Hitcher in the Dark (1989)

I'm thinking of picking up this DVD as a rental. The box that it comes in says that it was directed by sleazemaster Umberto Lenzi, and stars Josie Bisset (Melrose Place?)

Who has seen this one? is it any good?

Ok, I picked it up as
a rental (thank a lot schmoes for not giving me any guidance on this one...) Here's my Review:

Plot:

This movie is about a man who drives around the country in a camper wanting to turn women into his mother. He's all sorts of unattractive things, a yuppie, a republican, a comic books reader, shy around women, and a drinker. He drives around Florida picking up women and murdering them when they can't satisfy him, woln't satisfy him, or woln't be his mother. Most of the plot of the movie involves his capture and interaction with a young woman, played by a young Josie Bisset from Melrose place. While some of the scenes are great, the movie does run about 20 minutes too long in the middle, and there's an annoying 'boyfriend on the case' subplot that provides for unintentionally hilarious moments. I'd also like to quibble a bit with the ending, which just sort of happened without any sort of climax... I mean, per the horror movie rules, a character comes back from the dead to provide a cheap scare at the end, but this character is sooo clearly dead that this tacked on extra ending doesn't feel real.

Gore:

I thought that we were in for the good stuff early. One of the first scenes involves picking up a hitchhiker, hacking up her naked body & feeding it to alligators! The gore gets good late on... but there's a long long delay between shots of gore.

T & A:

Lots and lots of T&A. A young Josie Bisset is nude all the time in quasi-bondage. I never thought that she was all that pretty on the Melrose Place, but she's younger here and proves to be very beautiful when she doesn't have a nasty short haircut. There's a controversial scene where she attempts to escape by seducing her captor, so that's a full nudity sex scene. The first murdered girl is nude, & three other girls remove their tops in a wet T-shirt contest. (I told you.. unintentionally hilarious that the boyfriend would choose to look for his kidnapped girlfriend at a wet T-Shirt contest)
