I am DEFINITELY looking forward to this - especially after reading Fango's cover article on it in last month's issue. Sounds like a hoot. I'm sure that I'm not alone, but I'm REALLY digging this retro horror groove that's going on right now - you know, a return to the 70s/early-80s feel of genre flicks. Does anyone know yet what kinda release this puppy's supposed to get. Will it be as big as 28 Days Later? Probably not. I loved that flick, but I have a feeling that the only reason that particular zombie romp had that big a release (before the positive word of mouth, of course) was because it had an experienced director (Boyle) at the helm.

I am LOVING the trailers for this movie and I cannot wait for this. I'm having a hard time waiting until september to see this because by then i'll be gone to college and I know for a fact it's coming to my home town, but I'm not sure about the town my college is in. But the trailer looks AMAZING and i'm really digging it.

I'm taking Friday 15th August off work so I can go see Freddy Vs Jason in the afternoon, then travel through to Edinburgh because I promisedmy friend there I would go with him to see Freddy Vs Jason (again), then I've booked tickets to see Cabin Fever that night at the Edinburgh Film Festival!
Will let you schmoes know how good it is... :)

I think that this looks good but not great. I'll still see it for sure in theatres because I love horror films. Yes, it's getting a wide release of over 1,500 theatres according to Lions Gate themselves so most theatres should get it. I think that it will not perform very well at the box office because of a bland teaser and it being quite violent. Who knows though? It also has the task of opening only two weeks after Jeepers Creepers 2 and four weeks after Freddy vs. Jason. By then will people be burned out on horror films?

I got excited while reading the interview with Eli Roth (the director of Cabin Fever) in Rue Morgue. He also did this thing with the movies that influenced him, he loves the genre so much the movie can't suck.

actually, the movie i am most anticipating is the "Alien" rerelease. i have waited for years to see this fantastic horror gem on the big screen. this is like a dream come true for me.
Besides that, Cabin Fever is my most anticipated, along with Gothika.

Eli Roth is the new future of horror. Just like Clive Barker back in 87. Eli is a long time horror fan and i know hes going to deliver the goods in terms of horror. Cabin Fever is going to prove that when it comes out. We need more people like him in our beloved horror field people who understand and respect the genra. I wish him all the luck.

SPOILERS FOR THE OPENING OF CABIN FEVER
I heard that the opening scene is a bum who is getting his dog to go with him but it's laying on the ground. He tells it to get up but it won't. He lifts up one of the legs and the gogs guts spill all over the place and blood goes all over the guy. Sounds disgustingly good.

A little info......
If you go to the main site at www.cabinfevermovie.com you can watch clips from the films. After each clip if you send an e-mail to someone you will get the unedited version of the clip from the movie. Do it then watch the uncensored version. If you want to see the rest in the url change the number after op=.
There are 4 clips and I watched them all. The shaving one really got to me. yikes!

This is the best film I've seen this year. I just thought it was really funny, and subverts what you'd expect from a film like this. And it has "The Road leads to nowhere" as it's end title song. I just loved it. 10/10

Finally back from Edinburgh after seeing Freddy Vs Jason 3 times and the UK premiere of Cabin Fever.
I must echo what JCR said and state that this is the best film I've seen this year.
The comedy comes thick and fast and the gore's great. I'd even go so far as to say it rivals (if not surpasses) Evil Dead. And that's a bold statement even for me.
If you never trust me again my fellow schmoes, at least trust me this once:
You must see this film or your ability to call yourself a "horror fan" will be meaningless.

I'm sooooooo excited about this movie. I generally don't buy into hype, but I don't see how this movie won't be at least a good time at the cinema.
Too bad its coming out on such a busy weekend.... I want to see this, House of the Dead, Once Upon a Time in Mexico and Matchstick Men... Most of my friends are non-horror fans so I won't have trouble with Mexico and Matchstick men, but getting them out to two OTHER movies that weekend... We'll see.
Anyways... Yeah... I haven't been this excited about a horror movie in a while!
XCoRyX
08-21-2003, 12:12 PM
hm...it DOES open with Cold Creek Manor which I believe shall do nice money, though I think personally looks stupid.Once Upon A Time In Mexico will make alright cash, nothing big,in my prediction,Matchstick Men I ain't sure about....but this could pull a House Of 1000 Corpses and still, even if not #1 at box office, could pull in surprisingly nice cash and a good per screen average....i see it getting a 1200+ theater push....
rtatick
08-21-2003, 12:15 PM
Nevermind about House of the Dead the same day, I don't know what I was thinking... It was Cold Creek Manor... I could probably wait a week or two to see that one. Still, Cabin Fever is at the top of my list!

Scully a question.............
I saw a part of an interview with Eli and he was talking about the little kid and his kung fu moves and such and how he put it in the movie even though it wasn't part of the script at all.
I'm just curious as to why they keep chatting about the kid and his kung fu and pancakes?

08-21-2003, 06:35 PM
someguy...i got a promotional DVD with all the trailers, behind the scenes footage and the footage of the karate kid doing fucking moves and shit with some punk music in the background,it said who is bill (not sure if its bill) and why does he love pancakes? and it says see cabin fever this fall for the answer....
I got confused as fuck, how the hell would that fit in with this type of flick...?????

Apologies for not replying for a while.
The kid isn't in the film much, only really at the start (before the characters get to the cabin) and at the end (before the end credits).
As for kung fu and pancakes, I vaguely remember something about that, but better was his biting ability! :D
The only problem with this film is that there's so much good stuff throughout the film that the great stuff at the start is replaced in your memory by the constant strem of great stuff that continues throughout. So I could tell you a lot about the end, but it'll take me another view of the film to remember the details.
Needless to say, when it's out I'll be taking another 2 or 3 views!

I was just scanning through HOuse of 1000 corpses DVD {the movie was so-so} and i came across the uypcoming trailers for movies {cabin fever is one of them] and i must say that this movie looks very good  .I seriously was more interested in seeing that trailer aghain and again than watching house of 1000 corpses for a 2nd time. {actually all i really did was watch the part with :spoiler: fishboy...brrr creepy:end spoiler: and other good parts}. That movie has that evil dead vibe going on and that movie creeeped me out so i hope this movie does too. Arrow says the movie is good and what arrow says is mostly correct in my point of view.

I'm thinking 1,500. Lion's Gate is admirable when it comes to selecting films, but when it comes to distributing them...that's another story altogether. They need to take more risks.

Sounds like another boring horror cliche fest , with the obligatory , insufferable , stock , assembly line high school / college characters , and the violent backwoods " hicks " ( are there any other kind in a horror film ? ) .
Why did this film take a reported 7 years to finish , does it really take that long to " create " a film that obviously rips off so many other films . And why oh why is P Jackson singing it's praises ? Eh Pete , i think you've been spending a bit too much time in Middle Earth and not the actual one , this guy is bonkers .
This film gives me the scream feeling for some reason , and although people are saying it's much gorier than some of those other " teen " horror films , i can almost guarantee that it features the same cinematic senseabilities that are inherent in those types of films .
It doesn't sound horrible , but i consider it an instant rental , and please horror shmoes , get a hold of yourself , it's not going to be amazing or anything , no matter what some critics say or even O'L PJ himself .

What I got from the trailers,
was that it would be a flesh
eating virus type thing,
no back woods, inbred
people killing anyone.
The end of the trailers even
said Catch It. What, were you
expecting them to "catch it"
as in catch the killer?
While yes it does have
a cast of college or high school
teens, it doesn't, nor should it
be a Scream Knock-off.
But you are entitled to your
opinions, but like the two shmoes
before me said, wait till you see it
before giving it the boot.
Or even wait till some kind shmoe
gives a review, or try Arrows review.
Just my thoughts.
I'll shut up now. :D

Cabin Fever looks like an amazing horror film. Hopefully all the hype is true and I sincerely hope that in the end, this is a unique and stylish flick. I'm sick of the self-aware horror films, they had their time now lets move onto the next. My hope is that more gory horror flicks will get made. Every year has it's fair share of gore-fests (this year has been quite good) but I'm looking for something a bit more surreal. I'll be seeing this on Friday and reviewing it (of course). I've got my fingers crossed.
Oh, and is it just me or does the movie give off a really creepy vibe? Not to those who have seen the film but just the trailer, the site, the story and the pictures. For some reason this movie gets to me and I don't know why...

The characters are fresh and original, I felt attached to many of them emotionally (and I don't usually do that when I know they're likely to die by the end of the film), the story is certainly not a boring cliche and it is dealt with in an excellent way, with many twists coming when you least expect them (a number of these twists even brought a smile to my normally hard-to-please face).
and the violent backwoods " hicks " ( are there any other kind in a horror film ? )
Maybe not, but there are no "backwoods" hicks in this one, and the hillbillies at the start of the film are certainly not violent. Furthermore, they only appear for about 5-10 minutes then we're left to the main characters and the virus in the woods. So I don't know where you're getting that from.
Why did this film take a reported 7 years to finish , does it really take that long to " create " a film that obviously rips off so many other films .
Not everyone can stroll into a big studio, say "I need 10 million dollars" and get it. It may not have taken 7 years to shoot, but it could have taken 7 years from start to finish, including raising the money for it. And as for it "obviously" ripping off so many other films? What percentage of the film have you seen? A trailer? So about 1% of the film? And by this 1% you assume that the other 99% is cliched? My friend, I have seen approximately 99% more than you have (in other words, the full thing) and I can guarantee this movie is fresh and original and comparisons to films such as The Evil Dead and Texas Chainsaw Massacre are only to suggest what level of quality this film is on, not a simple comparison of "this rips them off because they're in the woods".
And why oh why is P Jackson singing it's praises ? Eh Pete , i think you've been spending a bit too much time in Middle Earth and not the actual one , this guy is bonkers .
He's seen it, you haven't. When you see it, you'll step down.
This film gives me the scream feeling for some reason , and although people are saying it's much gorier than some of those other " teen " horror films , i can almost guarantee that it features the same cinematic senseabilities that are inherent in those types of films .
Can you now? Well I can guarantee the opposite. "Teen" horror films have big jumps every 2 seconds... Cabin Fever has only one big jump, and it IS a shocker, not some cheap thing like a guy coming into the frame. The part you see in the trailer (where the main character is looking into a window and a hand touches his shoulder) is not really played out like that in the movie, that trailer has been sexed up to attract the teen audience. The actual film, on the other hand, is magnificent and doesn't rely on cheap shots like that. So again you're wrong my friend.
It doesn't sound horrible , but i consider it an instant rental , and please horror shmoes , get a hold of yourself , it's not going to be amazing or anything , no matter what some critics say or even O'L PJ himself .
You consider it an instant rental, and yet you haven't seen it? People usually consider things an "instant rental" if they've read decent reviews about it (not great ones) and think "ehhhh it sounds alright, maybe I'll wait and rent it". Practically every review of Cabin Fever on the other hand (including Peter Jackson's, Arrow's and (like anyone cares :)) mine) has sung its praises, declaring it excllent. Do you think Arrow or Peter Jackson would have rated it so highly if it was a teen flick full of cliches? No, these guys know their stuff, and they (like me) like to see a film that throws something new into this MTV generation, and Cabin Fever does just that.
To put all I've said above in a shorter message - If you haven't seen it, don't bash it, because you are bitterly wrong on this occasion.
But hey - that's just my opinion :)

Oh, and is it just me or does the movie give off a really creepy vibe? Not to those who have seen the film but just the trailer, the site, the story and the pictures. For some reason this movie gets to me and I don't know why...
I have to agree with Matt as usual. The movie does kinda provide a creepy vibe. I think its because the trailer gives away so little. It gives you enough to reel you in but it doesn't give anything away. You know most trailers you watch them and you've basically watched the movie. With this one it just kinda let's your imagination takes control. My opinion

I think that has a lot to do with it. The film is sort of suggesting a lot things without being blunt about them. I think it also has to do with the realistic approach the film takes on. The threat of a virus is much more scary than any Jason Voorhees or Michael Myers.

Kinda reminds me of Final Destination with a killer u cant fight but even in that they found ways of avoiding death and when death did find them it killed them in so over the top ways it took the fear out of the movie. This looks much for gritty and to the point.
(I did love the FD movies just staiting that they werent really scary)
Besides im a sucker for movies that take place in cabins in the woods, from Evil Dead to Dog Soldiers!:D

Same here, love cabin flicks.
I know what you mean about the FD flicks. Although they were fun and had some moments of fright, they didn`t scare me. I`ve been waiting ages to see a film that says "fuck all that normal bullshit, lets make the film how we want". You can`t fight a new virus right away, it takes time to develop a cure. You don`t stand around a person who has a highly contagious disease, you lock them in the fucking shed. It`s ignorant yes, but it`s also realistic.
Review up this weekend.

Arrow told us before posting that quote that he was giving us a teaser of the whole thing. He was going to post the whole interview nearer the release of Cabin Fever (ie this week sometime), but he thought that quote was excellent and worth revealing to the Schmoes. The interview's still coming, that was just a sneak preview from it.

The Arrow's "site" is, and will always be, right here: http://www.joblo.com/arrow/
The interview with Eli Roth was up on Sunday night at midnight, right where all of the Arrow's interviews are every week, under the KILLER KOOL STUFF area of his front page. You do visit his actual site and not just the message board, right? ;) The area you are in now is the discussion forums...not the actual Arrow in the Head site. There's brief nudity toward the beginning, but people aren't fucking every five minutes (I know it's a hyperbole, but still, there's no sex at all). I'm not sure where he got that.

Well, it all started 10 years ago when the script was written by Eli Roth due to an experience similar to that in Cabin Fever. He had a flesh eating virus that only lasted like a few days but a huge piece of skin came off his face. 3 years later the movie was started but due to cut backs and stuff the movie has taken seven years in total to be made. In 2002, the film was shown in festivals and was picked up by Lions Gate who's now releasing it worldwide.

I'm looking forward to this, mainly because of the reviews. When a horror flick gets good reviews, then that usually means it's gonna' be a pretty awesome experience. From the interview it seemed like the guy knew jack-shit about horror, only it's stereotypes (constant Tn'A and buckets of blood are why the mainstream people consider horror the bastard genre), but, once again, the reviews make me think differently.
Should be a good movie.

Yeah, I'm growing weary of these misguided generalizations. If an R-rated horror film can suck, then a PG-13 film can be miraculous. I'm not sure why Roth equates balls-to-the-wall horror with excessive gore and nudity. It’s all in the atmosphere.

I thought the movie was great! Very original, kicks the hell out of Evil Dead. The characters were very well done and totally believable. The atmosphere was my favorite part of the movie. GREAT atmosphere, really get you ready for Fall. The gore was actually pretty cool and necessary. Not really scary, just some jump scares. A GREAT score, very cool. Just all in all a really good movie. I got a really big Wrong Turn vibe throughout it, which is good news.
Just a really good, entertaining movie.

Holy. . .Shit. This movie was Evil Dead all over again for me. Wow, what a great movie! There's so many references to Evil Dead from the blood drenched main character to the 'Shemp' and 'Fake Shemp' in the credits. This has to be one of the most pleasant surprises I've seen this year. It almost beats FvsJ. Great effects and hilarious bits make this a keeper for sure. True, some parts were kinda dumb, namely that damn Dennis kid. Why the hell didn't he knock the brat out when he was doing his karate thang? Plus the pissed off neighbour thing was stupid. I would've gone back there and pleaded again. SCREW YOUR WIFE, PAL. I'M FRIGGIN' DYING HERE! Plus, like Arrow, I didn't like this ending. I know it seemed kinda NOTLD, but jeez, why couldn't Eli Roth let one of them live, particularily Paul, since he seemed to be the 'Ash' of this film. Who knows, maybe Eli will pull an ED 2 and make it up that Paul survives or something. But whatever the case, I WANT MORE! BRING ON THE DVD AND A SEQUEL! A truly scary and kickass film. Dare I say it: The Evil Dead of the new millennium!

Cabin Fever-7.5/10
What a fun time. I wouldn't call it the comeback of horror or anything but it is a fun time. I must warn people though that DO NOT GO IN EXPECTING ANYTHING. I heard the word on this film and was excited. But then I saw the trailer and thought it looked like crap. Then I saw a couple of movie clips on the internet and I got excited again. Even though I was excited again when I walked in the theatre I forgot about it all and let the movie take me for the ride.
That's the problem happening now people are expecting things from movies and then they'll get let down and won't like the movie. That irks me everytime that happens. Don't expect something. Just walk in and forget everything. Come on people!
Sorry about that mini rant there but anyways back to the movie. The movie was just too odd and bizarre that I liked it. The General Store people, the deputy and many others brought some good humour to the film.
The cast was good. Rider Strong was not very good at the beginning but evolved as time went on. And yes Boy Meets World was a thing of the past after this. Jordan Ladd was good too. I'm just curious since Eli must be either great friends with her now or really like her since he likes to talk about her yet she is barely seen in the promotions(except for a couple of parts). Cerina Vincent was good too here and I was surprised that she was the one showing nudity(thought it would be Ladd). Joey Kern was good too at the time he had and reminded me of myself with his whole paranoia germs thing(I'm not crazy on it I just dont like certain things). James DeBello was funny here. Liked his character a lot. Nearly everyone was good here.
Although one thing I am shocked at was the realism on how the teens acted at the beginning. Me and my friends call each other retard and gay and stuff so it just made the characters more normal(and likeable). I also liked the N-word jokes too since me and other people I know always call each other that as a joke.
The film wasn't scary. Not very much except for one scene. I laughed at how Eli said that his scares weren't those ones where the guy would jump in the frame and go boo or something because it had a lot of those here. I think the only scary part of the film was how quickly the friends turned on each other. Plus I wouldn't call this film gory. I would call it squeamish(that shaving scene)and maybe grotesque(or a word that means something that would make you go ewwwwww). So overall a nice entertainig flick. Not something that would resurrect the horror genre but a very enjoyable film.

Actually, the Flesh Eating Virus already lives on each and every one of us. Its a latent bacteria that lives on our skin, but at some point, for reasons still unknown, the bacteria begins to emit a toxin, which causes the deteroration of the skin in just a matter of days, after it takes the skin it goes after the organs, and at this point, you would be in too much pain to move, much less make it to the hospital. The only way to beat it is cut off the infected area, and if it spreads to your organs your outta luck. However, I dont actually think it is contagious. And i havent ever heard of it being transmitted sexually or through fluid contact.
Little anatomy lesson there.

No, I think it was a guy in a bunny suit visiting a kid in his room to make him feel better. They do things like that all the time in our local hospital. It just looked very eerie to him because he was very out of it.

Pigmies! Actually, you need a deep puncture wound to become infected with group A hemolytic strep to start the "necrotizing fascitis" - it won't just "happen" to you and no, it is most definitely NOT contagious. This is the same bacterium that gives you "strep throat"

HI, this is strait from director Eli Roth as Eli ansewered these questions when I was at the Fantasia film festivel.
1. Someone's Q. What Was in the box?
Eli- "His Soul"
2. Someome's Q-What was with the bunneyman
Eli- "we'll never tell."
By the way Eli has said in interviews that the bunneyman is a homage to The Shining.
What it was thier in context of the plot, I don't know but I think it was a hullucination.

What was up with the "pancake!" Was he delusional? And the rabbit doctor... what that a delusion too? Pancake made me laugh SO hard! It was hilarious!
And the deer through the windshield, that part could have been left out imo. I didn't know whether I was supposed to be laughing at this movie or not, but at many parts I was. Especially at "We burned Hank" and "what is the gun for?" "the niggers." I almost choked! I couldn't believe that old guys said that!
There was so much gore that made me sick to my stomach, but it was great! When that girl was shaving! OMG! That was gross! So great! And the blonde guy who "lived"! Damn! Crazy! And that freaky Deputy!
I really liked this movie, but I still don't know what to think of it. My feelings are mixed. It's not a straight horror, but it's cross genre. It was definately worth seeing with the fun audience that I was with.

as i said before, it was great but i dont think it had as much gore as you say it did. definately not enough to make me sick to my stomach.
the way they resolved the nigger comment at the end was great.
the part with the blond guy getting shot at the end was directly out of Night of the Living Dead.
the kung foo biting kid was not needed.
the score and directing were great. it felt like it was set in the 70s... reminded me of Evil Dead and TCM.
i hope this movie resurrects horror like some say it will.

I just got done watching this and well I like my horror to be horror not a horror comedy- it was almost like watching a dark comedy, some scenes were great but most of those can be seeon on the previews and well not much else to say, it reminded me of Evil Dead with horror and comedy and cabin in the woods but it completely stole its ending from another film and the bloody disturbing scenes werent that bloody and disturbing...most off screen and sure it was funny but not scary and not that good...And just for those Wrong Turn lovers who were mad at Eli for bashing Wrong Turn dont worry, Wrong Turn was way better then this film! And Eli has potential if he would just be original and quit stealing form other films....later guys and gals, go see it, and try to enjoy but dont listen to the big hype...its a dark comedy, jsut keep telling yourself that....maybe youll like it better....and to Eli, quit busting on other horror films until you actually make a good one...:)

The Box
I don't know why everyone is getting all confused about this. It was ammo for the gun, he was trying to get it out to load the gun before Strong could get him. Why would it be a cure? Wouldn't they just have given it to the blonde dude instead of riddling him with bullets? Why would the hicks go to the cabin ready to shoot to kill instead of trying to administer the cure? It wouldn't make any sense.
The Bunny
There are three possibilities to this. Either it was a dude in a costume there to comfort the boy in the sick ward, an hallucination due to the rapid decay of Strong, OR it was death.
Pulp Fiction Briefcase:
They were delivering a package to Wallace. It was cocaine!!! Why does everyone make it out to be his soul? Or some kind of strange shit that doesn't make any sense? It was a shitload of cocaine.

I agree with you that it probablywasn't his soul in the briefcase in Pulp Fiction, I think it was just because the breifcase glowed that people thought it was something special inside. No one knows for sure what was in it, I don't recall it ever being specfically said that it was cocaine though. I was just mentioning it because Eli's comments about what's in the box is clearly a tounge in cheek refereance to The Pulp Fiction briefcase debate.

Matt A couple of things I gotta question you on here, but don't take it as me being a dick or anytthing, I'm just trying to set a couple of things straight for myself.
(1.) Why did one of the rednecks say to the fat redneck, "Get the kit" to the fat redneck, referring to the box. I'd have said, "get the ammo, fatfuck", not "get the kit" - I could definitely be reading too much into this, though
(2.) If there was a load of coke in Mr. Wallace's briefcase in Pulp Fiction why did it glow an eerie yellow-orange when Vincent opened it in the apartment. I'm not a cokehead or anything, but I've never seen any orange-glowing blow - the "soul" theory, which I happen to believe in, stems from the shot of Wallace, from behind, that shows a bandaid on the back of his neck/head.
(3.) I think that any of your "bunny" theories could be right on. Personally, I thought it was a hallucination, but it certainly could have been either of the two possibilities that you listed.

It was either the chili or the bath. The bath happened prior to her wounds though so you can probably count that out unless she had another one earlier.
The reason the coke had a glow to it was because of a mirror in the briefcase. The reflection of the mirror let off light. The mirror is placed in the case for asthetic reasons.
The kit might have contained an antidote but the way everyone reacted sort of makes it unclear. I'll buy the antidote but it should have been a bit more clear. There is an antidote for the flesh-eating virus so that might have been the reasoning behind it.

I know, I know, willing suspension of disbelief is the key, but there is no antidote to flesh-eating bacteria (there is no flesh-eating virus). The only way to stop the infection is through debridement (which means to basically cut the infected shit off). IMO, it was one of those "let's fuck with the audience" deals.

The weekend box office estimates are in and this little flick picked up $8.45 million - not too bad for a low budget horror romp. Am I the only one that feels that this movie could become a word o' mouth hit? I was talking about some of the weirder parts with a buddy of mine at work (who had also seen it) and others were saying how they just HAD to see it now. I've said it before and I'll say it again... this has been a GREAT couple of years for horror fans.

I saw it last night and I would have to say that I did not like it.
Some of the story I liked, but far too often I found it going elsewhere, away from the story and becoming plain weird. I enjoyed all the nods to other horror flicks, but that doesn't make a movie good.
I know the film tried to be different, and it was, but weird and that too me isn't a good thing.
It's a shame because I really wanted to like it, I really did.

There is a cure for the flesh eating bacteria, there's a cream that is used. I know it's not really an antidote but that's what I meant. In the movie, they might have made a fictional antidote.
I think it's time we dropped this though, we're going in circles, lol.

it was fun. Cliche ridden, some minor plot holes, I do believe I saw that it was supposed to take place in the 70's but there were far too many things invented after the 70's for that to be right. (so I think I'm wrong on this one)
If I hadn't read part of that interview with the director I would have liked it more...
whatever, it was a fun little popcorn movie with lots of nods to other films (quite a few david lynch moments in it)

its not as weird as they say it is. they prob. aren't big horror fans like us. its well worth the $ to see it now. we havent had a horror film like this since evil dead. plus the big screen and surround sound of the theater add alot. come on man, snap out of it, underworld looks much worse than this. the only "weird" part is something that comes off as funny instead of weird which is (dont worry man, what i'm about to say isnt a spoiler and wont ruin anthing about the movie; you have prob. already heard about this anyway) a kid named Dennis who bites and does kung foo.

Just a tidbit I picked up surrounding this movie and thought I would share it here (if no one has already beaten me to it)
Not sure of source, sorry. The email I got this from didn't list it.
Fever Makeup Was Intense
Jordan Ladd, who plays a college grad stricken with a flesh-eating
virus in the upcoming horror film Cabin Fever, told SCI FI Wire that
her gruesome makeup effects were hard for the crew to deal with at
times. "What was really uncomfortable was how people responded to me
on the set," she said in an interview while promoting the film. "The
crew wouldn't look at me. They looked at the floor when they talked
to me. It was strange, because all these guys that I'd go up and hug
every day and they'd look me right in the eye and call me sweetie,
nobody really talked to me. And I couldn't really say anything back
because I had these appliances on my mouth."
Ladd said that she was impressed overall with the artistry of the
makeup, which took three hours to apply and an hour and a half to
remove. "If I wanted to have a cigarette or drink some water or
something they'd have to remove them, and that was a 15-minute
ordeal," she said. "It's unbelievable. I think it's beautiful. And I
think they did an awesome job, and those holes really look like

Though Ladd is not a fan of horror films, she said she wanted to take
on the role to overcome her aversion to the genre. "Upon reading the
script I really found it so disgusting that I was laughing reading
it," she said. "Like, 'I can't believe how far this is going. It's
continuing. The carnage is continuing. I can't believe it.' And I was
laughing. I felt like if I'm going to be in a horror movie, I want to
be in the most disgusting horror movie there is." Cabin Fever opens

AWESOME movie! Just got back about an hour ago. I say this ties with "FvJ" as top horror flick of the summer (or of the year).
TONS of visual references to "Evil Dead" (the workshed, the swing on the porch, the close-up of the blond girl`s hand moving slowly). I loved the old Colonial Sanders guy at the general store, and the 'party' cop (what a weird f`en guy).
Some people have asked about the doctor in the bunny suit. Yes, it`s someone 'conforting' a sick child (how sad).
But did any of you notice the child in the bed is the long-haired kung-fu "pancakes" kid?

Really? I didn't notice the kid in the bed with the bunny man leaning over him was Dennis.
Can someone please explain "pancakes" to me? I know that no one really knows what he meant, or rather why he said it, but can someone make an attempt? If not accurate, then at least it will be amusing.
Fun movie. Great to watch with friends on the big screen.

I'm with you Arrow. I love movies that are "weird as shit". Cabin Fever was fantastic!!! Another "weird" masterpiece of film is definitely Donnie Darko. Weird = not mainstream, and that constitutes a must-see to me:D

It sure looked like him to me (the hair gives it away).
Next time you see the movie, pay close attention to that scene. Maybe I`m wrong.
As for "pancakes", I have no idea what that was supposed to mean. I guess the kid was just nuts.

Oh and about the controversial very last scene (involving Colonial Sanders and the 'niggers'), I for one LOVED it! Did it have anything to do with the rest of the movie? Nope! BUT IT SURE WAS DAMN FUNNY! When I saw the crew of gangsta thugs walking up to the country store, I was like "awww shit, now what"?
Well, suffice to say, what happened next was definetly NOT what I was expecting!

Weird is cool, but I think that they continually lost continuity by giving us the impression that we were watching two films at once. You're either going to be a dark comedy/horror or you're not in my opinion.
Halfway through the film, I was on the edge of my seat thinking this was definately one of the best horror films right before my very eyes.
Then we get slo-mo matrix style perfect kung fu kicks from a kid shouting pancakes.
I watched my enjoyment fizzle at that point. The movie was still decent, but at that point It just wasn't the same anymore... or for a metaphor it "jumped the shark". It was as if it was one of Romero or Tobe Hopper suddenly decided halfway through the script to conjoin with the fucking farrelly brothers.
Spoilers-----------------------------
The thought of an "antidote" being in the box is retarded. I'm sorry, but if someone just killed my hick friends, and now he's staring me down about to put a screwdriver in my skull, the last thing I'm going to do is scramble for an "antidote".
Medical Kit? Perhaps. First Aid better than no aid, but still... this is like in scary movie when Carmen Electra opts for a bananna instead of a gun.
Likely to me: A grenade or explosive that could be thrown or dropped, or some sort of needle to inject (think suicide kings).
Hyopthetical loophole: Why wasn't the deputy killed, as opposed to a "one whack" to the head? I know Rider Strong wasn't being a murderer, but I had took it that he had actually "snapped" by this point.

i didnt notice till i leftt the theatres that this movie was just like evil dead..so many resembelences abound...must be why i liked this movie...altho the only problem was if it was supposed to be a horror movie, there was alil bit too much humor..dont get me wrong this movie was funny as hell ("yes it is funny, u fucking slut" lmao) and had me laughing like a mad man...its just it didnt know what it wanted to be..and at the end everyone left the theatre laughing..and that felt wrong to me considering it was labeled a horror movie...it excels everywhere else tho with decvent acting, good and developed characters (sort of) and enough gores and jump outs that will surely make u shiver at least once...this movie makes u laugh..makes u scream..makes u thi\nk..in other words..it does everything it was supposed to do...best "recent" movie ive been since the ring

You mean the guy throwing up in the car with the "party cop"? That was Rider Strong's character. The "party cop" was told to dispose of Rider Strong, but he couldn't kill him himself, so he just dumped the body into the river.

Did anyone notice the "nod" to Dawn of the dead?
In the beginning when the one chick is asking for smokes and everyone says they don't have any, burt is quick to show Paul that he is hiding a pack of Marlboros. This reminded me of that funny scene where everyone is taking off from the police dock in the GON chopper and one of the guys evacuating on the boat keeps asking "You guys got any cigarettes?" After everyone says no, we see Roger and Fran lighting up as they leave. **Note, I think this is only seen in the Directors cut... **
** Spoiler **
Paul was un-doubtedly the dude in the back seat of the car. The deputy kept calling him "party-man", which was his nickname to only Paul.

Awesome movie! I'm so glad I got to see this! I'm weirded out by the Pancakes part and the very end scene! Poor Paul, I know he went all coocko, but I still liked his character...
Rumors that there's going to be a sequel is out! I'm going to see that as well.
The blood in it was really good and the shaving part had me worried, but it wasn't as bad as some said it was. Not to me at least. O.o. Still icky though!
I liked the part where Paul stumbled upon Winston and the drinking party! Hehe!

Just caught this movie last night (got a bootleg version of it off kazaa lite :D ) I've got a pic see jpg link below!!!
******** spoilers *********
The version I saw has the missing "put em in the basement scene," .... this after all the white-trash are killed/shot, Rider string puts one of the hicks in the basement, closes the door, and thanks the guy who got his head blown off....
On a 2nd inspection, shows the rabbit man plus Dennis, and a plate of pancakes.... seriously... taken from the tmd divX video myself http://buffy2003.bravehost.com/therabbit.jpg
>> does this mean the the rabbt man was operating on Dennis with pancakes? BUT If this a delusion.... how could it be a delusion if Rider never knew about the PANCAKES in the first place?????????
Also, who was the dead guy Rider Strong found in the tunnel at the end with the flashlight???? I couldn't make out who it was or am I blind or something>>!>!?

********** spoilers again ***********
When he found the stoner guy's body, why did he stop looking for the other guy who survived?
And like I said in the other post... how can he "dream," or hallucinate something that he had no knowledge of (ie, the pancakes kid with a bunny holding pancakes if he never heard the kid mention pancakes before?)(see http://buffy2003.bravehost.com/therabbit.jpg)

B]CABIN FEVER -- 7/10[/B]
(POSSIBLE SPOILERS)
Very cool movie. It's been a while since I've watched a really solid horror movie, and this one just made my day! There were so many things I loved about this film--the blood, the visuals, the characters (surprisingly developed)...but it ain't perfect, folks. But that's aight, because what it DOES do is provide for an hour and a half of laughs, scares, and lotsa blood!
One thing I must mention is the use of the red camera filter--that was just way to sweet!! I didn't really catch all the homages to other movies (well, maybe a few), so I'm gonna give this puppy another go and see if I can catch em this time. Oh..and as someone mentioned, the whole "pancakes" things had me cracking up..it was just way too weird..and when that kid started doing those Matrix-style flips..seemed.........hmm..well...very random. :D

I have to give credit to House of the dead... it let me know ahead of time that I should skip it, while Cabin Fever opted for the good ole "Bait-and-switch" technique.
Don't preach "Scarier than hell", and then give me an equivalent of a gory caddyshack. It even had it's own horror-esque version of the gopher... "The big mean dog that came from nowhere".

I thought it was the second-best horror flick I`ve seen in a long time (with #1 being "FvJ" of course).
Now I`ll admit it had more comedy elements than horror, but that really didn`t bother me because IMO the comedic stuff worked.

I don't hate it. I was just highly dissapointed. Now knowing what to expect, I'm going to check it out next month on DVD and hopefully find my own special appreciation for it.

If I had pulled this off the shelf at the video shop with no expectations whatsoever I might have enjoyed it. The problem was, Cabin Fever was marketed as a straight "scary" horror movie, when it was really a gory comedy, 80s-style. I would have been pissed off at even Dead Alive if I had been promised The Shining.

The DVD has a lot of really weird extras. It`s pretty cool.
Includes three episodes of some claymation show Eli Roth worked on called "The Rotton Fruit". Seems very much like something that would get played on 'Adult Swim'.
And a hilarious extra with the pancakes kid doing kung-fu stuff with a really funny punk-rock song about a gay bar....awesome stuff!
No deleted scenes though, unfortunatly.
Oh...and there is a 'Family Version', which is only a joke of course.
Too bad Roth stole that gag from the "Freddy Got Fingered" DVD, which did the same thing.

After watching the movie a third time, it`s really occured to me that this thing is FILLED with homages to older movies.
Let`s play Spot The Homage!
"The Evil Dead" - the cabin in the woods, the porch swing, the workshed, the blonde girl`s decayed hand moving in fast-motion, etc.
"Night Of the Living Dead" - When the Deputey says "I think there`s another one in the basement"
Also, the "I made it!" guy`s demise.
"The Crazies" - The police killing all the infected
"The Shining" - The bunny-suit guy
(*This could also be considered a homage to "Donnie Darko" I guess, though Eli Roth said in an interview that it was a homage to "The Shining")
"Deliverence" - The hicks going after the kids near the end
"Easy Rider" - The hicks chasing Burt (James DeBello) in the truck and shooting at him out the window
"Last House On the Left" - The use of the song "The Road Leads To Nowhere".
"Ghosthouse" - Cerina Vincent`s continual mentioning of chili towards the middle of the movie
(*This could possibly have been unintentional, but who knows, maybe Eli Roth`s seen "Ghosthouse"!)
