I think this movie is underrated, I never hear too many people talk about it much. My brother owns it on dvd too, so I have access to it. I thought it was a really original idea and it was done well on the screen. I should watch it again sometime.

Yeah this is one underrated gem. This is one of the most original films in years. It is a bit confusing and weird but it's definately great.

I wouldn't say this movie is 'underrated', really.
It seems to be a movie that large numbers of college students and friends in my high school deem a 'misunderstood classic', or something that they claim is underrated.
I feel like so many people like this movie more than when it came out, and seemed to discover it on video. It's got a pretty solid following, so no I don't think it's underrated.
If anything, it's OVERrated. I think it was a mediocre movie that didn't have such deep meanings that it deserves four stars (Ebert). But that's just my opinion.
It wasn't bad, but I think it gets more praise than it deserves.
6.5/10

i think this is very underappreciated, its got great acting, excellent CGI and sets, a great story, its better than the matrix
an excellent film not that many have seen

I also think that it isn`t underrated. People talk about it here quite often and many list it as their favourite movie. I too loved it.

I would say Dark City is over-rated, if anything.

Alex Proyas has an amazing gift for creating atmosphere and setting within his films. He topped himself with Dark City, creating a more immersive environment then his own modern masterpiece, The Crow.
I'm not sure that the film is underrated, just not as well known as it should be. More attention needs to be brought to the film.

No less than Roger Ebert named the movie 'Best movie of the year.' He also uses the movie to pick apart & justify lower reviews for similar, but better, films like 'The Matrix.'
Let's face it: the idea for the movie derives from 'Alice in Wonderland,' and is a tale frequently told by Hollywood. (In the later years of its run, every single episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation featured a 'holodeck' sequence which conveyed the same ideas as Dark City).
The movie gains some points for it's Dark feel and potboiler style, but BIG TIME loses points for the lame & underwhelming special effects associated with the film's climax.
Not overrated, not underrated, Dark City is a solid 6.5/10

bottom line...it's a very well crafted scifi film with touches of suspense!
