Dog Soldiers 2: Fresh Meat prepares to pounce

Werewolves truly are "the new vampires" these days and one reason
that's the case is due to the surprise hit that was dog soldiers, a
lean, mean, made-on-the-cheap, but delivering-on-the-gore werewolf
picture about a group of british soldiers biting off more than they
can chew when they cross paths with a clan of werewolfs. and just in
case you were worried, yes, there is a sequel on the way.
"we are in the midst of writing the sequel right now - it's called
dog soldiers: fresh meat," enthuses producer david allen. "all i can
tell you is that it picks up right at the end of the first film, we
will have some americans in it and it is being made as a theatrical
film. we did sell it around the world theatrically, but of course,
america did not they wanted to see another british film. we will be
shooting in luxembourg again. it is a bigger budget. we hope to get
the studios here (in the uk) interested in showing it theatrically."
on top of fresh meat, allen is also on board for another pair of
films including one that sounds like external horro and then one that
qualifles as psychological horror.
"we also just started on a project we just bought called
nightcrawlers, which is an action/comic book hero/horror film," says
allen. it's going to be a pretty big thing next year. we are also
starting a dark romantic drama called neo ned that, if you can belive
it, about a neo-nazi who is in a psychiatric hospital and falls in
love with a black woman who belives she has the spirit of adolf
hitler in her. it's a very good script. we have gabrielle union and
jeremy rittler as the two stars."
but if werewolfs are your game, theres potentially a third werewolf
film in the works. "we hope that once we do the sequel, we can go
back and do a prequel," says allen with a grin.

I actually think Ginger Snaps is what resurrected the werewolf genre. Yes, Dog Soldiers did help though, but Ginger Snaps was first, and mostly responsible for bringing it back.

I wonder if they will release Dog Soldiers 2 in theaters here?! Probably not, even though they should, at least a limited release. Obviously us silly americans can sit through british horror, which is evident by the british hit 28 Days Later. Hmm, has a movie ever went STV or something and then had a sequel that went to theaters? I'm kind of curious... There's some I actually think they could do this with. Ginger Snaps and Dog Soldiers are both cult hits, and I think both sequels to them could at least be given a limited release here. Maybe at least in NY/LA. I'm sure there's some people that would go see them. Why don't they at least give them a chance?

Heh, that nazzi thing sounds weird....and interesting.

That would be weird if Dog Soldiers 2 got a theatrical release when the original didn't. I don't think they should do that because it might confuse audiences and make them wander what about dog soldiers 1. But still this sequel sounds good.

I can't believe that Dog Soldiers was destined for video shelves just because it featured a British cast. I'm embarrassed to be an American horror fan. Hell, it was an Americanized film anyway. The jumpy, erratic camera movements, the standard NOTLD-esque plotline, the numerous nods to American films...it wasn't "American" enough for us? I'm highly anticipating Fresh Meat, but there's no reason to fling American actors into the mix.

I enjoyed Dog Soilders (8/10), so I'll probably be seeing Dog Soilders 2, and yes, it should be on limited release.

I don`t have anything against theatrical release. I say let them confuse the audience. That`s always a good idea.

What's the big deal if it confuses people? They can just go to the video store and check out the first one then. Besides, Dog Soldiers was a STV hit and did well in both DVD and VHS rentals. There's people that have seen it, and a lot of people liked it and would see this one in theaters if they had the chance. Plus, if Dog Soldiers 2 was unleashed in theaters, people that never saw the first but thought the sequel looked cool could go to the video store and check out the original. So it would bring attention to the original too. Then after seeing the first, they could go see the second in theaters.

Well that's true but I was just saying that it could get confusing. But it this does happen then even more people will rent Dog Soldiers and then it will become an even bigger hit.

Question:
When the heck is the original Dog Soldiers gonna be re-released on DVD??? I wanna buy it but no-one has it - it's out of stock no matter where I look for it.

Any Schmoe have any info about this?
Thanks!

The first one was a great horror movie, had plenty of action and gore to boot. The only thing I hated was the woman Megan in the original, the wolfs looked bad at first glance but I completly forgot about them once the action took hold.

The second one should be just as great, with a mix of British and American actors. I can't wait :D

Woo Hoo! Man, when I saw Dog Soldiers the first time, I thought to myself, this is THE MOST KICKASS WEREWOLF MOVIE I"VE EVER SEEN!!!! Now that theres a sequel in the works, even if its STV I could care less, just as long as it brings me the same feeling the first one did. Man, werewolves are on one hell of a comeback, something an american werewolf in paris couldn't ever do! lol

dog soldiers was fucking killer, waaaay better than ginger snaps. at least the werewolves in dog soldiers looked like actual werewolves, as opposed to ginger snap's fucking hairless rat-dog.

i think this sequel could be good if done for the right reasons. hopefully all involved with the project are making another installment for the love of the genre, not for the love of the almighty dollar. we'll see.

Not sure if this info has been posted anywhere yet, or how old it may be, but here is a link

http://www.filmrot.com/articles/filmrot_news/004264.php

I got the link from Bloody-disgusting. Personally, I loved the original, and I'm not too sure that it requires a sequel. The first movie bumped Sean Pertwee into my favorite actors list, and the action was a hoot. Hopefully any sequel they do will do the original justice

I don't know if you've found a copy yet, but a video store an hour away from me has one for sale, and I go there every once in awhile. I suppose if you wanted to give me the money I could probably pick it up for you. If you're interested, just send me a PM.

Dog Soldiers will be re-issued on December 16. I can't believe that it went out of print so rapidly.

the 1st one was bad fucking ass! 9.5/10 i saw it on the scifi channel when it premiered, then bought it the second it was realeased on DVD.

the second sounds like its gonna be bad ass too and im sure its gonna kick the ass as well!!

too bad my 2 favorite characters cant be in it:( poor Spoon (come on! that guy kicked ass!) and Sgt. Wells was my other fav, at least he went out like a hero, and took 2 werewolves with him, so i guess its all good.

and blujeep, that sucks ass that you cant find a copy! try looking at ebay or amazon.com, im sure they have copies in stock.

It seems a shame that American actors have to be included to appeal to the State-side market. A film of Dog Soldiers' calibre should really be able to stand on it's own merits. No that I have anything against American actors I hasten to add!

I'm sure British horror can succeed abroad purely on it's content and quality without "Americanisation" or further regional appeal.

First post - that wasn't too bad...

Loved Dog Soldiers it is in my top ten!! Can't wait for the sequel and it's cool that the lead cooper is returning.

I dug up some news as well:

First Dog Soldiers' writer/director Neil Marshal talked with UK's Hotdog Magazine and revealed that the sequel will begin shooting sometime early '04 for a release in the first quarter of '05.

Total Film ran an interview with actor Sean Pertwee where he commented on the possibility of not one, but two sequels to last years hit horror Dog Soldiers. "There is alot of talk about a sequel. It was orginally written as a trilogy. Neil (writter, director, editor, God?) told him the whole story, but as there are other producers involved and things like that, I don't know whats happening. But all i can say to you is: DNA....theres a reason they're called Dog Soldiers, and its pretty fucking cool."

It was revealed that Marshal’s hope was to make a trilogy with McKidd’s character facing each separate classic monster entity in each subsequent movie (Part 2 was to have the lead fighting a haven of vampires, Part 3 Frankenstein style zombies) which is now shelved due to the similar-in-nature Van Hesling that is coming soon.

Above would have been a cool idea!!! But at least they are making a sequel so I am fuckin happy. :)
