You always hear about these actors suing the scandal rags because of false reporting (Nicole Kidman, Tom Cruise, Catherine Zeta etc), many of which claim the libel results in a loss of reputation and damage to their careers. Now while I think these victims are in the legal right to sue for libel/slader...I have to question some of the justifications used in these suits.

How many actors reputations have actually been damaged by false reporting?

Personally most of these stories are sent in by the celebs publicists on purpose

ever notice these tabloid reports only show up about celebs when they have an upcoming role/movie/show./cause going on, yet in between when they get away from the spotlight there are no stories yet they are 100% living the same lifestyles?

I read something a long time ago about rumours and stories and looking at my own life and all the hairy situations I have been in I believe it 100% being...

-in all the stories/rumours you hear half the story has truth in it and the other half has bullshit in it.

you just have to learn to read between the lines and look for what is true and false and what is the motivation of all parties involved9including the accused) about why/how the rumour got started

PS going back to my publicist comments isnt there an old adage that says "Any publicity good or bad is good publicity"

espec to keep there names out there and promote whatever they are doing at the moment.

Years ago celebrities feared people like Hedda Hopper/Louella Parsons becuase anything you did could mean doom to your career. The media will always be hovering over a celebrity's life. It just the media needs to back off when celebrities want time to themselves from the spotlight.
As for reporting the truth about their lives? The media is leaning towards fact based truth nowdays. But some often stray away from the actual truth.
Their is limitations IMO but does it hurt a celeb? Well it depends. Sexual lifestyle? If they want it kept private then its their business. Unless they choose to reveal that to the public. Was a crime comitted? Then thats a different story.
Information on that will information will be leaked to the public.
