Weapon X

I started one of these before, but I'd disappeared into the depths of the Joblo archives, so rather than search for it (I'm so lazy) I figured I'll just start another one. In a nutshell, this thread is for naming movies that you are absolutely unapologetic for enjoying regardless of the public's general dislike for them! Viva la resistance!

I'll start this with two movies I believe in my heart are undeserving of the critical wrath they've incurred:

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (7/10)
Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (7/10)

And a few others I named in the last thread, with a few more besides:

Tomb Raider (7/10)
Planet of the Apes 2001 (7/10)
Alien 3 (8/10)
Resident Evil (7/10)
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (9/10)
Armageddon (8/10)
The Crow: Salvation (7/10)
Highlander Endgame (7/10)
The Mummy Returns (8/10)
Titan A.E. (7/10)
Soldier (7/10)
Gangs of New York (8/10)

I think only League of Extraordinary Gentlemen....

and if you count the general populous, almost everyone I've met hated The Hulk, which I adore. But that probably doesn't count.

I love the hell out of this one. I've rented and watched it about three times now, and it never ceases to be one damn cool flick.

Movies I think get way too much crap:

THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN
BALLISTIC: ECKS VS. SEVER (not perfect, but there's worse action garbage out there)
THE WIZARD
CRITTERS 2: THE MAIN COURSE
THE MUMMY (1999)
FAMILY PLOT
STAR WARS: EPISODE I - THE PHANTOM MENACE
STAR WARS: EPISODE II - ATTACK OF THE CLONES

Zoolander. This movie is funny as hell. How can you not laugh at Ben and Owen. Even more so knowing they are best buds off screen.

DON'T TELL MOM THE BABYSITTERS DEAD. I LOVE this movie. I've loved it since I first saw it years ago. I keep seeing it on movie channels the past few weeks. It's got a 5.2 average over at IMDb and even though it's unrealistic, it's still fun.

A recent one that I keep seeing played on "Starz" is SUGAR & SPICE! That movie is nothing but camp, but it's so fun to watch to and it's funny too.

There are so many movies I like that people and critics hatethe, but king of "bad" movies that I just can't help but enjoy is "Driven," that 2001 race-car movie about formula-one racing with, yes, Sylvester Stallone. I just have so much fun with this movie, I just have to back to it from time to time. :D

1)Everyone hates Shakespeare in Love?! That's news to me! ;)

2)There are quite a few people that I know in real life who hates it, and the film also gets quite a few undeserved flack on the boards (from the posts I've seen), so there you go. :)

The only reason people hate it is because it won the Oscar, when about 95% of everyone thinks Saving Private Ryan should have won. If it didn't win the Oscar, it wouldn't be hated at all, I don't think. So really, people don't hate the movie, they just hate the fact that it beat Saving Private Ryan.

Movies I LOVE that get too much shit for various reasons:

Titanic (8/10)
Shakespeare in Love (9/10)
Down with Love (8/10)
A Life Less Ordinary (7/10)
Newsies (9/10)
The Ruling Class (7/10)

Bridget Jones' Diary (8/10)
Muppet Treasure Island (9/10)

The one I feel most passionately about (and the most underrated movie ever IMO) is:

PEARL HARBOR (10/10). I can understand some people not liking it as much as me but there is NO WAY it's one of the worst films of 2001 much less of all time, as so many like to say. You have to at least give credit to the Attack scene and the art direction.

Others:

Newsies (10/10)
Deep Impact (10/10)
Far and Away (10/10)
Daredevil (10/10)
Tuck Everlasting (10/10)
Unbreakable (10/10)
Drop Dead Gorgeous (9/10)
Maverick (9/10)
Scream 3 (8/10)
A Walk to Remember (8/10)
Alien 3 (8/10)
For Richer or Poorer (8/10)
Halloween H20 (7.5/10)
Dreamcatcher (8/10)
Urban Legend (8/10)

I don't think I would consider Moulin Rouge to be hated by the majority, but I do love it (10/10).

Resident Evil (8/10)
Alien3 (7.5/10)

Payback (8.5/10)
A.I. (9/10)
Hulk (7/10)

1) Everyone on this board sure seems to hate it, except for a select few. Wheter the reason is just it's BP win, like zeppelin said, or there's more to it than that, the hate is still there. What do you think of it, btw?

2) I am well aware that a LOT of people hate MR! (poor misguided souls ;)), but those of us who love wouldn't give it for anything in the world. Not so many cases of such devotion to MR! here at Joblo, but plenty if you look elswhere.

Well, I hated both of those movies. It has nothing to do with the Oscar.

Anyway, movies I liked which the majority hated...

Hulk
Solaris

Eh, I'm not too fond of Shakespeare in Love meself, I don't exactly 'hate' it, but I don't see what's so great about it either.

And as for MR!, it is a 'love it or hate it' experience; you either love it, or you loathe it. I just know that I LOVE it and there are other folks who feel that way too, but yet there are quite a few people out there that disliked it just as much. But that's the beauty of opinions. ;)

Super Mario Bros - 8/10. I liked it the first time when i was young Nintendo fanboy, and I love it now.

Radioactive Dreams - 9/10. No, I'm not joking with that rating. It succeeds at spoofery, adventure, action scenes. Great.
