This comes from multiple sources; Amazon, DVD Review, etc...All three are getting released August 26th. Here are the specs on the Special Editions:

I was only planning on picking up Desperado, but that box set looks badass!

EDIT: After some further research, I have a few more details that make this all the more interesting a release. Yes, the two individual Special Editions have virtually the same features as the already-available "Double Feature" DVD with both Mariachi and Desperado. However, the double feature disc is priced at around $40 new, while it seems the new Collector's Box Set, with both movies and all the same special features, is priced around $15 cheaper (depending on the seller). So you're getting the same stuff with separate packaging, a lower price, and a pretty bitchin' box.

these are brand new SPECIAL EDITIONS... not same features as the split disk. The give away there is the fact that they have the special making of Once Upon A Time In Mexico on Desperado!

But won't there just be another box set after ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO comes out?

There probably will be but it won't have new transfers/features than these 2 have. I'm just guessing here.

I'm sure there will be another box set with the trilogy once ... Mexico is available on DVD. That could be one reason to wait.

Plus, these are the exact same features as the split disc, except for the additional info on the soon-to-be-released Once Upon a Time in Mexico.

Anatomy of a shootout - I don't remember if this is on my split disc or not (I'm not at home for a couple more weeks, so I can't just look at it sitting on my shelf).... However, in the commentary Rodriguez kept talking about how he had to keep editing the violence down for the MPAA, and so he didn't even bother SHOWING the final shootout.

I will only replace Desperado if the whole entire final shootout is included on the disc.

I want a SPECIAL EDITION DIRECTOR'S CUT!!

Those are pretty shitty extra features for pretty decent movies.

Did some more research...it seems the new box set is CONSIDERABLY CHEAPER than the "Double Feature" DVD! Look up in my first post for the whole story...

You know, This is available at Tower for 40.00 some odd dollars and on line for 30.00 or more, but I found the original directors double feature with the commentaries, short film Bedhead, 10 minute film schools, etc... at WAL MART the other day for 14.44!!!!
What a deal! Don't waste your money for 2 seperate discs when all you get is a sneak look at ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO, which is probably the same short on both new discs probably lasting 5 minutes....keep looking for the old version, if I can find it for under 20.00...so can you!!!!!

I'm getting the box set, mos def. I only have the Superbit of Desperado which is Sans commentary and features so I won't mind buying it again for the extra features and whatnot.

These are the SAME specs as the double package already out. The only difference is the Once Upon a Time in Mexico stuff.
