************* Spoilers below *************
I see that movie bashed alot on these boards, I've just got a question for all you people that don't like it out there. While not the best in the series, I don't think it's anywhere near the worst either.
My question is this. If this movie had no connotation to Jason or the "Friday" series, would you still hate it? I mean this movie has all the good slasher elements as far as I'm concerned. You've got lots of gore, horny teens, gratuitous butt and tit shots throughout, some scary moments, what's the problem?
Are you people just pissed about the ending or what? If Jason had turned out to be the killer, would you still feel the same way? I'm just curious.

Personally I enjoyed this one. I also don't get why people bash it. I personally think that Jason X is the worst but that's just me. But yeah your right it does have good elements. I guess people got too attached to Jason to have someone else do the killing.

I agree all the way except I say Friday the 13th Part 7 is the worst. Part 5 is a good movie and to me it really didn't matter that Jason wasn't doing the killing.

I always thought "Friday 5" was one of the best in the series! Mostly for the 80`s kitsch element, but also the super-high bodycount!
And who could forget Violet`s robot dance?
So the killer wasn`t Jason at the very end, so what? It may as well have been Jason the whole time, it was a guy in a hockey mask killing goofy 80`s characters.
And plus it still had a connection to the previous movies with the Tommy Jarvis storyline.

That Violet and her robot dance were damn sexy.

I agree. It's not the best in the series in terms of quality, but it's definitely not the worst either. It's my personal favourite in terms of entertainment value. The outrageous characters, enormous bodycount, and of course, Violet's robot dance. I think that when it comes to this entry, the horror fans are divided into two camps. The Jason worshippers, who see this entry as sacrilege, and the horror fans who just watch the Friday films for pure entertainment, and have no emotional attachment to Jason.

In general, I have WAY worse things to say about Jason X than I do Friday 5. I think that the creator of this thread has also raised a very good point. Friday 5 IS a decent slasher flick.

Friday 5 is a favorite here too. GREAT Deaths, tons of nudity, everything the Friday series is about. Speaking of Violet, her original death was a machete between the legs!!! The Mpaa found it "offensive" so thats why we only now get to see her turning around

For a long time I hated this movie. I watched it again recently and I didn't hate it that much.

Yeah I`ve heard about that before.
Strange to kill her like that, as her character was not sexually active (in the movie) at all.

I liked the first FRIDAY movie and the third one. I found the second and fourth decent. After that, I hated the series. It became WAY TOO generic for my tastes. It became practically the same thing everytime, no matter what little extra twists they threw in. Part 7 has so much promise for me, too. I think I was only able to enjoy JASON X because it didn't try to hide what it truly was. It knew exactly what it was. So, I was able to enjoy it for the most part. Besides that, I hated parts 5-9. Also, even though I found the second and fourth decent, you won't catch me dead watching those either because they were a little too idiotic for my tastes at times. Come on! You don't just stand up against the wall (right next to a door I might add) begging for mercy when you can run out the door and get out of the damn house! If a body is hanging in the doorway or just lying on the porch, jump over it or knock it out of the way! Don't waste time by trying to get out the window because of a body. Honestly. Well, you might catch me watching part 4 because it has Crispin Glover in it.
Also, I will admit Violet's robot dance was cool.

I've grown to appreciate this entry in my favorite Horror franchise a little more as the years have gone by.
At first I was one of those "what? no jason?" types but as I watched it a efw more times I started thinking "this is actually a good idea" I mean, say a guy goes crazy, what better way of getting away with his crimes then mimicking a famous killer? Everyone would suspect Jason and not him.
As a stand alone slasher, it was pretty damn good too, as my fellow horror schmoes pointed out, all the ingredients were there.
I find it odd, sometimes horror fans complain about nothing fresh or exciting and then they try to take a series in a different direction and people scream "no, those aren't the rules, that's not how it's supposed to work"....no winning sometimes I guess...

I like F13th 5 even if Jason is not the killer, it was a fun movie, not boring at all and a good bodycount.
I have a question is Tommy Jarvis a murderer or not? ( second time I ask for that !!! )
I ask that because of the last scene.

Possible Spoiler
Tommy is not the killer. It was probably just the girls dream. Remember because she dreamt of him stabbing her and he laughed. So it was more and likely a dream or Tommy just did that to scare her and ran off.

Hmmm, it seems that all the Friday 5 haters have crept back into the shadows. I guess I'm just that convincing huh?;)
Seriously, I was hoping to get responses from those who don't like it, whether or not they would if Jason was actually in the movie. I may have to go rent this puppy now.

Yes I hate it it because its not Jason. The movie is fine all the way through but they had to go and ruin it it with it not being old J.....and some will say, who cares....well I do....if it isnt Jason, it isnt Friday. They ripped us off. I can watch it. Its not a bad slasher flick compared to others....but it IS a let down and a joke in the series.......WHY?....damn momey hungry bastards!

I don't see how they were doing this to save money. They still had to hire an actor.
I think they just hadnt gone into the whole supernatural zombie Jason yet and wanted to make the series more logical so a fifth one could be made. Since Jason was definitely dead they tried using a new identity.

Definately not as bad as Part 7, JGTH, or Jason X...
But watching any movie that has a character seriously doing the robot dance in it makes me want to slam my head into a concrete wall.
Some of the characters were more laughable than serious in the film, and over-all it seemed highly like a B- film to me. From the acting to the cinematography I didn't care for this film all too much.

This is the 2nd best movie in the series. It's so entertaining, the characters are stupid but I still love them. The robot dance is the greatest dance ever. Part 4 is better, but this rocks ass like a big sweaty black man in prison.

Thanks for the feedback my fellow horror/sports schmoe. I can see where die hard fans would be upset that it wasn't Jason. I was kind of put off myself the first time I saw it, but I've grown to like it as time went on.

I feel exactly the same way, although by this time, Jason was running low on gas I felt, and I suppose the studio wanted to try something new. Needless to say, Paramount knows jack shit when it comes to horror movies. The only thing IMO that saved this series from going the way of Halloween or TCM was Part 6.

I agree, except I kinda like Part 7.

ALL the characters were laughable sterotypes if you ask me - but that just makes it better in it`s 80`s way - just like the bikers in Part 3.

i kinda dug this movie because it had Suicide from Return of the Living Dead in it, and i'm a fan of any and every horror movie...especially one w/ "Friday the 13th" in the title
..but..
if you do have a movie w/ "Friday the 13th" in the title and Jason doesnt even exist in it, then i dont like it NEAR as much as the others
it looks like alot of you didnt like part 7 but i loved it..it was after Jason comes up from being in the water for so long so it was the first time he had the rotted ragged cloths look
but my fave is part 3...originally in 3D, first one w/ the hockey mask, and a cool ending
