View Full Version : Grind

Plot(from the official site): While the rest of his high school graduating class is heading to the same old grind of college, skateboarder Eric Rivers (MIKE VOGEL) and his best friends, Dustin (ADAM BRODY), a goal-oriented workaholic, and misfit slacker Matt (VINCE VIELUF) have one last summer roadtrip together to follow their dream of getting noticed by the professional skateboarding world - and getting paid to skate.

When skating legend Jimmy Wilson's (JASON LONDON) skate demo tour hits town, the boys figure that as soon as he sees their fierce tricks, he'll sign them up for his renowned skate team immediately, right?

Unfortunately, the guys are intercepted by Jimmy's road manager (DAVE FOLEY) and they can't get their foot in the door, much less their boards. But they do get some free advice: keep skating, stay true to yourself, and stay in the game - if you're good, you'll get noticed.

I think this film looks horrid. Completely horrible. It's TV spots are on all the time and was just made for the whole skateboarding type craze going on.

Sorry, but this is WAY too early. We have a 7 day rule here. I s'pose who opened this because the Uptown Girls thread was opened? Rule-breaking begats rule-breaking. :(

::SLIGHTLY OVER-THE-TOP PART DELETED:: ;)

I'm terribly sorry. I thought the rule was 14 days. I didn't know it was changed.

It's cool. :) And I'm sorry if I sounded harsh, but I am dying to open the thread for Open Range, and, if I make it in time, Fvs.J. And if a newbie sees these open, he'll think it's OK to go ahead and post one.

P.S. This movie looks awful. Complete idiocy.

I didn't find it harsh at all(except for that last comment about the whole sucking of the opening of Freddy vs Jason or Open Range). I'm curious now as to if you want to open the thread because you want to see Freddy vs Jason or to bash the living hell out of it.

Want to see it, since I've loved Freddy ever since I was 5.

Well that's good then. And Freddy is a very good horror enemy guy but he has a great chance of losing.

I agree, this movie looks stupid. I guess some ofd those skater wannabees I knew at school will have something to look forward to this summer...

Yep this looks like only skateboarders will like it. And even they would probably be better off just watching a skateboard video. This just looks really lame. Maybe I'll see it but even though I try and watch everything that comes out there is always atleast one movie a month (often a couple more) that I end up missing. This looks like a pretty clear candidate for my miss list.

This movie looks like the "Out Cold" for the skateboarding group. I'll probably be seeing "Grind" because some of the guys from Jackass and CKY are in this one and they're funny in my opinion.

Grind... Oh geeze... This looks like a real stinker... I saw an ad for it on tv... I have still not regained the use of my brain...

Real Horrible Quotes from the movie (Yes, these quotes are in the actual movie):

First guy: "Yo dude... Wanna Joint???"

Second Guy: "Yo Bro... Already got a joint... Boo ya!!!"

Third guy: "Groovy woovy!!! Smells like some funky doodie"

First guy: "Yo bro... I have to get my groove on with that fine bitchin las over there"

Second Guy: "Boo ya. boo ya"

Third Guy: "Catch you later alligators... Have to go practice on the ramp with yo stick"

OMG, what a disastor... The dialouge is absolutely atrocious...

The worst part is when that white kid(who's acting black and such)goes "This is a professional skateboarding event dog. Bounce!

Or how about the Releasing of the Twins Foundation?

This movie looks horrible. Another Out Cold, for another "extreme" sports generation.

A movie starring just a bunch of sad sorry wiggers? I'll pass.

Just another attempt to exploit skateboarding, aimed at the MTV-drones who think they're "skaters" but, in reality, barely touch the board they had their parents buy them.

...Think it should be pretty obvious that I'm very against this movie...

Nope. I think this looks like trash, as do all of my compadres who skate. It looks to be a terrible misrepresentation of the skate scene/community, and comes off as just plain cheesy. Sure it has Margera and co. in it, but like others have said, I'd rather watch them in CKY or Haggard rather then this crap.

The skating's probably going to suck ass too, because they'll be going for what "lools cool" rather than the really tough technical tricks that take real skill. I hope this film bombs.

I'm sure it will since it's up against Uptown Girls, Freddy Vs. Jason and Open Range. Not to mention I would imagine that American Wedding, Spy Kids 3-D, SWAT, Freaky Friday and Pirates of the Caribbean should continue to do well. And Finding Nemo is still doing pretty good too. I imagine that, like Out Cold and Extreme Ops, this should last maybe two weeks, tops.

Unfortunately, you should believe it. It seems to be attracting the Biker Boyz/Out Cold crowd. All three of them.

Luckily, judging from those two films' box office performances, that audience isn't sizable.

Very well said if you want to see a awesome film watch Haggard
that has some skateboarding but it isn't the point (Haggard
is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen also)

any movie based around skateboarding will pretty much suck ass.

Can't say I agree with you there. Try watching the excellent documentary Dogtown and Z-Boys. I didn't think it sucked ass, and it was based around skateboarding.

This movie looks like utter crap. It looks like a clone of Out Cold, and at least that had AJ Cook (if i remember rite).

Dogtown and Z-Boys is an awesome movie and it is a great insight into the birth of the skating culture. Some other good Skating movies are stuff from the Bones Brigade especiallyThe Search for Animal Chin.

As far as Grind looks horrible, though I thought Out Cold would be awful but it was one of my guilty pleasures, I veiw it more as a drinking movie than a snowboarding movie, and who doesn't love a good drinking movie.

My friends wille see it, and love it. I won't see it, and I'll boycott it to no end.

Sorry, I don't feel like shitting myself in rage over how horrid and terrible and fucking trashy this film looks.

This film looks so terrible that it will challenge all the other bad movies this year for worst movie of the year. I doubt this movie makes much money because it's getting a rather small release, has a poor marketing campaign, and Warner Brothers seems to be doing all they can to bury the film. It MIGHT make 5 million this weekend.

It looks kind of stupid, yet it also looks like it at least wouldn't be too boring. I will most likely check it out on video.

I think this quote is really funny, well, amusing at least:

"Think Blue Crush without water — or awesome surfing footage, likable characters with real personalities, beautiful girls in bikinis or anything else worth watching."

From the trailers the amount of REAL personalities seem slim to none. I mean, what is everyone a wigger in the world?

If you've seen Kazaam!, TCSM 4, BE, or B&R, you'd see why getting your steakstick crushed by a 160-pound dolt on a skateboard is preferable to viewing a movie that bad.

This movie is utter shite and should not have been released.

I am amongst the target audience intended for this movie, and after watching F vs. J, I decided to sneak into the 'Grind' auditorium to see what it was all about. First off let me say that this movie needs to be looked at as entertainment and not as Oscar material. If you're looking for some laughs and are between the ages of 16-25, you should give this movie a shot. On the other hand, if you're old and your 14 year old teenie-bopper wants to see it because of the 'hot sk8er bois', promptly hand him/her seven dollars and drive them to the theatre. After watching the trailer I was thinking exactly what you all were, but this time the trailer really doesn't lay it all out. Call me crazy, but I enjoyed it for what it is - entertainment. I'd give it a 7/10.

I unfortunately saw this movie this afternoon, as me and my friend had nothing better to do. It is absolute trash. Complete horse shit. Utter garbage. I would rather light myself on fire than have to sit through this movie again. At least Out Cold had some laughs. This? This was just pathetic.

I saw this Friday night because Freddy vs. Jason was sold out everywhere I went. It wasnt great, but it wasnt pure crap. I laughed a lot, and I was quiet a lot. Good soundtrack though, I will say that.

"Sweet Lou cleans no mans poo." The only line I remember from the movie, because I laughed hardest at that.

I couldnt get into american wedding so my friends made me sit through this. It was pretty bad, the skating scenes are nothing special, watch ESPN. The acting is bareable (sp?) and I felt like Adam Brody (i like this guy as an actor) and Vince Veiluf had the most chemistry. Amy Morrison is hot as ever. This movie felt like it went on forever. Awesome soundtrack though, except for Boom by P.O.D. I'd give this a 3.5/10.

I gave it the ranodm rating of 3.5 because although i didnt hate it (3/10) i disliked it more than a little (4/10)
