"Freaky Friday"

http://i.imdb.com/Photos/Ss/0322330/poster.jpg

Plot: "Dr. Tess Coleman (Jamie Lee Curtis) and her fifteen-year-old daughter, Anna (Lindsay Lohan), are not getting along. They don't see eye-to-eye on clothes, hair, music, and certainly not in each other's taste in men. One Thursday evening, their disagreements reach a fever pitch - Anna is incensed that her mother doesn't support her musical aspirations and Tess, a widow about to remarry, can't see why Anna won't give her fiance (Mark Harmon) a break. Everything soon changes when two identical Chinese fortune cookies cause a little mystic mayhem. The next morning, their Friday gets freaky when Tess and Anna find themselves inside the wrong bodies. As they literally walk a mile in each other's shoes, they gain a little newfound respect for the other's point of view. But with Tess's wedding coming on Saturday, the two have to find a way to switch back - and fast."

Directed By: Mark S. Waters (Head Over Heels).

Written By: Heather Hach (Debut Screenplay) and Leslie Dixon (Mrs. Doubtfire).

Produced By: Andrew Gunn (The Haunted Mansion).

Starring: Jamie Lee Curtis (True Lies), Lindsay Lohan (The Parent Trap), Harold Gould (Stuart Little), Janet Choi (TV's "The Real World"), and Mark Harmon (Natural Born Killers).

MPAA Rating: "PG," for mild thematic elements and some language.

Thoughts: I actually wouldn't mind seeing this. It doesn't look like anything great, but the trailer's amusing, and I like the source material. I may not check it out in theatres, but I'll definitely see it someday.

A Walt Disney Pictures Release.

Disney could quite possibly have its third big hit in a row with this one; most preteen and young teen girls will flock to this.

It actually doesn't look as bad as I thought it would. I'm not going to see it in theaters but depending on reviews, checking it out on video is not outside the realm of possibility...

Down, boy. Down.

As for the picture, I'm somewhat dreading this. It could be a surprisingly sweet and entertaining picture, but it could also end up as another THE PRINCESS DIARIES, a good idea ruined by bland execution and a sub-par script. But my faith in Lindsay Lohan, who did a great job in 1998's remake of THE PARENT TRAP, is what will most likely get me to see this flick. I'm going to be careful about this one...

I saw a sneak preview of this a week a go not expecting much. Boy was I wrong. Admittedly, this isn't the most original movie, although I did like the fact they switched bodies right before the mother was abotu to be married, and a lot of the jokes were kind of obvious, but let me just put this to you plain and simple.

IT IS FUNNY AS HELL!

For one thing I have never seen so many jokes in one movie. If you didn't like one tehre is another right around the bend. But the real reason w hy this movie works is because of Lindasy Lohan and Jamie Lee curtis. They are on fire the e ntrie movie especially Curtis. i always knew Curtis had a funny streak (look at True Lies) but this really proved. To see her act like a moody teenager was the source of so many laughs. Lindasy lohan accomplished quite well too. Both of them just worked so well together.

I have to give it a

9/10

One of the best time at the theater for me this summer.

I really wanna see this and I have a gut feeling it is gonna be huge at the box office, following a PRINCESS DIARIES-like streak and crossing $100 million. No joke, people. This is really what I think.

Its nice to finally have a film this summer I actually liked. Except for Pirates everything has dissapointed me this summer from Matrix to the awful Seabiscuit. To find a film that is not doing shameless manipulating heart tugging(Seabiscuit) or boring random explosions (every other movie this summer), but just try to be funny and enjoyable is a breath of fresh air.

This is the only film this summer I would pay to see again aside from Pirates

I was suprised by the reviews as well. I was not expecting it to get good reviews simply because it is nothing original and has been done many times but at rotten tomatoes it is pulling in right now 9 fresh and only 1 bad. I'd hate to say it but it may have potential.

I liked the original when I was a kid and I thought this looked decent. But now with the surprisingly EXCELLENT reviews it's pulling in, I'm actually a little more interested. I was going to just wait until video, but now I'd "maybe" even consider seeing it in theaters. Although if I do, the reviews better be right.

And I'm with thompsoncory, I think it will pretty much definitely make it to 100 Million. And with the way the reviews are, if audiences feel the same way (I'm sure they will), it might do even more. I think it will do better than The Princess Diaries, which was longer and didn't have as good of reviews.

Yeah, I've read some really positive reviews, but all in all it's marketed at a Female demographic of "7-15" and, frankly, I don't fit in there. But, I think it'll be a big hit, because Disney now knows how to make a hit film.

She is the only thing that made me even want to consider renting it, as she looks like she'll be pretty funny. Otherwise the movie looks lame and I have no interest.

I just saw Freaky Friday tonight. Me and girlfriend walked into the theater and went "WOW!" because there were so many people. I had been hearing good things about the previews and all, but it was PACKED!

The movie started and I was thinking, "Eh, 5/10-6/10. It's not bad yet, but not too good either." So as I sit and watch it, I just start having these moments where I laugh out loud! The movie was REALLY funny, especially for a Disney... because I'm not a big fan of Disney movies (until as of late). It had it's touching moments as well, the ending I thought was very well, I'm not gonna spoil, but touchiness (a word?), and then to comedy. I love those patch overs. It's always nice to see Jaimie Lee Curtis on a leading role again too! :D

Curtis, Lohan have a jolly romp in 'Freaky Friday'
"FREAKY FRIDAY" ***

Directed by Mark S. Waters. Starring Jamie Lee Curtis, Lindsay Lohan, Mark Harmon, Chad Murray, Ryan Malgarini, Harold Gould and Lucille Soong. Running time: 93 minutes. Classified: PG (for mild thematic elements and some language).

By Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

Actors must love to make body-switch movies. Look at the fun Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan have in "Freaky Friday." Each one gets to imitate the body language and inner nature of the other, while firing salvos across the generation gap. Body-switch plots are a license for adults to act like kids; probably nobody has had more fun at it than Tom Hanks did in "Big," but Curtis comes close.
The movie is a remake of the 1976 film starring Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster, and also connects with the mid-1980s body switch craze, when three or four switcheroos were released more or less simultaneously. Curtis plays Tess Coleman, a widowed psychiatrist soon to be remarried, and Lohan is Anna, her 15-year-old daughter, who is certainly the most clean-cut garage band guitarist in history. There is a kid brother named Harry (Ryan Malgarini), who, like all kid brothers, thinks his older sister is picking on him.
Anna believes Tess is remarrying with unseemly haste; she's going through what in a Disney movie passes for a rebellious phase, and in real life would be exemplary teenage behavior. Mother and daughter join the future husband, Ryan (Mark Harmon), for dinner in a Chinese restaurant, where they get into a fight. The restaurant family's grandmother (Lucille Soong) zaps them with a fortune-cookie curse, and the next morning when they wake up Tess and Anna are in each other's bodies. (There was an article not long ago about how angels and God always seem to be played by African-Americans in the movies. Another could be written on the usefulness of movie Asian-Americans, who can always be counted on to supply magic potions, exotic elixirs, ancient charms and handy supernatural plot points.)
Anna looks in the mirror and is shocked to see her mother's body: "I look like the crypt-keeper!" Tess oversleeps just like her daughter always does. They go through the obligatory scene of horrified disbelief, although, like all body-switch movie characters, they are not simply paralyzed by astonishment and dread, but quickly decide to lead each other's lives for a while, so that there can be a story.
The movie, directed by Mark S. Waters and written by Heather Hach and Leslie Dixon, delivers scenes we can anticipate, but with more charm and wit than we expect. There is, for example, the case of Anna's flirtation with a slightly older boy named Jake (Chad Murray). He rides a motorcycle, so of course Tess disapproves of him, but now Tess, in Anna's body, is inexplicably cold to the kid, while Anna, in Tess' body, is so delighted to see him that before long she's on the back of the bike and Jake is telling her he feels like they really understand each other and maybe the age gap can be overcome.
Other entertaining scenes: The mother discovers her daughter's body has a pierced navel. The daughter buys her mother's body new clothes and a new haircut and gets her ears pierced. Tess attends a class Anna has been having trouble with, and realizes the teacher has been picking on her daughter because she (the mother) turned him down for a prom date. Everything comes down to a conflict between a rehearsal dinner and the garage band's big chance at the House of Blues, and when Anna, in Tess's body, makes her little speech at the dinner, we hear the daughter's resentments: "It's great we're getting married -- even though my husband died. How quickly I've been able to get over it!"
The outlines of body-switch movies almost write themselves, although I'd like to see what would happen with an R-rated version. The clever writing here helps, but the actors help even more, with Lohan and Curtis taking big physical chances. Curtis, channeling the daughter inside her, has a hilarious scene on a talk show; she's supposed to be a serious psychiatrist discussing her new book, but sits cross-legged in her chair and leads the audience in routines that seem vaguely inspired by summer camp.
Lindsay Lohan, who starred in the recycled "The Parent Trap" (1998), has that Jodie Foster sort of seriousness and intent focus beneath her teenage persona, and Jamie Lee Curtis has always had an undercurrent of playfulness; they're right for these roles not only because of talent, but because of their essential natures. We're always sure who is occupying each body, even if sometimes they seem to forget. Now if only their Chinese enabler doesn't run out of fortune cookies.

Yeah, and I love it :D

I think Lindsay Lohan is a very charismatic young actress, and I have no doube that Jamie Lee Curtis will have a blast just being goofy throughout the film. It's strike gold with the family market, and by the looks the trailers, deservedly so. I personally don't quite fit the demographic it's aiming for, but I'm sure it'll be just right for that crowd.

Maybe I'll check it out on video.

Freaky Friday 7/10

I was surprised how much I enjoyed this movie, me and my friends saw it kind of half out of interest and half as a joke. We were pretty much the only people over 16 and under 30 in the full theater but I was set on having a good time with or at the expense of the film, and I did, but the film actually delivered.

Freaky Friday has a brisk pace and plenty of laughs to entertain even those who dread seeing this remake. Both Curtis and Lohan are wonderful in the lead roles. Sure the film is predictable and a bit generic, but, like Ebert, I saw surprised how much you actually feel for these characters. Theyre interesting to watch and developed past what youd expect in this sort of movie.

Highlightscene: "Pink Slip"s performance at the House of Blues. When Anna started waving her arms the whole crowd was going hysterical, and the scene was also, dare i say it, touching. and most surprising of all, Annas band didnt suck!

Freaky Friday is one of the most enjoyable comedies of the summer, or hell, the year. (keep in mind its been a slow year, but still)

He was saying he was trying to imagine it with an R rating - me thinks he is referring to the characters having sex in each others bodies. And it isn't the R-rating that is smutty - it is Roger Ebert. He was buddies with Russ Meyer for years at his height, I think that says it all.

Just felt like saying it - Freaky Friday is the best reviewed movie to be released this year in a major distribution. Is that right, or did I miss someone that had a better rottentomatoes "fresh" rating?

If I switched bodies with someone, I'd probably have sex too. Well, as long as I switched bodies with someone that looked as good as me :D.

Just think, if you were a teenager and you switched bodies with an adult, you could have sex with an adult and it wouldn't be illegal. Or if you were an adult and switched with a teenager, you could have sex with another teenager and it wouldn't be illegal. That's kind of interesting. I actually wonder what an R-rated "body switch" movie would be like. The ones now really aren't that realistic, although it's understandable since they are mostly family-oriented. I wouldn't mind seen a R-rated independent "body switch" movie :).

Oh come on, you know you were thinking it too ;).

I was thinking the same thing when they switched. I also thought she could take drugs and not harm herself and do other naughty stuff because its not on her :D BTW I'd have sex too ;)

I was going to see SWAT tonight but I dont think I can take another bad blow-em-up film. I think Ill see Friday again and see how well it hold up and wait for SWAT on video.

I went into this very skeptical because of it a being a remake and all but I have to say that Freaky Friday was a really good movie. It's the best comedy that I have seen this summer with stellar lead performances by Lohan and Curtis and stylish direction by Mark Waters. See this movie and you won't regret it.

I must add another positive review. This is a really fun film, with two great comedic performances by Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsey Lohan, who are buoyed by a well written script. It is a formulaic movie, and there is a speech given near the end that is a teensy bit treacly, but this was one of the more enjoyable movie going experiences since, well, forever.

Grade: 7/10

Just saw it.....it was pretty good. Although the original was better (8/10), this was charming, funny, and very VERY enjoyable. An extremely good time I had at the theatres.

7/10

Wow, what a cute film. I love Jamie Lee Curtis and only saw it for her. And she stole the show. Cute, oh so cute movie.

When I first heard about this film I thought it sounded like crap. But as time went on, I started to warm up on it. When the first trailer came out, however, I lost all faith. Nevertheless, I still went and saw it, and boy was it good. It was cute, funny, refreshing, and well acted. Really, what a nice surprise this was. Both Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan (who is quite the looker, by the way), were excellent in their roles, and the supporting cast were all fine too. The screenplay was surprisingly sharp and witty, and the director added some great touches to it. All in all, this is a great family film and one not to be missed by all ages.
