Alrighty folks, imagine it's your final for your...eh..."montage making" class. You are to put together what you believe are the 20 most powerful scenes in film history. The 20 scenes that affected you most as a human being, as a moviegoer, as a whatever.

Which 20 scenes would you include? What theme would it have, if any? Classic powerful scenes, unusual powerful scenes...or just...bloody POWERFUL scenes?

I think this belongs in Best/Worst, it is, in essence, a list question.

I'll be back later with my choices.

In no order:

-Jake La Motta screaming and punching the wall in his prison cell
in Raging Bull.
-Kane trashing the room in Citizen Kane.
-The Star Child in 2001: A Space Odyssey.
-The "kiss" scene in The Godfather Part II (although you'd have to know a little about what's going on for it to be powerful)
-The assassination scene in Apocalypse Now
-Oskar Schindler claiming that he didn't do enough in Schindler's List.
-The riot in Do the Right Thing.
-The last Russian roulette scene in The Deer Hunter.
-Andy in the rain in The Shawshank Redemption.
-Trying not to give anything away for those who haven't seen it, the "choking" scene in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.
-The end of City Lights.
-"I am not an animal!" in The Elephant Man
-Again trying not to give much away, the scene in Dead Man Walking where...well, if you've seen it, you know which one I'm talking about.
-As corny as it sounds, the "I'll be right here" scene in E.T.
-In Taxi Driver, from the moment where Travis says "Suck on this" to the moment where he holds his hand against his hand in the shape of a gun.
-The end of Rashomon. Maybe this one is one that not many people thought was that "powerful," I don't know, but it affected me for some reason.
-The end of On the Waterfront.
-The climax of Unforgiven. Another one that maybe a lot of people didn't find "powerful," but I thought it was.
-The cat in the doorway scene in The Third Man. Not powerful as in emotionally powerful, but powerful as in the "unforgettable" kind of powerful.
-The slow-motion bit of Alex walking with his droogs down by the river/lake and his voice-over and the music and...well, I just think it's an incredibly powerful scene for some reason, in A Clockwork Orange.

Okay, this is purely based on my personal opinion...:)

*"You talkin' to me?", Travis gets lairy with his half-naked reflection in TAXI DRIVER
*"You've gotta laugh aint ya' sweetheart? Else you'd cry...", Cynthia Purley's words of wisdom in SECRETS & LIES.
*Ben croons along to 'In Dreams', BLUE VELVET
*Graf Orlok's shadow seeps around the corner in NOSFERATU
*"Where's your fucking tool?", Carlin fights to be top-dog in SCUM.
*McMurphy plays commentator to the ball game in ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST.
*Laura and John shag like rabbits in DON'T LOOK NOW.
*James discovers the housing development and the lush fields in RATCATCHER.
*Harry Lime is chased like a 'doirty rat' through the sewers in THE THIRD MAN.
*"The path of the righteous man...", Jules Winnfield lets rip with 'Ezekiel 25:17' in PULP FICTION.
*"Always look on the bright side of life...", LIFE OF BRIAN.
*Kes soars high above North Yorkshire in KES.
*Scottie's dream sequence and jolt from his slumber in VERTIGO.
*"Jesus Christ NO...", Sergeant Howie meets THE WICKER MAN.

I shall edit later, I'm hard-pushed to decide at the moment...:)
