I thought Se7en was a brilliant film. Great acting, directing and a superb script... My favorite part was the ending. It really got to me, but in a good way.

This was a pretty good movie, but I saw the ending coming a mile away. But it definitely was a good movie. The scene that really stayed in my mind is the "LUST" murder.

I thought that Se7en was a great movie. Cool concept, great cast, and awesome acting. I thought Kevin Spacey as John Doe was an awesome choice. For some reason, he reminded me of John Malcovich's character from In the Line of Fire. He had that creepiness to him that gave his character the needed serial killer presence. Morgan Freeman, as always, plays his character perfectly. Brad Pitt does his job as the hothead partner cop to a T, and his chemistry with Freeman is awesome. Great effects job all around. Here's some trivia for the movie, courtesy of IMDB (http://www.imdb.com):
While filming the scene where Mills chases John Doe in the rain, Brad Pitt fell and his arm went through a car windscreen, requiring surgery. This accident was worked into the script of the film.
The autopsy of the first killing, as originally scripted was incorrect, according to the research of makeup man Rob Bottin (who viewed a real human autopsy as part of his prep work). The scene was truncated from the original script and shows only the sewn-up corpse of Gluttony, not the actual autopsy.
The victim tied to the bed for a year was not an animatronic model, but a very skinny actor made up to look even more corpse-like. Bottin used a set of exaggerated teeth to make the head look smaller and more shrunken from malnutrition.
Originally, Somerset (Morgan Freeman) drew his pistol with his finger on the trigger. Police officers that were on the set as technical advisors quickly corrected him, as that is not correct police procedure.
Somerset's office number, 714, is also Joe Friday's badge number as shown in the background of the closing credits in the old TV series, Dragnet.
Shortly before shooting John Doe, a flash of Mills' wife's face appears on the screen, a technique that David Fincher uses again in Fight Club.
The prison jumpsuit John Doe wears at the end of the film has the words "Bardach County Jail" written on it. Elinor Bardach was the costume supervisor for this movie.
One version of the script contained a few scenes following the final confrontation between the detectives and John Doe. In one Somerset is recovering in the hospital after being shot by Mills, and the captain delivers a letter to him from Mills which reads, "You were right. You were right about everything."
The original script had a strange, dwarf-like woman as part of the forensics team, appearing in every one of the "cleanups" after a murder and hurling foul language and epithets at Somerset and Mills.
The screenplay had references to a partner Mills had when he still lived in the country, named Parsons. Parsons was shot and killed while on a bust with Mills, and consequently Mills is overprotective of Somerset in some scenes. All references to Parsons were deleted before shooting began.
A rejected version of the credits had the same scratchy handwriting and a Coil remix of Nine Inch Nails' "Closer to God", but used static images instead of the jumpy, blurred footage used currently. (This credit sequence is in the Criterion laserdisc supplement section.)
New Line executives originally balked at the film's ending, but Brad Pitt refused to make the film if the ending were changed.
The name of the city in which the movie takes place is never mentioned.
Speaking of the ending, I felt that this was the only thing wrong with the film. Sure, the ending was a good one, but it was a downer in my view. Sure, Pitt gets his revenge on Spacey, but in doing so, he succumbs to Spacey's ultimate plan. In that way, the good guys lose. I don't know about you guys, but I just can't stand these downer endings, unless you know that they are going to be rectified in a sequel. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like there will be a sequel to this movie. Too bad. Aside from the downer ending, this movie gets the go ahead from me. If you can find the DVD, I would suggest you go out and get it NOW. This DVD has some cool supplements (namely the colouring correction featurette that shows just how good New Line is at treating its movies) and 4 commentaries to boot! An awesome buy for sure!

Very good movie. One of the few movies I liked Brad Pitt in (others were the shit classic Cutting Class and Fight Club) anyway he and Morgan Freeman were great in this movie. Good acting, good plot and overall a very good movie.

I felt the ending suited it because if they had done it any other way, they would have broken Pitt's character. But tby doing what they did, they stayed true to what most likely would have happened.

Agreed. I thought that the ending, even though I saw it coming, suited this dark movie to a T. If they'd gone another direction and wussed out I don't think that it would have been half as powerful.

Is it just me or does anyone else think someone other than Brad should have been chosen for the part? He's an excellent actor but he just didn't fit in here.

Yeah, I guess if you look at it that way, but seriously, in real life, would you do the same thing if u were in that position, letting the bad guy win? I guess it's how you look at vengeance and whether or not it's justified. For me, it isn't. The bad guy wins, killing them doesn't bring back anyone or anything and you sink to their level.

Se7en was an excellent film! The acting was good and the story blew me away. Everyone seemed to say everything that I could think of in regards to why they enjoyed this film. I'd have to say that the part with Pitt, Freeman and Spacey in the car with Spacey giving his speach was my ultimate fav. I rated this in another post and seeing as how I can't remember I'll post my rating for it now. 9/10. The only thing I didn't like was that in some parts of the movie I thought the scenes were too dark and very straining on my eyes. But hey, thats jes' me.

Se7en is an excellent movie. Great acting, great script by Andy Walker, and one demented fuck played to perfection by the always reliable Kevin Spacey.
Se7en is directed to perfection by David Fincher, and it remains one of the best serial killer/cop movies ever. Fans of Se7en should also check out "Resurrection".....this is also a very stylish, dark and gloomy serial killer movie but if you can believe this....it's actually more gruesome than Se7en. A definite must see.

Se7en has been ripped off numerous times and nothing comes close to it. Resurrection is a good film and certainly gory but doesn't hold a candle to Fincher's masterpiece. Leland Orser is in both films and is great in both.

I watched it yesterday for the first time and when i heard what people were saying about it i thought it would have been really really good and it was. After seeing this i must say that Kevin Spacey is the best actor ever, he was really really creepy, the murders made you quite sick especially the first one (i was eating pizza at the time) the ending was good although like most people i kinda expected it. The shootout scenes were very well done.
9/10

One of my all-time favorite movies. The cast did a great job in this movie, as did Fincher. The ending was my favorite part:
POSSIBLE SPOILER
"Oh. He didn't know!"
Also, I liked the Sloth death. When
SPOILER
the body all of the sudden moves on the bed, I jump every time, even though I've already seen this movie 3 or 4 times.

Loved this flick - It had such a great atmosphere, and I liked the way it was always pissing it down with rain just as in Blade Runner.

i really like one of the otehr endings better. Same thing, different performance. For some reason that whoel "Oh God! Oh God!" crap gets really annoying. In da other oen freeman talks to him, doe says 'he didnt know' and he just, well, you know.

I had my first time watch of Se7en this week and you can include me in the bandwagon of schmoes who thought it was brilliant. It's nice to see a gem like this come out of the 90's. A time that I generally regard as pretty weak for horror/thrillers.
I really enjoyed the dynamic between Freeman and Pitt. The more seasoned play it by the book cop with the younger hot headed partner. Kevin Spacey as John Doe was +A as well.
Like most others I thought the ending was pretty hard hitting and I can't say I blame Pitt's character for taking that kind of action. The fucker killed his wife and unborn child and relished it. I think he actually got off easy. Sure he WANTED to get killed but so what? I'm not saying I would personally do the same thing but I can understand where he was coming from and don't pass judgment.
Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

Much like The Silence of the Lambs, I think Se7en is much more just a thriller but is sometimes considered horror because of its gruesome content. Regardless, it's David Fincher's only masterpiece and one of my favorite movies of all time.

I think that Seven is a great thriller. To me it's more disturbings at some points then gory.

Seven is one of 3 movies i've ever given a 10/10.
I've viewed this at least a dozen times and it still gets my attention every time.
It's just the atmosphere it creates that makes this an excellant flick. The scene with the rotted guy tied to the bed is built up with all the cops coming into the room and all those air fresheners hanging from the ceiling. It's shit like that that makes this movie so creepy.
As far as a fave scene goes,i'll throw in the one where John Doe turns himself into the precinct covered in blood yelling "Detective"!

quite the breakthru year for Spacey, both this and usual suspects...
I am so sick of this movie, god I've seen it so many times... My favorite of David Finchers movies. I also really loved the scene where John Doe turns himself in... Love the opening credits, love how its never said who John Doe is (who plays him).
the interrogation scene really makes me feel uncomfortable, and the ending is great. Fincher/Walker did a good job of hinting everything to you and not straight up showing it, therefor you know what happens before the actors, causing you to only go 'god no'.
