I have never seen Halloween but this DVD caught my attention, and I think it's the best way to view this movie...with a hi-def transfer and a nice sharp picture. + all the features, I'm buying this.

Halloween (10/10) is my all time favorite horror film and I'm pretty interested in this. Although this early review (http://dvdfile.com/software/review/dvd-video_7/halloween_25ae.htm) has me a little bit hesitant. Apparently the video transfer is pretty bad but as the reviewer alludes to, it might be the fact that he's a huge fan of the film. I'll probably end up buy it anyways just so I can have it on DVD.
Is this the extended TV cut? Or the theathrical version? And how much does it retails for?

Not sure about the retail but it is only the theatrical version. From the review:
Gone is the old 30-minute documentary from the previous DVD, as well as any of the famed 12 minutes of additional television footage diehard fans know and love. This television cut of the film - which was presented in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen and not censored like on TV broadcasts - has been dropped here completely. None of this footage is included (except for glimpses in the documentary), not even as a supplement. Why not just do a seamless branching version on the first disc? (The technology exists, so why not use it?) So, if you want to check out the television version, you're going to have to find the old Anchor Bay two-disc limited edition or the still-available single disc Extended Television Edition.

However, this is apparently one of those holographics. Mine does not have the holograph, but the special features are exactly the same. I can't find my exact version on the internet. Mine is just the mask of Michael Myers.
Special features include:
Original Theatrical Trailers
Television Spots
Radio Spots
Talent Bios
Still and Poster Gallery
Behind-the-Scenes Still Gallery
Halloween Unmasked 2000

I'm probably going to get this just so that I'll have Halloween on DVD, plus I love it when John Carpenter does a commentary track and if this one is like the ones for The Thing and The Fog, then that worth getting it on DVD.

Eh, don't know for sure. The audio commentary and new 87 minute documentary are things I'd love to see sooner or later. No updating for me though.
Is this limited? If not, I'll get it a month later. If so, I will be the first in line.

They don't look all that bad. #'s 1,2 and 4 piss me off as those look horribly different but the others I wouldn't have picked up on at all watching the DVD.

I'l probably pick it up since I havent bought Halloween yet on DVD.
I'm not so sure about those screen shots, though, it seems to me like they got rid of Carpenter's signature blue color...

I agree with you, I mean the transfer
looks beautiful, but I like how the original has that blue filter, and now
it looks all white.....grumble grumble.
But I will still be buying this masterpiece of cinematic horror at it's best.
And besides, I have the version with the blue filter showing anyway, so it's not a complete loss.
And as someone else mentioned, it would have been nice had they either included the tv version, or have it branched. But again, I guess it doesn't matter that much to me, I mean, after all, when I was collecting these movies on VHS, I had several copies of each halloween movie.
Ciao.

I've been waiting to get this since I first heard about it a couple of months ago and now I'm not sure if I wan to or not.The pics don't look half as bad as they've been discribed, plus I really want to get Halloween on DVD and I've seen it advertised in today's sales ads at a lower price than I thought was going to be.

HALLOWEEN is one of my all-time favorites, and I'm surprised I've yet to own a copy on DVD. This new edition looks like the perfect addition to my collection.

Put it this way: If you want the total package, get the Limited Edition (if you can, it's long out of print) and this new 25th An. If you don't get the LE, you can still pick up the discs that were in it separately. Personally, I'd choose the LE for the picture quality (although the new 25th does have a brighter image, although it does ruin some suspense) and get the 25th for the extras. Hell, I'm getting all 3 discs. As Dave from Horrordvds.com (http://www.horrordvds.com) put it, 'Unfortunately, this is not the definitive Halloween DVD. It's very close, but ultimately falls short [in the picture quality].' Check out his review of the disc here (http://www.horrordvds.com/reviews/a-m/halloween-25/).
Note to Anchor Bay: The cover for this new DVD sucks. Who the hell wants a big '25' in orange letters on their shelf?

I already got my copy. The lighting didn't look as bad as I'd thought would be and the it sound great too. I loved wtaching the new documentary, one question though as much as I loved listening to the commentary it sounded as if they recorded Carpenter,Hill and Curtis seperatly and then edited them together, I say this becuase thier is alot of things that repeated during the begining of the track.

Anyone else got it yet?
Got if from my local Target for $15.99! I thought it will be more expensive than that. I loved it! Thought the transfer was more crisp and clear than the other DVD's. But the 87-min doucmentary could've been shorter, or split into two parts.

i just got it today at target and i love it. the two new features(documentary and on location) are great. i haven't seen the film on the dvd yet, and i can't wait to hear the commentary. i'm keeping my le of hallowen, since apparently the transfer is better and iut has a different documentary.
i love my my halloween.
btw, it was sold out at best buy, circuit city, and costco didn't have it. target only had about 4 copies too.$15.99 babbee!

I picked it up last night. I used to own the LE but traded it a long time ago. I buy dvds for the film, not for the extras. For me, this 2-disc set is fantastic.

Because of the pictures posted in this thread, I actually compared my original Halloween DVD with the new 25th Anniv. Edition DVD, and to be honest, the difference to me anyway, is so minimal, I barely noticed.
Those pictures are waaaaaaaaaaaaay more drastic than what I saw on the DVD's. If I hadn't compared, I wouldn't have even noticed the difference.
I do have a problem with the DVD commentary on the 25th Anniv. Edition though... I HATE commentaries where they record them all seperately and then splice them together. They did this with The Hours as well, and it bugged the shit out of me the whole time. One of the reasons I like commentary tracks so much is because of the interaction between the people taking part in the commentaries. It was John Carpenter talking, then Debra, then Jamie, then reveresed, then mixed up a little... it was annoying. I want to hear cross thoughts, I want to hear the interaction...
ah well... I still have the new documentary to look foward to! Didn't get to that yet!
Saruman

I also didn't enjoy the commentary. Carpenter is usually hilarious when commentating with another. Examples are of him and Kurt Russell.
