article written in issue 2 movie inside magazine:
Ring 2 not 2 be Ring 2 remake
After the wild success of the gore verbinski- directed remake of
Ringu, Dreamworks has quickly moved forword on getting a sequel up on
its feet, though there's no word on the closely guarded plot. And if
you think because you've seen ring 2 or ring 0 you've got a leg-up,
you're wrong. "Ehren kruger, who wrote the first is busily writing
right now," producer and dreamworks production honcho walter parkes
tells movie insider. "it's very challenging. there was a sequel and
prequel done in japan, but we were unable to find too many story
elements within that that we thought would work in this context. so
we're moving on to what we like." so... is verbinski coming back?
"we're hoping!" parkes enthuses.

Interesting! All I have to say is: Hopefully it's for the better.

Actually, that`s what I thought from the beginning. I can`t imagine Ringu 2 remake. And I think it`s for the best.

Maybe Ring 2 can pull me into liking the Ring. For some reason, I didn't care for Ring! (7/10)

(RING SPOILERS)
While most of you seem to think this is reassuring news, it fills me with dread.
While I respected the fact that the first (US) Ring paid homage to the original Japanese film and stuck close to it, this sequel screams "cash-in" to me and makes me pray this won't be the start of a slasher-esque franchise with Samara diving out of TVs left, right and centre.

I haven't seen the Japanese sequels, but i'm really looking forward to the American sequel. I'll get around to seeing the Japanese ones sooner or later.

I own both the Japanese and the American version (and soon the Korean one too) and i like the American version the best, but all are excellent.

This isn't really new news, I mean, I remember the thread being around when I got here for the first time. It was always planned that the next US Ring movie to be a sequel to the original. Hopefully, it can be better than some of the japanese sequels, I liked Ring 0 but all the others were kinda weak to me.

I'm kinda glad. Ringu 2 was a pale shadow of the original in my mind. But, we true fans have it to love and cherish. If they are going to make a sequel HERE, I think it would be awesome to see a different take on where the Ring universe will go. That way, we have 2 different versions and (hopefully, but I doubt it) more people will be happy in the long run.
