Jersey Girl director Kevin Smith is convinced the appalling reviews for Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck's new film Gigli won't affect box office sales for his upcoming venture. Real life couple and Jersey Girl stars Ben and Jen have watched as reviewer after reviewer have slammed Gigli for bad performances and poor plot - but Smith does not think the same can be said of his production. Speaking on his View Askew website, Smith says, "As far as all this worrying about what this weekend's Gigli reception means for Jersey Girl - don't waste your energy. We're gonna be fine. Apples and oranges. S***, apples and blowjobs, really. No further prognostication necessary. I know it's a hot topic this weekend for obvious reasons, but lest we have to endure all this nail-biting speculation for the next eight months, let's curb it now. Whatever's gonna happen's gonna happen. If it's any consolation, I'm not sweating it." Smith says the reaction of test audiences to Jersey Girl has more than cemented his faith in the film. He explains, "I've seen Jersey Girl with audiences. I know all the stuff regarding the release plans for the flick that we don't talk about here. And while I'm sorry that Gigli didn't do better this weekend, its critical reaction and box office take won't have the slightest effect on Jersey Girl. Take my word for it."

Gotta love Kevin Smith, I have high hopes for Jersey Girl...

I'm confident that Smith will get better performances out of them than Martin Brest. It's really a question of the screenplay, and Smith is a far better writer than...whoever wrote Gigli.

And to think, that's a quote. He didn't sit down and write something like that, he just thinks it. Damn funny guy, I can't wait to see Jersey Girl, even if it is staring Bennifer.

Kevin Smith himself isn't worried. He said, in his own words, the two movies are like "apples and blowjobs". The man's such a genius. :)

LOL, yeah he can't, but the thing is that now that GIGLI flocked, nobody is intrested in watching those 2 together again.

He'll probably need a miracle, since Jersey Girl now has that stigma of being "that other Bennifer movie." Which is why I'm sure they'll focus more on the Ben/daughter relationship, and Ben/Liv Tyler romance than the Ben/Lopez angle in the marketing and trailers for it

even if the movie dosen't do really well it will do better then gigilly or whatever the hell that lump of shit is because kevin smith i alot funnier has a much much larger fanbase(myself included). most people will probubly be going just because its a kevin smith movie
i just hope jay and silent bob get a good chunk of screen time, not just one little scene like in chasing amy.

Jay and Silent Bob won't be in this movie. Heck, Jason Mewes isn't in the cast list on upcomingmovies.com or in the IMDB so it doesn't even look like he's even in it.
