my all time favorites
I also really liked Part 2 (Dennis Hopper ruled in that flick)
Leatherface was a victim of the MPAA, but what was there wasn't too terrible, except the lame ass ending
**SPOILER**benny lives, what the fuck?**SPOILER
I actually haven't seen any of the others.....

The first Texas Chainsaw Massacre I thought was the best by far.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part II was good but I didn't care for the end. Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part III I thought was a really good movie. I liked the comic moments especially the guy from the gas station. The Next Generation really disappointed me. I thought for sure it killed the series. The remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre I am taking a wait and see attitude. The trailer looked good.
TCM - 10/10
TCM 2 - 7/10
TCM 3 - 8/10
TCM 4 - 2/10

Yeah that`s what really ruined Part 3 for me, the awful new family.
The family in the original really freaked you out. In Part 3 we get an old woman with a voice box in a friggin` motorized wheelchair (ohhhh, scary) and that stupid little girl - the part where she holds her doll and says "yakkaty yak don`t talk back" made me shake my head in disgust. This is supposed to be scary?
Say what you want about "Next Generation", but at least the family in that one was truly NUTS.

I know, and don't forget the "makes those babies" part Elgyn. I wanted to see the whole family - well, except Viggo- die a horrible death after those scenes.

The first was a classic maccabre tale of carnage and brutal terror. An absolute masterpiece. The directing and cinematography gave it a documentary feel and thats why I think it had such an impact on society. Nothing that gritty and real had ever been done before, and it disturbed many people.
The 2nd could never come close to the shocking original. This one felt more commercialized. It felt like an actual film...not a documentary. Although, it did have a very well put together opening. I did like how the family now lives in an abandonned amusement park. The house was much scarier and darker. It made you feel contained. This film, however, was slightly less 'contained'. And Leatherface wasnt very scary since he seemed horny all the time. And the ending...well the ending left me speechless. And not in a very good way.
The third was most like the original because it tried to capture the gritty nature of the original and, it suceeded slightly. It did have a more feeling of despair than the 2nd. Leatherface is alot more aggresive and is more like the original Leatherface. The family was disposed of too quickly.
The fourth, well, the fourth did try to go back to the series roots, and I do respect it for that. The fourth had some weird plot twists that no one really understands. I did like some of the scenes in the woods and at the house because it reminded me of the original. But, other than that, it just doesnt go anywhere.
The remake is looking quite promising.

I agree with everything that you jes' said Boogeyman....except for what was said about part 4 and 3. I disliked the 3rd one and didn't even want to bother with the 4th.
The remake looks like it's going to be OK. My expectations for it however have dropped greatly with each look at the cast I take. I have a feeling it's going to end up being another "Scream" flick. Which I absolutely can't stand.

The first was classic, very dark and disturbing.
The second one was more over the top and had some humor and good gore.Chop Top was great.
The third was back to being more brutal.Leatherface was much scarier in this one.
