From Creature-Corner.com (http://www.creature-corner.com/news3/jul29brothers.php3 )

I wasn't sure if this was pure horror or not, but it has potential to be pretty f-ing messed up... And it was on Creature-Corner.com so:

Everyone out there should be crossing their fingers and holding their breaths, because Terry Gilliam is working on a new movie, and we all know how risky that can be. The movie in question is 'The Brothers Grimm', working from a script by 'Ring' scribe Ehren Krueger. Now that the brothers have been cast (Matt Damon and Heath Ledger to be exact), some of the smaller roles are starting to be filled in, and replaced.

Nicole Kidman was apparently attached to play an evil queen who is only seen in paintings for most of the film but comes to life at the end. Since she's taking a role in every other movie currently in production, however, she's had to bow out and is being replaced by the lovely Uma Thruman. That's a tough call...Kidman's a redhead, I have a weakness there, but she also looks like a mega-bitch most of the time, while Uma seems like the kinda chick you could hang out with...Not that I'll ever have to make that decision.

Fango's unveiled a bit more about the plot, as well. The titular brothers travel the Napoleonic countryside, vanquishing fake evil in exchange for cash. When the French government catches wind of what their doing, they send the brothers north to investigate a string of mysterious murders, and not finding the killer means a quick trip to the guillotine.

'The Brothers Grimm' is set for release in 2004, barring any Gilliam-esque tragedies.

Sounds like a PERFECT movie for Gilliam... This has moved near the top of my most anticipated list for 2004!!

Hmm, sounds quite interesting, though Matt Damon and Heath Ledger...? Doesn`t seem like a good casting decision IMO.

Well... Look what he did with Brad Pitt in 12 Monkeys... Pitt didn't have much credibility in my mind until that movie and he didn't seem very Brad Pitt-ish in the film. I have every bit of faith in Gilliam and think that he will do well with his cast. We shall see...

Hey, that`s true. I don`t like Brad Pitt and he was awesome in that movie. And I have faith in Gilliam too.

I have always loved fairy tale films, books, and cartoons.I always wanted Nicole Kidman or Uma Thurman to play in a fairy tale movie. This film seems to mix my two favorite catogories.

I wonder how the plot is gonna work? This just seems too cool for me.

When I first heard about this movie I was hoping that Johnny Depp and Christian Bale would play the brothers. I like Matt Damon, he's a good actor. It's Heath Ledger I'm worried about. He's not that good an actor IMO.

i am not a Heath Ledger fan either....but his performance in "Monster's Ball" was actually very good. i was very surprised!! i was like "Holy shit!! Heath can act!!!" And act he did. his small part was actually quite heartwrenching. I am not a matt damon fan either, but i will take him over Affleck anyday. he's at least got some talent, and i am sure his talent will be put to use here by Terry Gilliam.

i am looking forward to this one!!!

Variety reports that Dimension Films has taken over total distribution rights on THE BROTHERS GRIMM. Terry Gilliam's supernatural action/fantasy, with Matt Damon and Heath Ledger playing the tale-spinning siblings as fake exorcists who are forced to take on real demons, was originally a co-production between Dimension and MGM, with the latter handling international distribution. The studio's departure is said to have been motivated by the heavy slate it has on tap for the next year (including, ironically, THE AMITYVILLE HORROR, which it's handling for the States while Dimension releases it in other territories). The trade reports that the shoot was GRIMM indeed, with (no surprise) Gilliam and Harvey and Bob Weinstein locking horns and the latter replacing the first cinematographer. The budget is said to be $75-85 million, and the result will hit U.S. screens November 19. (thanks to Fangoria.com)

85 million dollars!! Dear lord! I mean I know Damon and Ledger are in it and the special effects look quite impressive but wow. And it is slated for November. Hooray!
