This is probably one of the best foreign films I've seen this year, with the exception of Irreversible. Everything about it was absolutely stunning, especially the cinematography and general asthetics. Though what really got me were the two central performances by Park-don Jin and Ha-kyun Shin. The former brooding with intensity as , 'Mr Vengence.' Whilst the other managing to convince that he is deaf and mute, all his acting is pure body language and subtle facial movements.
The violence in this film has come under heavy criticism, but not once did I personally feel it was obligatory. Everything had a purpose.
Although it didn't have the most original storyline, with a straight forward, kidnap/revenge structure. The way it was conceived was sublime, so if you have a strong interest in oriental cinema then this is a film I strongly suggest.
