I thought this could make for interesting discussion. Just name any decade or two or three or whatever, and name who defined that particular decade for films.

1920s: Charlie Chaplin
1930s: Marx Brothers
1940s: Humphrey Bogart
1950s: Marilyn Monroe
1960s: Paul Newman
1970s: Al Pacino
1980s: Steven Spielberg
1990s: Tom Hanks

Those are off the top of my head. With more thought, better answers may be available.

I think we'll have to see what time will tell on the 80s on. Tom Hanks does sound like a good choice for the 90s, though.

60's Steve fucking McQueen
70's Al Pacino
80's Arnold Schwarznegger (how the fuck do you spell that?)
90's Tom Hanks

2000's Russel Crowe or maybe Colin Farrel.

1910's: DW Griffith
1920's: Charlie Chaplin & Buster Keaton
1930's: Clark Gable & Spencer Tracy
1940's: Humphrey Bogart, unquestionably--there'll never be another
1950's: Marlon Brando revolutionized film acting
1960's: Hmm. This is a tough decade, as so many things began to happen here..I'm not sure there is a clear singular influence.
1970's: Al Pacino, for actors. Spielberg & Lucas for influence.
1980's: Spielberg and Scorsese
1990's: for actors, it belonged to Kevin Spacey--wanna know why, just ask me. Director-wise, probably Tarantino.

I think either Nicole Kidman or Colin Farrell will have the best chances of defining the 2000's, but we'll wait and see....
