(19) (8) MALIBU'S MOST WANTED
(20) (15) SINBAD: LEGEND OF THE SEVEN SEAS

Despite falling a further 42% in takings, TERMINATOR 3 held on top for a third week. It's hatrick at the top has earned the James Cameron-less action flick $14,985,243. Missing out to repeat its US Box Office success of claiming the #1 spot was the mind bending thriller IDENTITY which debuted at #2 with $1,308,261. Cameron, Drew and Lucy Liu continue to hold strong in the Top 3 after 5 weeks with a combined total of $17,718,081. Making a surprise high debut was Gwyneth Paltrow's high flying comedy VIEW FROM THE TOP which slipped into the Top 5 at #4 with $512,363. Aussie crime comedy BAD EGGS fell 23% and 2 spots with $497,200, taking its two week total to $1,391,030. Continuing to go strong, surprisingly, after 7 weeks is BRUCE ALMIGHTY which holds steady in the Top 10 with $19,872,338 to its name. The appauling looking Aussie made comedy DANNY DECKCHAIR took in $326,855 at #7. Last week it had a less than stellar Advance Screening, which failed to make the Top 20, and has managed $387,251 all together. Two of the more well received films in the charts, CONFESSIONS OF A DANGEROUS MIND and CONFIDENCE, fell in their second week and have accumulated little totals. The George Clooney drama fell 35% with a combined two week total of $680,518 ahead of the Ed Burns/Rachel Weisz thriller which fell 48%, but has managed slightly better after 2 weeks with $721,482. Making a much higher debut than I expected, the poorly received action flick EXTREME OPS debuted at #11 with $139,388. The lowest debut of the week belonged to creepy horror outing WRONG TURN. It's 42 screen count and lack of publicity played against the Eliza Dushku gore flick which slaughtered $92,053. Ang Lee's HULK continues to fall, and looks to have run out of his anger with the big budget blockbuster falling 58% and 8 spots with $69,008. After 6 weeks it has gathered $9,543,361. I'm surprised it hasn't made $10,000,000, and has been slipping as much, but that's the way it goes. On the topic of slipping, Laurence Fishburne's BIKER BOYZ fell 64% with a two week total of $250,377, whilst Jamie Kennedy's wiggerisms cost him a second week decline of 70% and 11 positions. The obviously hated comedy has managed $277,587. Rounding out the charts this week is Dreamworks SINBAD which fell a further 47%, but has managed a nice little sum of $4,254,865 after 5 weeks.

THIS WEEK (August 7th): 2003 has definitely been year of the sequel and another one makes the cinematic rounds this week in the form of comedy outing AMERICAN PIE: THE WEDDING. Jim and the gang open opposite Kurt Russell and Scott Speedman doing the cop routine in DARK BLUE.

It's definitely time for a new number 1 this week, and it's pretty obvious that the Pie gang will be the victors. Sequels are always worthy players on the charts, and these films have certainly become crowd faves, so I expect the horny gang to cum out on top.

Although I haven't heard one good word about View From the Top I dunno why I'm glad it's doing "okay" somewhere. I love Gwyneth Paltrow (I mean I luuuuuuuve her :D) and after winning that Oscar I thought should be a huge star and all. She didn't. Anywasy, this is off-topic I guess. :)

Good to see T3 on top for three weeks. And (don't shoot me) I'm happy that Extreme Ops is making more than expected (Am I in mood for crappy movies? :P)... I mean there are worse films than it making hundreds of millions out there (Daddy Day Care.. Anyone?)

Shame about Identity not making it to the top spot. Great film. But $1.3M opening week isnn't anything to laugh at. Can't wait to see how bad Dark Blue will go next week. I didn't like that film AT ALL.

Question for you FilmBuff, please: Do you have any idea when Tomb Raider 2 will be opening in Australia? Thanx in advance :)

I know I was surprised that Extreme Ops beat out Wrong Turn, but Extreme Ops had a larger screen count and I guess thrre was a certain audience who found it appealing, don't know how long I expect it to last though...

Thanks Jedi, yeah no problem Tomb Raider 2 opens on September 18th over here. It opens opposite with Bad Boys 2 and one week after Legally Blonde 2 and Pirates Of The Carribean, so I don't know how it's gonna go with all the competition. Of course those movie dates are subject to change, but thoses release dates look pretty certain.

I must admit it! It's a DOOMED film. It's said to be opening around here in early October. Dunno what competition it will face but I hope it wouldn't be with the likes of BBII or the mighty POTC.

True, it isn't likely to go really well opening amongst all those films, it's unlikely to repeat its Number 1 success like it had over here with the first film, but it'll probably make Top 5, we've got a while to go so we'll see how things play out.

***RELEASE UPDATE***

The third Friday movie, FRIDAY AFTER NEXT opens alongside DARK BLUE and AMERICAN PIE: THE WEDDING. Seeing as how it was pretty much just dumped in cinemas, and I didn't see one trailer or TV spot for it, I don't know well it's going to go, next week will reveal the answer.

It depends, I guess, on how well the first two ones did on the box-office. I guess they were most popular in the US rather in anywhere else.
