Any news on this one? Cover, release date, etc... I just read the plot and sounds AMAZING, besides...Halle "Hot as Hell" Berry stars.

Joblo has a cool summary of a brief talk Halle recently have about the movie. I, personally, am pretty psyched about this movie. Robert Downey's a good actor too, regardless of the fact that he's a fucking smack addict. I loved the performace he gave in Natural Born Killers.
Unfortunately, it's got Penelope Cruz. She makes me cringe every time she opens her mouth.

Gothika will be released around Halloween, as all Dark Castle productions are. A poster hasn't surfaced yet, but I'm sure it will soon. This film is sure to be a drastic step-up from Ghost Ship.

at least Steve Beck isn't directing it.
The director, Matthieu Kassovitz, is a french director (and the man who made Vincent Cassel a star) and the only movie i have seen of his is "The Crimson Rivers". This will be his first english language movie. I enjoyed "The Crimson Rivers"...it's like the french version of Se7en and stars Jean Reno and Cassel as detectives investigating brutal murders. the movie was VERY well directed....plenty of atmosphere, scares, gore....very well done.
for this reason in addition to the cast (Berry, Downey Jr, Cruz....) i am definitely looking forward to this one. Not as much as Cabin Fever, but i am looking forward to it.

It's set to be released October 24th. It could be okay but I despise Halle I cry over everything Berry. Her presence could very well keep me from seeing the movie.

Ever sinse I heard Halle Berry was starring along with reading the plot, I wanted to see this. Halle wasn't too good in Die another day(7/10), but other then that, she's great.

The only decent thing to come out of Dark Castle is House on Haunted Hill, and even then, I can't watch that one over and over without getting sick of it. I am really gonna have to be impressed with the media for this one if I'm gonna see it.

Yeah I like Robert Downey Jr. too. And you`re right he was fantastic as Wayne Gale in "NBK".
In fact Downey is the main reason I`m interested in this.
Now let`s just hope he doesn`t get all screwed-up and wanders off the set one day!
As for Halle Berry, well of course she`s sizzling hot.......but her acting skills are just an eensy-weensy bit overrated IMO.
I mean yes she was pretty good in "Monsters Ball"......but she also had some very 'off' moments IMO.
Plus, I found her over-the-top teary-eyed Oscar speech to be almost insulting - claiming that *she* has "opened so many doors" for African-American actresses......umm newsflash Halle, YOU`RE NOT FUCKING JOAN OF ARC OR SOMETHING!!
Check your EGO at the door please!
And as for the past Dark Castle movies, I`d say they`re all about equal in quality. I really liked "House On Haunted Hill" (mainly because of the great cast), kinda-sorta liked "Thirteen Ghosts" on a guilty-pleasure level (but HATED the characters), and "Ghost Ship" was pretty decent IMO with some great scenes.
They`re all just big-budget 'dumb fun' movies ya know?

from IMDB-
A criminal psychologist (Berry) awakens to find herself a patient in the institution where she works, with no memory of the murder she's accused of committing. As she tries to regain her memory - and her freedom - a vengeful spirit manipulates her.

I know, bumping's probably pretty lame, but I finally saw the trailer for this and I thought it looked pretty decent. Also, it's coming out in a couple of months, so I figured I'd give this thread one more shot at the top. Ya know what's funny, though? In the ad I saw I don't think that neither Penelope Cruz nor Robert Downey were shown. Halle was, certainly, but those are two marquee names that weren't shown. Maybe they're just "featured" in this, but not "starring" (recalls Tyra Banks' billing in H8). Well, I thought it looked pretty creepy, but, then again, I kinda dig that supernatural/atmosphere-type horror every once in awhile - as opposed to the axe in the forehead kind that I usually enjoy. What'd everyone else think of the trailer?

entertainment tonight is gonna show some footage on wednesday i think. i dunno - i don't really like penelope cruz, and it worries me that dark castle is trying to make a "serious" movie. i mean, "house on haunted hill" and "13 ghosts" were cheesy fun and all, but silver and zemekis thinking they're making something better than they are could result in a really shitty movie.

Doesn't interest me in the least. First off, I can't stand Halle Berry and I wish she'd just go away. Second the plot sounds terrible and I'm sure there will be an unexpected "twist" ending to cap it all off.

Kassovitz directed the superbe La Haine and Assassin(s), if you haven't seen these, then you're missing something!
the only film american saw of him is Les Rivieres Pourpres (AKA Crimson Rivers) a solid thriller until the last 10 confusing minutes, the book is awesome BTW!
Mathieu will do it and Gothika will be great...and the screenplay is also by Sebastian Guttierez writer/director of the underratted Judas Kiss and She Creature!

The trailers look incredible. I mean come on we have to all know that companies are going to eventutally hit a few duds like Thir13teen Ghosts and Ghost Ship. And even with those I have seen much worse. They were entertaining for what they were. And I actually really enjoyed House on Haunted Hill.
Gothika appears to be something totally different. And it looks awesome even though the movie has Halle Berry and Penelope Cruz... can you say double yuck? However I am a fan of Robert Downey Jr. smackhead or not. I am intrigued by this movie. And I will watch it.

If you look at Castle Rocks reputation, House on Haunted Hill and Thir13teen Ghost, you can predict this film is headed for disaster. Hey! Don't be knocking Ghost Ship, now. That movie was the shiznit. Not only did it have a kick-ass storyline. But plenty of horror n' gore. Not to mention a pretty fine ass and an even sweeter pair of titties. What more could you ask for in a film?! It's better then half those cheesey ass FT13th film's of the early 80's. House on Haunted Hill was good to, in it's own enviroment. I didn't think it sucked. But I didn't think it rocked, either. It was pretty good, like in the middle. I agree, X. Yes, we're all entitled to our opinion's. You think GS sucked, or wasn't that great. But I think the complete opposite. Yeah, maybe it could've been a little more indepth. But oh well, kind of hard to get into "character" when they all get offed. Know what I mean?! Beside's we knew the story behind the little girl, and Margolis' character by the end of the film. Same with the soul "collector" guy. I'd really like to see a sequel to this one. Especially, since they left it open to do so. And X, no offense in any way. But you couldn't gotten your point across about GS. Without using the word "sh*t" so freakin' much. Geeeez! And the ghost's were not "flying" as you claim. Their once trapped now freed soul's were being called up to heaven. Or a better place, up above. You may be a Super Schmoe, X. But I do not agree with one thing that you said. And your bashing of this film, was beyond childish. And I thought I was bad not wanting to see any more danged so and so vs so and so flicks. But as I said, we're entitled to our own opinion's. Nut in your review, your's seesm very "forced".
Anywho, getting back to Gothika. I saw the trailer for it, and wasn't the least bit impressed. And there's two main reason for that. One, Halle Berry. Two, Robert Downey, Jr. Well, actually three reasons. After seeing the trailer numerous times, thus far. I just don't see what all the "hype" is about. You ask me, it's trying to be a little too much like Identity. I won't get into detail's. Cuzz' I don't like to do spoilers. But those of you whom have seen it, probably know what I am getting at.
Anyways, as I said. I won't be wasting the money to see this film. Nor the cost of renting it when it comes out on DVD. I'd rather watch Charlie's Angles: Full Throttle. Muahahaha! 'Nuff said. L8rs all.

How was his review childish and forced? I agree with every word of it, although I gave the film a higher rating. Could he have gotten his point across without using profanity? Yes. Could you post without butchering the English language? Yes. I almost didn't know how to counter your argument because I wasn't sure what point you were trying to make.

Me being a super schmoe hasn't got much to do. I might be equally full of shit as anyone else ;).
Well, I really don't think my review was childish, it's the way I review (in the Reviews board there's wuite a few) and in every review I do it's the same, I use bad language nonstop.
That's how the movie felt ENTIRELY when I saw it (it's my fault for expecting a masterpiece, the trailer was the shit (oops, i did it again :))) , I just couldn't swallow another 'happy' ending where the ghosts are freed (13 Ghosts anyone?)(amybe they weren't flying but I didn't mean it literally). The very last thing (**SPOILERS** with the guys pulling the boxy thing to other place (Im not sure, it's been a while) made me really go "No mames!" ("Come fucking on!") and I really saw the 'soul collector' bit a mile away. Did I like the super amazing abundant gore effects? Yes. Did I love the stylish atmosphere and setting? Yes. But that can not engage a movie for me. Thenagain, I praise Final Destination 2. :).
It's ok you liked it, actually Im happy for you, I would have liked to enjoy the movie but I didn't it isn't my type. Well, I think my review states what I thought perfectly.
BTW, sorry about the language butchering, remember English isn't my first language.
I want to end it here, I don't want to piss anyone else off.

I am not trying to be an asshole (can I say that?) but please remember the rules of the forum. One in specfic was something about how not to dis people directly or indirectly. You may however dis or favor a movie however you want, but when you dis a fellow schome over his ideas, it just goes way too far. Again if bad language is a rule too, my bad I havent read that far.
Thank you X for clearing things up.

*A Gentle Reminder*
OK, I'm all for heated debates and conflicing points of view, even when I don't agree with them :) but let's try and do it without resorting to personal attacks. This isn't aimed at anyone specificly, but if the cap fits........ :)
Three brief points, as reminders.....
1. Everybody is entitled to their opinion, and everyone's opinion is equally valid. You don't like a particular movie? Fine. Feel free to diss the movie (but please give an intelligent reason - "It was shit" doesn't really tell us much about your thoughts. :D ).
2. You do not disrespect your fellow Schmoes. Period.
3. See points 1 and 2 again...... :)
OK, lecture over - we're all intelligent, mature (in attitude if not in years) Schmoes here, so lets act like it, yeah? As for the language, we're all adults (well, sort of ;) ) here so post what you see fit, but just remember that a varied vocabulary makes you look so much more intelligent......... ;)
As you were Schmoes............ :)

I'm really excited about this seeing all the TV spots and the music video...I still like The Who's version better of behind blue eyes but then again I dont hate the new one by Fred Durst...anywho...it's looking really creepy and a lil more sophisticated then ghost ship or 13 ghosts, which could be a good thing, or maybe a bad thing.....I gave my name and e-mail for that contest thing on the main page, but I never win lil contest stuff like that...guess I'm one of the unlucky people in life...but that little stuff they were giving away was pretty cool.....I'll prob be first in line to see this one...

I agree with psychopath2616....fred did a good job with the cover of behind blue eyes by the who but i too prefer the original who version over durst's...fred's is good too though. anyways, i too am very excited to see this movie. Looks to be a great mind boggling flix.

Just saw the trailer on the offical site and man does it look creepy. I've only seen Halle Berry in X-Men and Swordfish so I dunno how great her acting-talent really is. But she appears allright here IMO (acting-wise).
Looks like a good night at the movies this does, and definitly doesn't look like anyother Dark Castle movie which is a good thing.

Looks like one of those slick , polished , cliched , star vehicles ( H Berry of course ) .
I'm getting flashbacks of Phone and Open your Eyes . If anyone has seen any of those films , you'll know what i mean .
This film isn't about horror , it's about advancing Halle Berry's career , and trying to revive Robert Downey's .
Plus , is there some sort of rule that says Berry has to cry in almost all her films , sorry i'll pass on this derivative tripe .

Robert Downey Jr.`s career needs "revived"?
Well he might not be a big-time marquee star like Johnny Depp, but he IS the star of the most critically-acclaimed movie in years, "The Singing Detective".

Twas a good movie.
I guess spoilers:::::
But I'm upset that it didn't follow the previous three. Where was the several evil ghosts? We had just one and she needed help. The previous ghosts wanted blood!
I don't like how she wasn't entirly trapt in the place. She was on the road, in a hospital, at home, at a shack, at a police station and at a street. What about that whole 'trapped in one night, trying to survive vibe?'
And where was the gore? That's really the major thing that bummed me out! Sure we get one good scene, but HoHH, 13Ghosts and Ghost Ship had really, really amazing death scenes...*Sobs*
And what about several other characters? Sure, we got Miranda, Chole, Pete and others, but Miranda seemed to be the main focus here, and it kinda didn't feel right to me...
End Spoilers::::::
I still love Dark Castle, I still enjoyed this movie. I'm not going to shun out Dark Castle like several people have.

I don't know where I stand with yall in this thread, but I absolutely hated this incredibly horrible attempt at a scary movie...or a "movie" period at that. I knew I wouldn't like it just by watching the previews but stupid me, I decided to give it a shot and just about fell asleep throughout the damn near, uneventful feature. WARNING!!! SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

It was so predictable. I knew that the reason that girl possessed Halle to murder her husband was because he did what he did to her. Am I the only one who saw that??

Not to take the "horrible movie" credit away from this film, but I think another factor that added to this incredibly horrendous experience was the damn audience. UGHH!!! I hate people who speak throughout the damn film. There were these people sitting right in front of us and they just kept talking to the screen. There were also people right next to them who thought it would have been a great children's movie...so they had their baby with them, who couldn't be more than 8 months old. GEEEZ some people are stupid. Not to mention a couple sitting directly behind us who were making out so badly it sounded like a baby chewing on his fist. At one point I got so fed up that I told the people in front of me to shut the hell up because the people in the movie couldn't hear then anyway. I also looked back and asked those two idiots who were kissing, if she was breast feeding him.
Now, I am a very pleasant movie-goer, however, when I have my buttons pushed by extremely rude people who like to ruin the movie for everyone else, I will say something. I swear that I was about to get all "Scary Movie audience" on their ass. Anywho, as you can see I had a lot of factors as to why I didn't fancy this flick at all. So until I see it again in peace and quiet, which I doubt I will, my review stands.

AWFUL movie. Sorry, but this was just plain terrible. Bad acting, non-frightening scares, and a HUGE plot hole in the end.
... Monster's Ball musta been a fluke.
